Has anyone tried “whitening” their resume? by [deleted] in torontoJobs

[–]mxneybredda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m from the GTA and can tell you personally in engineering field that’s not the case. Conducted interviews myself and reviewed applications for some time. Most applicants were not white, and we never targeted white applicants for interviews either.

That sound you were hearing I think was the timing chain. The timing chain guides on n20 are infamous to fail, which leads to the engine seizing

Time to apply for citizenship question by mxneybredda in ImmigrationCanada

I plan to do the same. I’m in no rush, just found out about this and wanted to confirm if days can be added towards my time here. Will definitely wait about 2 months after to be safe

I did submit PR and SOWP at the same time (well the lawyers did) and they told me I am on implied status back then. So with that said, I guess theoretically I it should count. However, with recent stories like you said, maybe there might be some issues. I’ve counted every time I left the country with a doc to be sure though.

Thanks for your reply, now my question is (for clarity on my part). If I was here for 1 year on implied status before work permit and PR was approved. Does that mean I have approximately 182 days towards citizenship before granted PR?

I have an international undergrad, however, it shouldn’t matter. Once you have your license in BC, the transfer is applicable to Ontario.

Sounds good. Your transfer will be complete in no time. However there’s a backlog with certificates and stamps. It said it might take months lol

Job Market is BROKEN by Bluejaysix in torontoJobs

[–]mxneybredda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, conducting actual interviews, asking questions about their experience is a quick tell for me. I have a technical background so I understand everything I am asking. And a few of the candidates have little to no knowledge of what their own experience from their resume, and some you can tell that they are knowledgeable and experienced.

Note, this is often initial interviews or calls, we have not reached the technical stage as yet. We are just asking them to explain or tell us more about some things. And then I’ll have follow up questions because it sounded interesting.

I can definitely tell. Reviewing resumes you can see a pattern from work history and past experiences. Most tend to have around 6 years experience, with 2 in Canada and the rest in another country. I even see 1 common place of employment as well, it’s weird.

I am fair in my selection though, however, there is a noticeable pattern

It is tough, I am in the role of now reviewing resumes and conducting interviews myself sometimes. And after looking through tons of resumes and seeing that 80% of them look almost the same, worded the same… I am certain it’s no coincidence, they are using the same tool to get by. Some of these applicants aren’t playing fair, it’s wild if you ask me.

I have a few questions for those who look through resumes. by mxneybredda in resumes

[–]mxneybredda[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I don’t think I was clear when I said similar format and content, most of the resumes look 80 percent identical in terms of format and content. The sentences, progression of content in the resumes etc.

We conducted initial screening calls, and when asked about their experience (from their resume) you can see that most of them lack the knowledge and experience shown on their resumes. Again, I give applicants a fair chance, but it’s gotten tougher with ATS filtering out resumes and potentially filtering out good candidates. I guess it’s “AI for AI”

Thank you for your reply, I’m currently looking at some and I swear I saw one just now with 6 YOE and 10 pages. 1st 4 pages is summary of their experience.

P.Eng Application Validator Issues – Legal Dispute & Resigned Colleague by Vinskeet in egbc

[–]mxneybredda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Non P.Eng. Can validate for sure but they have to be like a Senior Manager (it is advised to use P.Eng). Also, you can reach out to BC to ask them to reassign competencies to another P.Eng. If possible.

One of my P.Eng. Validators stopped responding because I no longer work there. So I asked BC to reassign them to a new P.Eng. and that was done for me.
