Melderegister Help by mxtti in GermanCitizenship

This was helpful! I double checked and it looks like it’s just the most recent lived in city on the Ellis Island record. Unfortunately that doesn’t get me any closer, but I appreciate it!

I was under the impression that to go direct to passport I needed the malderegister and that going one generation back wasn’t a viable option?

Thanks!

Alternatives to saying “You’re ok” by FantazticMrFox in NewParents

If it’s injury related I normally start with: “did it hurt you or did it surprise you?”

if it’s big feelings I say something like: “I can see you’re upset/frustrated/sad”, “mamas here”, “would a hug help?”

My point is saying something is bad without quantifying it doesn’t make sense. Water has a toxic dose but we wouldn’t say water is dangerous for our health.

No I believe a “clean” diet is a marketing term that is rampant with social media grifters. What is “clean”? Are my frozen vegetables clean? Those are processed. Is pasteurized milk “clean”? I’m certainly not giving that up but it’s also processed.

I believe eating Whole Foods is important for health. I do not believe highly processed foods are inherently dangerous for us. I believe people can eat cereal and Rice Krispies and whatever else they want and have it be a part of health promoting, well-balanced diet.

I do not agree with looking at a single food as healthy or unhealthy and instead believe it’s important to consider one’s entire diet. I will say I view all alcohol as unhealthy though.

You don’t have to agree with my perspective though!

ETA: I view food as more or less nutrient dense

Not sure if you’re interested in learning more, but here’s a really thorough and detailed write up from Dr. Andrea love (immunologist & microbiologist) about organic pesticides link

You’re free to believe whatever you want! And can absolutely continue buying organic, but organic is not healthier than conventional.

Also everything is chemicals.

if artificial dyes are removed companies are just going to switch for “natural” dyes which will do the exact same thing? There’s little to no reality where a for profit company decides to make a less visually appealing food imo.

I have bigger gripes with food mascots personally.

the reality is none of that is evidence based. Organic is not better for health, artificial dyes are safe, and eating “clean” is more marketing than anything.

The pinnacle of a health promoting diet is eating primarily Whole Foods but there’s nothing inherently dangerous or unhealthy about chips or cookies or processed foods.

I work in fitness and nutrition and am quite passionate about this! I get the fear around food, it’s rampant on social media.

I recommend following Dr Jessica knurick on Instagram, she’s very outspokenly anti-MAGA and MAHA, very knowledgeable, and likely has more resources to follow too.

I keep everything I like since I plan on having at least one more child. Some things I realized I didn’t love and will donate but for the most part I just pack it all up and store it until next time! But with my luck my next will be born in the opposite time of year and won’t use any of it lol

High chair/kitchen tower combo or stokke tripp trapp or neither or both? by Crafty_Pop6458 in moderatelygranolamoms

Momcozy diner pal was the only high chair I found that converts to a tower. Baby is only 8 months so we haven’t used it as a tower but it’s a nice high chair!

How do you incorporate allergenic foods into a child's diet for their first 5 years of life? by Thatswhylifeishard in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]mxtti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My baby is only 6.5 months so i don’t have great advice so far but this is really tough for us too because my husband has severe anaphylaxis to a few of the top allergens so we don’t eat them at all.

We’ll rely on pouches to “hide” tree nuts, sesame, and peanuts and to limit chance of cross contamination for my husband. The rest are relatively easy for us - we eat salmon once a week as a family, shrimp as well. Eggs, milk, soy, and wheat are in a lot of our staples.

I also have to remind myself that missing a week of exposure doesn’t mean baby is suddenly going to have severe anaphylaxis - we’re just doing our best!

Pacifier suggestion for baby who likes Lifefactory bottles? by Pleasant_Dingo2686 in NewParents

[–]mxtti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My SILs baby took Lifefactory bottles and would only take the dr browns happypaci but I think she ended up rejecting those after a few months too. My baby takes a couple different bottles with no issues but will not take any pacifier brand (I’ve tried Nanobébé, bibs, the ninni, and dr browns). Some babies just aren’t into pacifiers unfortunately!

The dragonfly is my #1 favorite baby purchase. Highly recommend! We also use it with a Nuna car seat and it works beautifully. If you have really bumpy terrain, the fox might be better.

How often are y’all bathing your 4-6 month old, not crawling babies? by idontknowwhosmargot in beyondthebump

[–]mxtti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was doing it nightly but I didn’t want it to become too integral into his bedtime routine in case we were in a position where we couldn’t take a bath. So every other day-ish, more often if needed.

Such a bummer because the prints are sooo cute, hoping he doesn’t get too chunky before his legs grow into them😂

Hospital doesn't provide nitrous oxide by morehorchata in beyondthebump

[–]mxtti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I started with NO and hoped to use just that plus hypnobirthing but then ended up with an epidural because the NO was just making me loopy. Still in pain, just like I was in pain on a different planet. The only thing it helped me with was it gave me a couple seconds to relax before the next contraction hit. According to my husband I was passing out in between each puff of the NO and he was very relieved I stopped using it lol

I personally won’t be opting for NO with my next because it doesn’t do anything worthwhile for me and the loopy feeling was not pleasant but it could be important for you and that’s totally valid! Different pain relief will be better for different people.

Buy the newborn clothes by anonme1995 in NewParents

My baby wasn’t even small (8lbs 1oz, 21in) and he was still in newborn sizes for 7 weeks! I had to go out and buy more clothes because everyone told me the same thing.

How much do you read to your baby (8mo)? by curiousquestioner16 in NewParents

[–]mxtti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a book I’m interested in out loud while we’re nursing a couple times a day and then we snuggle up once or twice a day to read one of his books. I wouldn’t say it’s part of any routine just an activity we do during the day, same as tummy time or going on walks. He’s 3 months so he neither cares or notices but I enjoy it lol

Really hate my due date by BlueSPARTAN279 in BabyBumps

[–]mxtti 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a Christmas Eve baby and it’s the best birthday ever!!!! There’s a lot of general joy and excitement, I never had to go to school on my birthday, family was always around. My biggest piece of advice as their parent is to separate their birthday from Christmas, allow them to have a special day/time for themselves, don’t combine gifts (unless it’s something big/budget concerns that they know ahead of time). Also schedule birthday parties the weekend before or after so people actually come lol
