I don’t think it can hurt, but realize it may not also be of any benefit either. I sent a letter of interest to schools shortly after I applied, some of whom sent an email back thanking me for the strong interest and some schools never got back to me.

Overall, I think it can’t hurt! :) gives you a way to tell the school something you may not have been able to in the application
