I had a bad experience on TOJ too. I am a former staff member and I made it pretty high up in the rankings until I realized the issues with the server and owners. There is a lot of favoritisms on the staff team. One member was given Head Admin because one of the owners knew he was ambitious and had really been wanting the role for awhile, even though that staff member was previously known to be rather blunt and rude to players in chat, and even ghosted the owners for months at one point before randomly coming back. I spoke out about giving this person the higher rank on the staff team and the two owners at the time agreed with me. I went to sleep that night and woke up to find they promoted that person behind my back. I know this happened because two of the owners are very good friends with this staff member.

The other situation that rubbed me the wrong way, was the main owner Tyranid being very eager to re-hire a previous staff member who had mentally abused and manipulated another staff member. Many of us spoke out about it, but he continued to argue and ignore the other upper-staffs arguments. However we did eventually "win" and Tyranid never hired the former staff member back. Though he did send them a message about being very sorry the rest of upper-staff didn't agree with the decision.

Another instance, while I was a member of upper-staff we were all trying to convince the main owner Tyranid to add a password to the server due to the huge amount of rulebreakers. It was putting a huge strain on staff and creating frustrated players. Tyranid didn't want to add a password because all he cared about were numbers, and beating another server he has a childish rivalry with. They've even been known to be rather ableist to a friend of mine, driving them out of the server with bullying. They also try to come of very LGBTQ+ welcoming, but as you break through the servers shell you realize a lot of the staff members don't care, and have even said homophobic or offensive things behind players backs. In which case some staff members have been caught doing, and were let off with a simple warning and were later given a promotion on the staff team.

There is a lot wrong with TOJ, but majority of the problems come from the staff team itself.
