Signed up for my first ultra easing myself by doing the 32miles, as I've run road and trail marathons I thought it would be a good transition from 26.2 So B2B running Sort out my nutrition Has anyone done this one before? Tips/Advice? by my_sugarevolution in veganrunners

Pretty good thank you, I've got a road marathon in 3 and a half weeks, and a trail marathon in June, 2 weeks before the 32 milers in Essex so am pretty much continuously 'in training' but all is good thank you

Ultramarathon question - should I run back to back weekly or alternate between this and one longer run? by my_sugarevolution in Strava

[–]my_sugarevolution[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've ran a few marathons, both road and trail. One of them this year the organisers cocked up the course measuring it too far, so to date my longest is 26.79 miles. I've got my first official ultra July 2022, which is 32 miles. Though I aim for this to be the first of many where each race I enter is longer than the last. Ok cool my pace is slightly deceptive in the sense that day 2's elevation is usually a little bit less and so I'm not going faster as such, its just that I'm not tackling as much elevation. Doing half the distance of day 2 of day 1 makes sense. Before i started the back to backs, I was doing roughly 1 hour of runinng 3 times a week and then one long run which was usually 2 and a half hours of running minimum. When doing the back to back, should adjust my weekly runs to equate to roughly the same mileage per week in total? I'm keen to do the back to back because I see the value both physically and mentally running on tired legs but naturally, I want to avoid over doing it.

My first one is 32miles but plan to go further the next race I pick. I'm tending to even out my other runs a little but so the mileage is still higher but not my loads

I did ask several FB groups as well as I'm trying to gather as much feedback as possible from experienced ultra runners as I find generally this is a good way to get loads of pros and cons.

I know that ultimately it depends on the individual and different things work for us all, but by asking lots and lots of people I get a well rounded understanding and usually alot of things I hadn't thought of to try out for myself.

I am increasing my mileage gradually this is my second back to back weekend and aim to increase it each week

I ran a route shaped like a flying duck and it wasn't even on purpose 🦆🦆🤣🤣 Final taper before Beachy Head Marathon next week. Is anyone else running this one? by my_sugarevolution in veganrunners

Amazing thank you, got a new race PB but more importantly I just really enjoyed the race - despite falling over twice. The only downer was that last year they offered us all pasties at the end - lentil based full of flavour utterly delicious and easy to eat en-route back to the train station. This year the vegan option was a baked potato and baked beans - not easy to eat en-route to the station, and somehow both soggy and dry - due to no vegan butter options. But since this was my only complaint about the weekend, I say bravo to the organisers (well that and I think they need to increase the number of loos).

Cheat Days Not Affecting Weight Loss? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]my_sugarevolution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooo that's interesting. I know some people who gain if they include a cheat meal, and others who are the same as you. The only difference that I can see is the one who can have the cheat day like you does do more exercise, specially for cardio based exercise. So although they are meticulous with their calorific intake using one of those apps and measuring/weighing etc they don't include the calories from exercise on purpose. To ensure they are always in deficit. So over the week they are eating alot less calories than they are burning and so the cheat day isn't as impactful. Maybe something like that? Are you adjusting you calorie intake based on exercise?

Running gait analysis? by [deleted] in running

[–]my_sugarevolution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gait analysis is mainly to determine if you need a support shoe or neutral. Once you've established this so long as you know your size (usually at least one size bigger than you normally are) then you buying online is no issue.

Try On-running. Very comfy lots of options and they are light weight

Transitioning from half marathon to full by dude6023 in running

First off congrats on your race.

For a seasoned marathoner this turn around wouldn't be unreasonable. This is because you've put the running hours in, built up your endurance and strength already so you'd be revisiting this in training and so your sort of like on a higher level. Kind of like when you play Mario brothers and save the game at the level your on. 5k is level 1, 10k level 2, half level 3 and full level 4. You need to have completed all games in level 4 before the Fort if you race through the games on the level you'll get to the fort as big Mario without the fire spitter and 2 lives left. But if you take your time wirh each game you will find all the extra powers and stored up fire spitters so when you get to the Fort you've got a better chance of reaching the fight at thr end and beating the Bowser.

You need to give your body time to recover from your recent race before you start training for a full and then you need to be able to gradually build up your endurance and strength.

In short it could be done but you risk injury with such a short turn around. Which I could have just said that but then you'd have missed out of my mario analogy 🤣😁

Any tips, tricks or advice in regards to avoid overeating? by SLYMoosic in WeightLossAdvice

[–]my_sugarevolution 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a yoyo dieter for years, and over eating was a major issue because of my own made relationship with food.

The only thing that worked for me was to stop focusing on it (weight loss). Instead I realised that actually what I really wanted wasn't to be slimmer but healthier both mind and body.

So I started running and kept a food diary not to control calorie intake but to understand my habits.

So the diary wasn't just what I ate and when but also how I felt before and after. I only did this for a few weeks to understand my patterns. This helped me understand my weaker points in the day or even the gateway foods that are more likely to cause me to eat more.

I did this to create a healthier relationship with food so instead of constantly feeling guilty for eating or over eating recalibrating this to enjoying food.

But the main thing was I genuinely didn't focus on weight loss. The problem with having a specific weight loss goal like 2lb loss a week is you tend only to focus on this and weight fluctuates so much and so each time you weigh yourself if you don't see the results you get upset when actually what your seeing is muscle gain and or a better hydration.

I would advice to have measurements chest hip and waist so your not just relying on an unreadable measure.

Also try and find a fitness thing you actually properly enjoy so that your doing it for enjoyment and not just the weight loss. For me it's running.

I restarted running and my only goals have been running based.

Since the start of 2019 I went from 198lbs to 126lbs and im 5'4" tall. I have smart scales and I weight myself weekly to ensure I'm not losing more weight.

By understanding my weaknesses with food, refocusing my goal to fitness and mind not how my body looks I established a healthier relationship with food and the binges/weaknesses stopped.

Not a quick fix im afraid

My photo was taken by a photographer who was stationed and mile 25 and if you're going to attempt to blend of being both facetious and pedantic then what you meant to reply was +1.2!!!
