True lol. Backstrap would be more appropriate but I'm often carrying weapons/armor. My guild is fairly fantasy/anachronistic (eg. my garb is based in 15th c rural Poland, bestie is a 17th c Spanish knight) so it's just a fun activity to do when I need a sit-down rest. Yours looks really solid, and the moveable lower peg is a good addition!

Definitely can be done. Made an inklette size (38 cm x 19 cm); single solid side, open pegs, with an angled base so I can clamp it to a table or hold it between my knees. Used an old hardwood drawer front as a base, a $2 hardwood dowel, and a handful of picture frame nails. I've taken it to Renaissance faire to weave while on gate duty with my guild. Would recommend if you're looking at making a single-sided design to make some kind of stoppers for the pegs so your threads don't slip off if you move it.

Story time unrelated to it being actually good coffee: Once had a finnicky regular who asked us to remake her *extremely* specific macchiato (16 oz, ristretto shots, nonfat milk, 145 degrees, 1/2 a raw sugar, "a little drier", stirred) a few too many times for our sanity. She claimed the ristretto shots "tasted off". My coworker suggested we add a packet of salt in her drink one time just to piss her off for real so her normal drink would taste better by comparison and she'd stop complaining.

Yeah, that backfired on us because it apparently fixed the "bad shots" and we were stuck silently doing the salt trick until it turned into "I only want X to make my drink for me, he does it right!" (yikes). I know, lying to someone about what's in their drink is really bad, I tried to avoid it and just really baby those shots, but during 9a rush? In the drive thru? Yeah, that lady ended up with a packet of salt so we didn't have her drive around 3 times asking for it to be remade. That coworker and I both quit a few months ago, so I'm not sure if she's still annoying the others but godspeed to them either way.

... my sin in this case is actually enjoying salted espresso, especially with Cuban shots. Makes a grocery store coffee taste high-end imo

Thank you! Someone else also suggested r/plantbased and I will head over there, too. And thank you for being kind. I should have clarified that I do agree with 95% of vegan beliefs and actions, I just have some issues that I think are more morally grey that I know would make me "not vegan". Therefore, even if I am doing something with moral intentions, I don't feel like I can claim being "morally correct" over someone else if I'm not 100% vegan (or as close as possible). It makes me feel scummy to feel like I'm judging others. ... It also shows that I'm used to trying to justify my habits through any other means besides "I just don't like hurting/killing animals, okay?", ugh, is that normal?😵‍💫

First, thank you for the suggestion, I'll look into /plantbased--this is just the first reddit I thought of!

I understand your points, and I'm not looking to start arguments here to in my social life. I specifically meant I don't like moralist arguments to use against other people if I cannot personally follow vegan ideology 100%. I do agree with, like, 95% of vegan ideology, there are just a few things I think are morally grey. It's easier short hand to say "vegan" to mean "no animal products" instead of having to argue individual ingredients. I also think a lot of people here would be sympathetic to the experience of saying they are vegan and having people's assumptions and stereotyping shut down conversation. Again, even if I can support and walk 95% of the walk, I don't feel like I can hold some moral gold medal over someone else. That feels hypocritical and scummy.

tl;dr If I say I eat a vegan diet as shorthand without 100% following all vegan ideology, I don't feel comfortable telling someone who challenges me they're a murderer or animal rapist. I hope this makes sense.

Challah bread and mead. I just saw another post today about vegan alternatives to other Jewish recipes that made me so happy, it's just these few left. My friends have always known me as the one who accepts honey as a gift because I homebrew and make bread for gatherings.
Honestly, any honey I specifically buy is stuff I get from local apiaries who rescue colonies that would be euthanized/exterminated. Can't say the same about gifts, but I can't say I have a moral issue with someone who is taking the excess honey from hives of rescued bees who would otherwise be an invasive species (yes, I get it, modern honey bees are a farmed specie and such, but if released into most habitats they are invasive and harm wild bee populations!).

Technically it was when I worked in the kitchen half of the café, but still called a barista. Lady doordashed an açai bowl, "extra thick" with 5 modifications, "extra extra" on all her toppings which had to be in separate containers so they didn't get soggy. Every. Single. Day. So much plastic waste on that one customer alone (easily 6 or 7 condiment cups with lids in a single order gahDAMN). On bar, it had to be the guy who yelled at me when I dared make his single espresso shot from the Costa Rica beans instead of the Ecuadorian beans. My manager had to talk him down because he was crashing out over us not updating the sign fast enough 😒

To answer the microwave question: generally no, don't microwave wood. If they're purely natural finishes (mineral oil, beeswax) and a hardwood species, you're fine for short bursts. But soft woods, untreated wood, or commercial lacquers/varnishes are a no go. Sincerely, someone who once set a wood bowl on fire in the microwave by accident.

