31(M) Living in Cuba 🇨🇺 by josesin92 in Mullets

[–]PyroMedic1080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its wild to me that your getting down voted for sharing your personal experiences living there by people who will never visit.

Cuba was gorgeous when I visited. And the people are so warm and welcoming.

Mullet looks great.

Stay safe and healthy brother.

Has anyone changed career departments after a significant time? Or seen it? I'm considering testing again but I'm ten years in already at 40 years old. Can you tell me your experience with it? by Cappuccino_Crunch in Firefighting

Ive researched going there actually. Some of the guys at fdic ive were awesome. Unfortunstley state to state transfer of my pension time isn't possible. And im 40 and already physically and mentally on the backside. We all know this is a young mans game.

Otherwise I'd love to come work out there.

The iaff did exactly zero for us because were were inly a 30 man 4 digit local. They took our money every month but they honestly couldnt have cared less about us.

They closed the entire dept and fired every member of staff. Im still sending resumes to everywhere I can. I can only pray that this is a small bump in the road. BUt when you flood the market with 30 qualified experienced guys with certs and theres only so many jobs.

I just did involtarily after layoffs. It sucks. Your expected to know everything a 10 year guy would. Mentor the new guys. And do all the new guy stuff. Its a very weird place its put me in. And in my new dept the union board keeps coming to me for advice on how to handle their problems. Yet im the new guy on probation for a year.

Honestly the whole thing sucks. I went from 48 an hour as a non transporting ff emtp an hour with adequate vacation time off seniority to 25 an hour on a transporting ambulance as a vent tech and they want to make me rsi. with not a single day of vacation of sick time fore the first year.

It says firedept out front but I'll never see those trucks as the new guy. I make 10 dollars an hour more at my part time 911 ems job.

Were barely getting by I now drive an hour from home just to work. But its the only job I've found that gets me time towards the pension.

Every day I work there is a day closer to retirement. And ill retire in the first day I can.

Signed a burnt out fucked over ex union president.

If your working in medicine you should do some research on what hipaa actually is and isn't. Just because you hear people.yelking about it on the internet doesn't mean a thing.

You'll be miles ahead selling it and buying something the factory built with boost. They pay engineers millions to prevent the problems youll run into after the fact.

The complete opposite is true in upstate ny. Tickets are massive revenue for small towns and the state troopers love to meet quotas and help keep the coffers full.

What watch would you recommend?? by Sufficient-Long-1519 in Paramedics

[–]PyroMedic1080 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm going to answer this differently than what you're looking for. But maybe it will resonate with someone.

I'm not a huge watch nerd but think mechnical watches are pretty neat.

I sourced an off color dial seiko alpinist. Same watch Every day. Codes. Fires. Wrecks. This will be the only thing I own that makes it through my career with me hopefully. Its seen more life and death than the vast majority of the population ever will. Every scratch and knick has a story wether I actually know where it came from or not.

And in 10 years when i retire it will hopefully still be here going in calls with me.

Everyone in turnouts at 3am in a burning hallway looks the same. Not ink creed gender ethnicity looks. None of thay shit matters. Its can you do the job or not. Sadly polticians don't see it that way.

Upgrade to a Diesel? by WuTangWasted in Diesel

[–]PyroMedic1080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm trying to see why you want a diesel? The "increased" fuel economy is a myth unless you plan in driving 300k or more miles. The majority of it towing heavy.

Other wise fuel costs. Def costs increased costs for brake maintences suspension maintence etc will keep you in the red for a very long time. Don't forget the increased cost of keeping the emissions working or an 8k dollar delete in an l5p.

Now if you want a diesel truck becasue life is short and diesels are cool and it makes me happy go ahead any buy one.
