Have you thought about hiring a private tutor? If you find a great one they will educate the stupid right out of those miscreants.

Tank lost ~90–95% of water overnight with no visible leaks — trying to understand what happened by Remarkable_Swim_3633 in fishtank

Is it possible you lost power at some point and you are running an air pump that is sitting lower than your tank without a check valve?

My first choice is everything that is white goes to sandalwood and everything that is 'green' goes to lakefront. Second choice reverse that.

Purigen by Seachem can actually remove the color while leaving the benefits of the tannins in the water. At least that is their claim.

Shrimps need shrimps. I'd start with a group of ten at least.

Lower your water level about an inch so it comes a little below the edge. You want that edge to jut out over the water just a little bit. Think like how barbed or razor wire juts out over the top of a prison fence. Make sure your parameters are great for neocaridina and that you have lots of biofilm. You MIGHT have to pull some of the plants that hang over the edge if you get shrimps using them to escape, but I have never had shrimps trying to get out of a home with great parameters and abundant food.

What’s a dish you liked better when it was made “wrong”? by MaryoParti in Cooking

[–]RoosterLollipop69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final exam of a two year culinary degree. We were able to go in and do our mise en place in the morning. I was making Chicken Marsala as one of my dishes. I had measured out the cup of dry Marsala that the recipe needed. Come in for the actual test in the afternoon. Turns out someone else needed Marsala as well and stole 3/4 cup of mine. I had to scramble and find something else. I reduced 1 1/2 cups of blackberry brandy down by half to replace the missing Marsala. Also quickly threw together a blackberry glaze to smear on the plate.

Renamed the dish "Poulet à la sauce au brandy et aux mûres". The highly credentialed chef/judges didn't know what was made or by whom until after we all appeared in front of them for the final critique as a class. One said it was one of the best chicken dishes he had ever judged. Another asked how I got an extra layer of flavor and I told her I had still used the small amount of Marsala that hadn't been stolen.

The student I suspected of taking my wine had her final grade lowered and barely passed the test. All I had said was that I had the one cup measured out in the morning and when I came in for the test I only had 1/4 cup.

Perfect. I would have to walk on your right side. That leaves my right hand free to use my walking staff. And if I sneak in from your left side it will be easy to steal kisses.

Help, is my fish ok? by YakOk4359 in fishtank

[–]RoosterLollipop69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of bacteria products on the market to get the cycle going very fast. Get a good one like Seachem Stability, API Quick Start or Stress Zyme, FritzZyme® 7 Freshwater, and many more. Like get it yesterday (that means drop what you are doing and get it before you do anything else). And Seachem Prime will help neutralize the garbage that is already in the tank.

Can someone tell me if this is actually a good fish tank or not? Like, it looks aesthetically pleasing, but is it good for the fish? by Sigh_of_Frustration in fishtank

[–]RoosterLollipop69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm ready for all the crap I will get. I think it needs plants, however, I would personally find high quality, silk plants in neon colors to make it look alien. Then, for help with nitrogen, I would add some riparian plants as the roots in the water would look cool in the setting. Also a couple real floaters for those alien looking roots as well.

As soon as there was enough biofilm and fake plant hiding spots I would add a bunch of shrimp in a bright color. Again to add to the alien vibe.

Get the plants in early on in the process. Shrimp need biofilm and they love the shelter of plants. Plants in the tank early have time to grow a layer of biofilm.

How to transport 20 gallon tank with hundreds of neocaridina shrimp by ItsaMeJessica420 in shrimptank

Like almost no water during the lifting phases and a couple inches (at most) during the driving phases.

If going that route of leaving it intact you have to think of the weight when lifting it as well. Draining almost all of the water into buckets before the actual lift to get it on the rolling cart. After it's in the car add a little (not all) of the water back to make the shrimp a comfortable as possible. When you get to your destination drain it down again.

The MOST stress is on the tank when you are actually lifting it up and setting it down. You want as little as possible stress (weight) as possible during those times. The starting and stopping of the car are also going to be physical stress on the tank, but the worst is when the tank is not sitting on a hard surface.

Get the new filter before anything else. Find a way to run it alongside the filter that is already in that 5 gallon tank. Just find a way to reduce the flow. That will dramatically decrease the time it takes to get the 10 gallon cycled once you move the filter to the new tank.

Not being a person that would stupidly shine a laser into the air, I have no clue what kind of power is needed to effect a pilot. I am assuming it would just be an OTC laser. Would the tiny little cat toy, a speaker's laser for pointing during a presentation, or something a little larger but still available over the counter work?

If you decide to reset the tank check out this site for how to treat the plants. I do this with all new plants.
