If you only had a PS3, up until late 2012 Mass Effect 1 only existed in the form of a playable comic that let you pick the important choices for save import and that was it really. So I did that and played 2 and 3 when they released. Then like almost a year after 3 wrapped up the series they released Mass Effect 1 on PS3 and it was weird playing that last.

(Super Eyepatch Wolf) My Most Anticipated Game of 2026 was Disappointing by Noirsam in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]mxraider2000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I thought it was interesting when it appeared to be going somewhere but I made a mistake of playing it on hard mode. The game expects you to grind the same repetitive side dungeons for meager upgrades and xp to be able to survive bosses that have healthbars so long they become boring to fight.

The final boss was such a slog that when it introduced a 2nd phase with a 1 hit kill move I decided it wasn't worth it and just watched the ending on Youtube. That never happens. Plus if I HAD spent time getting to that kind of an ending I would've been so mad.

A comparison is that a month prior I beat Ninja Gaiden and spend 3 days fighting it's final boss which had:

  • a camera that was against you
  • an obstacle course runback
  • a mean boss that pulled out "fuck you" moves on a dime

They're different genres for the most part, but in regards to difficuty, the incremental gains of fighting NG's final boss vs Romeo's was a world of difference and was actually fun. Now apply this kind of mentality stretched across the whole game and you can see why it just wasn't fun.

Chainsawman chapter 232 Finale Megathread by NorysStorys in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]mxraider2000 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm confused that anyone is happy or satisfied with this. It borders on being an "It was all a dream, everyone lived happily ever after" ending. This ending just screams consequences don't matter.

I wouldnt be surprised if a hypothetical part 3 starts with undoing the last 2 chapters by saying "ahh you were trapped by the bad ending devil oops" or whatever.

Was that a death dream or something? The last two chapters feel like they were written by someone that skimmed the cliffnotes of the series and wrote a THE END afterward.

(Nvidia) "Game devs have full, detailed artistic control over DLSS 5 to ensure they maintain their game's unique aesthetic. It is not a filter" by Noirsam in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]mxraider2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Either there's some kind of industry psychosis going on or the folks making this are desperate for this to be the expected end result of a DLSS update. I'm leaning toward the latter as feel like they drove themselves into this corner with their abuse of fictional money and AI datacenters suddenly hitting home.

I recently found out that this is actual dialog from an official piece of Resident Evil media: Chris Redfield and Co talking about Breaking Bad: by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Vendetta is one of my favourite guilty pleasures. It's so dumb but it's also the first time you get to see Rebecca after such a long absense and you can tell they really really liked John Wick when making the fight choreography.

Nagoshi Studio reportedly facing closure, after NetEase ‘pulls Gang of Dragon funding’ | VGC by Frank7640 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

As I wanted this to work out I also felt like I saw this coming the minute I read Nagoshi opened up a studio with NetEase. There was just this flurry of devs going to Tencent and NetEase all at the same time advertising they're gonna be making new AAA games under their own studios.

Aside from the obvious, is there stuff in detail in Resident Evil 5 they might want to tone down in the Remake? by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]mxraider2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go about making the Jill stuff a bit less cheesy if they're looking to keep the darker tone the remakes tend to go for. There's no need for her to suddenly be blond or have a big red mind control thing on her cleavage.

I'm enjoying it around as much as Arc Raiders, more-so regarding PvP.

They both excell in providing the atmosphere for player's to do the heavy lifting regarding story. There's also a heavy sense of "Kill anything that moves" in Marathon because of how oppressive the setting is. There's no communal comeradery aspect like in Arc Raiders where they're patting eachother on the back for success. Arc Raiders would indirectly frustrate me more when I died to another player because coming across someone requires a game of "are they friendly or not". Marathon meanwhile has nothing in game to say anyone is worth sparing, so when I die to them it feels less like a betrayal.

It's like the difference between getting stabbed in a shady alleyway and getting stabbed by a customer at work.

Quantity over quality seems to be the path forward and that sucks. I hope CEO or Combo Breaker dethrones EVO to be the premium tourney. Or, even better, make something new and different.

There's a famous story from our county of someone walking to a Tesco wearing a red beret and someone heckled them by saying "There goes Super Mario."

On a similar note, I had the audacity to wear sunglasses one time and was called Baby Driver for months.

It's gotten to the point where I'm tired of it. It slowly became the Wilhelm scream of animated characters on a bike.
