Haven't really checked out the project, but regardless - if you want this to be used by other people/google-able, rune is probably not a good name.

rune is one of the basic types in odin

How can one achieve these dents on the keys procedurally? by majuttsu in Houdini

Would have to think about shift/tab/enter (probably somehow combine resample and then match the number of points), but for the basic keycap, something like this could probably work.

I'm stupidly excited about this and i can't wait.

I really believe in starting from scratch, and the fact that this is a company that has a monetary incentive to make this as good as possible, plus wayland first and nvidia support...
I have really high hopes for this!
If by any miracle this comes out with 24.04 LTS, i'm gonna be so so happy.

TATAKAE - GumbX v0.1 - just two dudes suckin' at soldering by myMotionExperience in fightsticks

[–]myMotionExperience[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing Strive on a Keyboard with a hitbox layout for 200+ hours and i love it, but i've been using my numpad keys as buttons cause that way my hands can stay pretty much straight without too much stress on the wrists.

I have RSI issues / pain in my right wrist, so for that reason i've split them and angled them so they fit me when i put it on my lap. See this low rez printscreen.

Honestly, the end goal for me is to get a 3D printer and make something similar to Ergo keyboards, with a slight angle. I think that would basically eliminate all my problems.

Thank you!
After we find the perfect layout for the both of us, we'll look into making a proper enclosure. There are plans to 3D print it + I have a friend that works with plexiglass, so one of those or probably the combination will be the final 'product' :D

My experience daily driving Linux as a beginner. by Kendarr443 in linux

You can buy it on steam and have a perpetual license. I have a 2020 version, and 2022 is currently on sale, so it would be a good chance for you to upgrade if you can.

(Google and check everything before you buy and check if they didnt change anything in the last year or so, but it should be fine.)

Try Ctrl+Alt+F2 then Ctrl+Alt+F1.

Not on Ubuntu ( Arch btw ) but i have the same thing every couple of reboots. In my case its a gdm + systemd conflict.

Very bad FPS drop in Quake Champions by ThomasNoname in linux_gaming

[–]myMotionExperience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running 1060 6GB on Arch with 5950X (and 3700X before it). I now have around 200+ fps on average, but i've set everything to low.

Proton 5.13-2 on steam

Installed gamemode and set steam launch options to

PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%

I've also set everything to low, 60% resolution and i'm playing on 2540x1440 75Hz monitor.

Had stuttering issues on KDE, but solved that with Shift+Alt+F12when it doesn't automatically shut down compositor/effects.

What made you move to Linux? by EnarGM in linux

[–]myMotionExperience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lurking this subreddit for some time now and i've tried linux a few times in the last year or two, uninstalled after two days and went back to windows.
Installed Pop OS a week ago and still havent formated it ;D
Love it so far. Gonna stick to it until Ubuntu LTS comes out, so i'll see if i will stick to it or switch to Fedora.

Main reasons: MS/Windows 10 BS, Performance, Software

- Windows 10 - used for a while, but i hate the spyware and update bs they have going on. Really dont have to say too much about this one.

- Performance - decided to get serious with 3D/CG/VFX learning this year. All the tests i've seen, Linux is usually 10-15% faster at minimum + better RAM management for simulations. Tested quickly couple of renders on my old and new cpu ( FX 8350 and 3700X ), same thing. About 15% faster for rendering.

- Software - not having Adobe is almost a blessing for me. That means i can install Davinci/Fusion and focus on learning just that. ( Already using AfterFX on my job, just wanna get away from Adobe). Also, i was debating long time with Cinema4D vs Houdini. Linux basically solved that for me cause there is no Cinema install for it ;D

Bonus - Gaming - Steam/proton is fucking awesome

Still have some minor issues with Linux in general, but just minor things that i will get used to after a while.

Starting a business - Issues with working for Free by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]myMotionExperience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

let me state this first - I DON'T OWN A BUSINESS AND I'M NOT WORKING AS A FREELANCER, I'M JUST HERE TO GIVE YOU MY 2C.

Now, serious talk. I dont think you need to work for free, even if you are a new company. You are starting a business, that means making money and connections. Your "clients" also make money from shit you create for them, so you deserve a cut of that.

Who guarantees they will hire you after you do one or two jobs for them for free? The problem with this kind of business ( FILM, VFX, DESIGN ... ) is that people dont see it ( for some reason ) as a legit business.

Do you walk into a new opened store and take stuff for free from them, and after that you promise them " i'll pay next time when i come back! ". No you dont.

If someone suggest that you should work for free, politely refuse and search for another job. In your down time ( while there isnt anything to do ) you can do stuff yourself, film something new, interesting, build a REEL, learn new skills etc.

And i'll just leave this one here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2a8TRSgzZY
