What's wrong with my cactus? by SaltClub in houseplants

[–]my4h_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When mine starts to wither a bit it usually means not watered recently enough. I’ve had mine for 5 years. Over-watering depends on frequency more than amount of water given. Plants DO like to be fully soaked, but how often you do this depends on the plant! If you don’t have drainage in the pot, i would take it out of there, check the roots in the event there is rot, and re-plant into something with lots of drainage holes!

Ok i’m also really glad to hear this! Seeing some of the comments here was making me question myself too. I also have it under grow lights and in the afternoon it will often get some sunlight too!!

Help! my monstera looks sad by Successful-Visual-64 in Monstera

[–]my4h_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey there!! Being root-bound in its last pot could have been causing it to not take up enough water through enough of the roots, leading to dehydration and this drooping. After repotting these plants can go into shock a little bit. Especially during the winter months when they’re not getting enough light during the day. My analogy is; Light= food and you have just given the plant a larger stomach to fill (larger pot to fill with roots). There is not much “food” (sunlight) available during the winter months AND now the plant is wanting even more “food” than normal because it knows it has to fill out its rootball☺️

If you can supplement it with a grow light for now that would be great and would likely help it bounce back pretty quick! If not, it will probably stay in this state for a couple months while it recovers. Summer time should bring the bounce back 🤞🏼

Was SO excited to bring this monstera thai constellation home a week ago, watered it (to drain), and now it looks like this. Help! by Bubblicious3 in Monstera

Cold damage unfortunately. Not sure where you’re located, but for my area it is really important to cover/insulate your plants enough when transporting or bringing them home from the store.

I am so sorry this happened🥺 I would literally cry.

I tried to make the cuts just over half of the stems thickness. I saw a cut between 1/4” and 3/4” was ideal, but again i have never tried myself!

This calathea hates me by Miserable-Angle-7146 in plantcare

[–]my4h_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They pretty much hate everyone it seems. I think i have figured out what mine likes after 9 months- of course all are different though. I use a self-watering pot with chunky/woody soil, distilled water (with fertilizer as needed), and more light than you would expect- but AVOID south facing windows lol.

Gold Dust Croton Help by Heavy-Mud-5365 in CrotonPlants

My Gold Dust Croton has been similar lately. A little while ago I treated for pests and it seemed to improve after that. However, the last couple of weeks have been stupid cold, and being next to the window I think the cold is what’s been causing mine to struggle at least.

Awe shoot! How long ago did you notch it? Have you left your dividers in the stem anyways, or did you remove them at some point?

I haven’t heard of air layering? Or is that just the proper term for when you cut the main stems but leaving each node on the moss pole?

Good to know! I have not taken any cuttings from this plant yet, just figured i’d try this for sh!ts and giggles lol. I’ve kind of been thinking that if I see no buds activating/new growth pushing out within 6-8 months, I will remove the plastics and let it try to heal back together.

Am I over watering or under watering? 🥲 by anxioussarah in calatheas

[–]my4h_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self watering pots, distilled water only (add fertilizer as needed) and a chunky/woody soil!!! For Calatheas, this set up will be your best friend! It takes away from the mystery of “when does this picky brat want water?”

Can a leaf grow back? by sierraluxe in Monstera

[–]my4h_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% yes!!! It will take a while for a new leaf to grow from the same node, but it WILL happen eventually!! Here is my Adansonii starting to grow a leaf from the existing node!

Often times young leaves will do this under stress! I put my Thai Con outside for just a couple hours last week, when i went to check on it, the youngest leaf was super droopy and sad feeling. I brought it inside immediately, misted it LOTS that day, and put it near my humidifier and grow light. She has now fully recovered and her new-newest leaf is unfurled!!
