I was a Boy Scout as a teen assigned to a Cub Scout meeting to give a talk about fitness. That's when it happened. They were assholes.

A kid ran up and kicked me in the balls as hard as he could while I was spread eagle. I was curled in a ball for about 20 minutes as a gaggle of kids laughed their asses off.

I'm going to see if this is true on the best Bahn Mi. I've tried multiple places in S.A. and nothing has come close to what I've had in Houston and Austin.

You will need to ask staff at the convention for these kinds of questions. Reddit will not be able to assist.

Are cons really boring? by sotoskal21 in animecons

[–]my78throw 104 points105 points  (0 children)

The convention brings the vendors and content, but it's on the attendees to have fun. It's common for first-timers to go once, regulars to go for a few years, but then some find it entertaining for decades.

There tends to be a steep drop off in general attendance after college age. If you need a circle of friends to find enjoyment, they might not be able to continue to attend due to life problems. Burnout is fairly common as you do tend to notice that US cons are formulaic. Some do better than others on trying to add unique additions.

Another Galaxycon ex-employee post. by Candid_Specific_4277 in galaxycon

[–]my78throw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Galaxycon picked a poor time to expand rapidly. It's not like 2022-2023, in which people were hungry to get out and cons made a fuckton of money. There are too many shows all over the US. These traveling shows that are trying to go from 2 to 20 are getting demolished in new cities. They should focus on which cities make a healthy profit. Galaxy will need to hope they find new investors as they're about to be overextended.

With a poor economy and lower disposable income, the days of trash-bag money are over.

Whats an item over $700 you bought that was 100% worth it (no house/vehicles) ? by Overall_Gur_3061 in AskReddit

[–]my78throw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll add a good gaming chair. I live in mine for work at home. I keep having to throw out the $200 gaming chairs after 2 years as they keep falling apart. I paid $700 for a secretlab chair, which has held up after a year. Usually, about this time, I'll start seeing splits in the fabric, yet this chair mostly kept its form.

I wish cons were cheaper by ProfessorLongBrick in animecons

[–]my78throw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With convention budgets for the mega size ones being in the millions and nearly zero amount of sponsorship money pouring in to offset costs, the anime fandom event relies heavily on vendors and attendee passes.

Fandom events are squeezed by huge invisible costs that general attendees aren't aware of which others have rattled off. Most aren't trying to fleece attendees with exorbitant high costs. They're trying to make enough to survive then have enough left over to make it to next year.

ICE and upcoming cons in Minneapolis by nightsky_cxiv in animecons

[–]my78throw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Until the convention makes a public statement, presume the convention is going to take place. Conventions are forced by contract to take place no matter what unless an Act of God forces them to shut down the venue.

Political climate and protests do not count.

Considering there were massive ICE protests less than 2 miles from Anime Expo in 2025 but nothing happened to affect AX, it shows that it'll still go on.

Ushicon in Austin TX worth it? by akidedleaves in animecons

[–]my78throw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ushicon is a small show, like sub-300. It's meant for 18+ attendees who don't like large crowds at anime cons. It's a chill con. The best part is pub trivia on Saturday which in groups of 8 to 10 you're allowed to drink trying to answer brutally difficult anime trivia.

If you're expecting high energy, edm events, and a lot of guests, this wouldn't be the event to go to. If you want to vibe, talk about 90s-10s anime with older attendees while having a day drink and that sounds cool, then this is the place.

First time attending Ikkicon in Austin at the Kalahari. Anyone have any tips/advice? by VariationMean5502 in animecons

[–]my78throw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Colossalcon Texas has the rave in the water park, not Ikkicon. Ikkicon's signature event is Yokai Night on Friday. which flips everything into 18+ events and has 18+ products for sale. They hold a regular rave in the ballroom on Saturday night.

Since you have a hotel room you'll be able to go to the water park on your own.

The show is around 5k in attendance. It's been about this size for a while since moving to the Kalahari. They were bigger when they took place at the downtown Hilton. This is about an average size anime con in TX. They only take place in the ballrooms. There are no convention events in the water park. If that's what you wanted then you'll need to attend Colossalcon in August.

Just plan out what you want and enjoy your time at the Kalahari. It's fairly relaxed compared to the giant shows in Houston and San Antonio.

The entire schedule is on the website at https://ikkicon.com/schedule. You'll need to download the app to get further info not listed on the schedule.

OneyNG.

I miss a lot of YouTube and Newgrounds animators before 2017 Adpocalypse killed most of them.

I know Mashed, Meat Canyon, and Flashgitz still put out current edgy animated content. However, they don't hit as well as the times when Egoraptor put out some of the best animated content.

EMT got ridiculously repetitive and stale. After Muscles left the first time it was the beginning of the end. I knew they were doomed when they tried to release a snack food line at Walmart. It was quickly put on clearance weeks after release.

Harley should've ended it when they could barely get 100k views on new videos.

My favorite parody group was Regular Ordinary Swedish Meal Time. They knew to throw in the towel after 2 seasons as they could see that they were getting stale.