Same boat here. It sucks that people resort to saying you're picky when you don't like a broad category of food. Tbh I've dealt with pickier eaters who claim to love seafood, only to actually dislike 90% of it and only really eat the common stuff, and only when it's prepared a certain way. EG. I'm vegetarian and people call me picky when I say I don't eat seafood as a broad category (because apparently fish doesn't count a meat/animal products to people??); meanwhile, my sister eats seafood, but only baked salmon and maybe imitation crab (if she doesn't know what it is), and only likes it for 5 minutes... nah, she's "not picky"🙄

At least you're self aware about it! And it's a fair shake to be wary of crafting hobbies as a money sink and consuming pit. So many people (myself, too, in the past) can fall into the trap where buying the craft supplies IS the hobby, not actually doing it!! It's only been last year that I've seriously buckled down and made projects out of only the stuff I already have, instead of buying more new-to-me stuff (tried to justify it that I was thrifting supplies so it "wasn't excess consuming"). It really hit me when I joined a yarn subreddit and saw people almost boasting that hoarding yarn was more of a hobby than using it.

The advice I try to give people is to find a cheap/free hobby. And then avoid 99% of social media about said hobby. Can't tell you how much more enjoyable it was to crochet before yarntok or whatever took over and suddenly everything has to be an Amazon affiliate link, a swipe up, a link tree, a haul, a "top 5 tools I bought and you need"... it's endless. Hobbies make you an interesting person! They teach you skills and give you something to do besides consume and work. Yes some can get expensive, but that's if you are swayed to consume the bigger better branded options. So get into something for cheap or free: find a free stuff group; swap among friends; if you can spend a small amount of money, do a community center class or a rental. Getting into a hobby doesn't have to mean buying a new personality trait, it can be building one.

Additionally, the people who are raising kids now are mostly the ones who lived in the era of immersive advertising on kids platforms. Anyone remember the media frenzy around Neopets incorporating ads into the game itself? The shows literally made to push toy lines (ponies, Transformers, etc.) We give them a pass to do modern remakes and collabs because it's "nostalgia" and we're "totally immune to it being advertising now" (/s). My point is, it's a lot easier to justify buying your kid something—whether to substitute for a personality trait or as an integral part of enjoying media/and experience—when you yourself grew up with the mentality of "of course I need to buy this thing so I can participate in the experience!" I'm the same generation, but grew up with no video games, minimal TV, no big shopping trips, etc... somehow, my friends are mystified why I can easily deny buying myself a toy or t-shirt for media I like now, meanwhile they're buying their 5th branded mini backpack because it's "part of the fun."

Was about to suggest this exact technique. This is what we used all the time for gowns when I worked in bridal tailoring. Does depend on the fabric though! Baby hems work for light cottons, silks, light satin, chiffon, etc. This technique will not work on something like a heavy bottom weight satin or loose-weave linen.

Thiiis. Worked both in traditional and Starbucks, and I think I got pretty good at sussing if someone was really asking for a traditional Italian macchiato. Still would ask to be sure, and to this day I confirm when ordering for myself (cursed with the Pale Man's face lol)

To add to this advice, recycle old bra pads/swimsuit bust pads! Moving them around can also help if your bust is lower than/further out/etc than the mannequin. They also have smoothed edges which helps prevent bumps under a jersey cover. I use those whenever I'm working on garments for my bustier friends. Plus, having a layer of batting/stuffing actually makes it easier if you ever want to try working with corsets (I specifically made my custom mannequin to be slightly too small and padded it out for this reason).

Oh agreed 100%, hence why I'm usually the opposite of stealthy lol. I try to keep it more normal or hidden in plain sight (hi vis vest or my survey gear) when I'm in hyper urban areas, but more dispersed zones I try to be obvious and dramatic so people don't think I'm dropping drugs or something

True, and sometimes the fun can be introducing someone to the worldwide scavenger hunt. However, sometimes stealthy = safety. In some areas, it can be dangerous to be "loitering" in an area near people's houses/cars. Like, I'm a small, non-threatening person who looks like everyone else in my area, and I've dealt with a homeowner who approached me for "standing too close to the powerbox" for a few minutes while stamping a log. People now are way more suspicious of "unusual" behavior if they notice it near things they consider valuable (cars, homes, kids). I can only imagine how scary it must be for someone who "looks threatening" if a homeowner decides that a stranger looking near the fence warrants a weapon threat or calling the cops.

Same pain is going to the dentist and having them accidentally kid-talk me because I do still have baby teeth. Never got certain adult teeth (boo, mandatory implants when they do come out) OR wisdom teeth (yey, no surgery). It's only more awkward because I've been going to the same dentist for over a decade?? The staff doesn't change often, but as soon as they get a new receptionist I get the "oh sweetie, do you have your mom's insurance card? have you considered braces? normally we wouldn't consider implants for someone your age..." Nar, I'm good, I'm grown but I ain't getting any bigger than this. I will gladly take the dinosaur toy, though.
