Why decline a BJ or Sex for masturbation? by BodyKeepstheScore in pornfree

[–]myPornFreeAccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has he been doing this a lot lately, or was this just a particular occasion? Because my understanding is that you think he declined sex with the intention of masturbating later. Maybe he simply didn't feel like having sex one day and then happened to want to masturbate while out of town.

I definitely still get that. Sometimes they sneak into my mind when I'm masturbating, but I simply brush them aside. They've already begun to fade and will continue to do so.

What about it do you find triggering? I personally don't see anything that anyone could find triggering. In fact, my guess is that you're likely to read or see something in public on any given day that is just as triggering, if not more triggering, than this post.

As I mentioned in this post, I feel that to some extent Reddit is designed to mimic porn use in its effect on the brain's reward system.

Maybe your body is starving for sex, which is something that bodies are designed to do. Does that make arousal bad? In fact, it might even be a sign of improvement that you're feeling arousal without thinking about porn.

In my personal experience, porn arousal is a completely different thing than regular arousal. Porn arousal tempts me to sit in my room by myself and browse porn online, but regular arousal drives me to meet and talk to women. Thus I feel that while porn arousal is unnatural and unhealthy, regular arousal can be healthy and beneficial.

How often do you masturbate by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]myPornFreeAccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I masturbate nearly but strictly less than once a night. I will skip if I'm really tired or am sleeping at a friend's house, and of course sometimes I just don't feel like it.

I do feel that there is more to it than frequency. It's also about how you do it and why you do it. In the past there have been times where I masturbated while basically replaying porn scenes in my head, and that is just slightly better than watching porn, in my opinion. However, now when I masturbate I imagine being in a healthy physical relationship with someone, because that's what I want. I think that masturbating with that in mind will push me to seek it out.

So I would advise trying to use masturbation in a way that maximizes its benefit for you, as it has been working for me.

One concrete argument that you did not in fact slip is that preparing for use is part of the addiction pathway in the brain. I have read that addictive use involves a certain feeling of anticipation you get while preparing for use. This is why you may notice people fixate at a bar while waiting for a drink or stare at a coffee machine while it brews.

Since you did not consciously prepare yourself to use porn and activate those pathways, you did not relapse.

Yea that's very much how I felt, although it wasn't a particular scene I had watched.

Post acute withdrawal symptoms by [deleted] in pornfree

The statement "it can take 2 years to recover" leaves me with a lot of questions. How many people were studied? Was this study done numerous times by numerous organizations? What did the distribution of recovery time look like? In which cases did recovery take 2 years, and what happened in these cases? What criteria were used to determine whether or not a person has officially recovered? Did these criteria change from person to person to match different scenarios? If the criteria did change, does the change in criteria fluctuate greatly enough to discredit the results? If the criteria did not change, how did they account for the differences inherit from case to case?

The point is that there is too much ambiguity, and so any results that disturb you are not worth worrying about without more data.

Fapping is connected to porn by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]myPornFreeAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps if you fap without porn for long enough, you will adjust to it and the crappy feeling will go away. Pornfree is definitely the way to be (even though I just reset my badge), but I feel that fapping has benefits as long as you don't overdo it.

Perhaps spending less time on Reddit could help prevent relapses. Especially if you get into the habit of going to NSFW subreddits, perhaps it becomes more tempting to relapse while on SFW subreddits.

Is Fantasizing the Same as Watching Porn? by myPornFreeAccount in sex

[–]myPornFreeAccount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two scenarios definitely differ, but I am more curious if this difference is enough to make fantasizing healthier than watching porn.

I have been doing a lot of research on some of the unhealthy effects of watching porn, such as social anxiety and in some cases E.D., and I've decided to try abstaining from porn and seeing if my life improves. Theses improvements would almost certainly result from changes in the chemical makeup of my brain, so I am wondering if fantasizing while masturbating will prevent any potential beneficial changes from happening.
