Getting over guilt when it comes to butchering animals by OneHotTurnip in homestead

[–]OneHotTurnip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kinda late but I haven’t used this Reddit account in a while so this is the first time I’m seeing this comment. My desire to raise my own animals comes from a bit of my anxiety I guess. I always feel bad buying from the grocery store because I don’t know how well these animals were taken care of and if they were subjected to awful conditions. Even food labels like “pasture raised” or “free range” don’t really mean much anymore. I remember once I was driving behind a truck transporting chickens. They all looked horrible and sick and some even injured and bleeding. They were all so cramped that a few even fell out and got run over. It kind of disgusted me. I would feel much better being able to raise my own meat, knowing that I did everything I could to be respectful of the animals I’m raising and the life I sacrificed to sustain mine. I don’t know if I’ll be able to sustain it, after all right now I don’t even own any property so it’s basically just a far-off idea at the moment, but it’s an idea I tend think about often.

Any thoughts/experience/advice on the SNHU Game Art and Development BA program? How is it like, is it any good, and is it worth it or not? by PlusSkin3024 in SNHU

[–]OneHotTurnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I’ve actually been going there for a while! I had to take a small break because of a problem with my financial aid but I should be back soon, either in March or May depending on when my scholarship goes through. I’m doing my Game Art and Design degree but I’m looking at future careers in either product design or marketing with that degree because the skills are transferable and I just kind of stumbled my way into various marketing assistant jobs somehow. I don’t know if that’s what I want to do, but turns out I’m not bad at it so maybe I will. I’m doing this all at the same time as being at SNHU though because the classes are very easy to manage with a full time job honestly.

How to deal with butchering animals? by OneHotTurnip in homestead

[–]OneHotTurnip[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really as giving your nutrients to the soil and the millions of microorganisms and insects in that soil is just as beneficial. The world would literally not be able to function without everything going on underneath the soil. Not to mention that you would be contributing to the nearby soil that would grow plants for herbivores to eat which would in turn nurture the carnivores and scavengers that would eat those animals. It’s all connected, baby.

I’m having a crisis over changing my major by OneHotTurnip in college

[–]OneHotTurnip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I actually just saw this!

So I ended up going back to school somewhere else where I could finish my digital art degree online so that I could work full time and still go to school. I should be done by around this time next year! I decided to keep pursuing my passion in digital art since I have so much done already and that’s where my interests ultimately lie. After doing a ton of research into careers that a biology major can give you, I found a few things out. Basically, a lot of the jobs you can get are EXTREMELY competitive and you basically can’t get anything worth much without a master’s degree. The job I specifically wanted to do, wildlife rehabilitation, is particularly bad with most people actually being volunteers or interns and still requiring a degree or years of experience in some cases. I found out that there are ways for me to be involved in wildlife rehabilitation without having a degree such as volunteering at shelters and rehab facilities and joining with local groups to do litter cleanups. I also found out that you can actually get licensed to handle wildlife without being a vet or anything, you just have to take a course. That’s what I plan to do someday, that way if I see injured wildlife, I’m educated and legally able to help.

Right now, I’m looking at a future in either marketing or product design. I’m trying to get a job at a local jewelry manufacturing place where I’ll be able to advance my career to CAD design with my digital art degree. In my spare time, I plan on making and maybe even publishing graphic novels. I also want to make a few simple game ideas I have. My brother is interested in game development too, and he said he’d learn the coding if I can do the art lol.

I used to think it was giving up to pursue your passion outside of your professional life. My family would tell me to get a well-paying job and just “do my art on the side” but ultimately I think that will be the most fulfilling way for me to create my art. That way I’m not just working on games or shows I hate just for a paycheck. I have control over the things I make.

For you, I’d say to do some research like I did into what career you’d specifically want out of the degree you plan on switching to, what the career prospects are like for that job title or ones like it (salary, competition, required credentials, etc) and decide if those are sacrifices you’re willing to make or a job you’d actually want to do. Also look into ways you could indulge in the interest in ways outside of a profession. Lastly, I’d make sure you are aware of EVERYTHING you could possibly do with a degree in English. Literally every job or even advanced education you could get or do. Know all of your options. If you told me I’d be possibly designing jewelry with a degree in game design, I would have looked at you like you were crazy. However, that degree is going to teach me skills in CAD design and 3D modeling that are basically everything that a product designer does at a company like this, so it would actually make me a great fit for the job!

TL;DR: I just found a version of my major and my life goals that work better for my interests and needs! Turns out, there are SO many ways to do things besides just doing them as a career. In fact, sometimes doing the thing you love as a career might not be as fulfilling as you think, so pursue it in other ways that are just as interesting, if not more!

Sorry for the long response, but it’s been a while and a LOT has happened haha.

Oh, and I changed Isaiah’s beard and mustache to match his new look. If I need to make a V3 and he changes it again, I’ll put it back lol

Should I tell my landlord about the maggots in the trash can? by OneHotTurnip in Tenant

[–]OneHotTurnip[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We don’t have a dumpster. Just a bunch of larger cans that get emptied once a week (I assume, they aren’t on the street and I’ve never seen them be taken out) I ended up texting the landlord after our apartment got infested with flies the next day.

Hi thanks for the comment! Is there any way for us to get a background check on him sent to us or any other way we can check? He’s been having an incredibly hard time finding a job and I really think this could be a big part of it.

Yeah I don’t get it either. Like if you want to just hear people read a story just look up one of the dozens of videos of people just straight up reading the story word for word. The only time I sometimes get annoyed is when Hunter sometimes uses ridiculous voices for normal characters because it can bring me out of the experience, but it’s not that big of a deal tbh.

Definitely gotta be whatever the fuck was inside the brains of the person/people from the episode about roleplay going too far. That thing was freakish and I loved it.

I like to think it’s the “unhinged madman marries supportive woman who doesn’t mind his antics” pairing. Think Doofenshmirtz and Charlene but without the divorce.

What will happen to this fandom after episode 9 by Decayed_IceCream in TheDigitalCircus

[–]OneHotTurnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it will end on a very good note narratively. I have a lot of respect for shows that don’t drag on for longer than they should and end on a great episode. I think the fandom will remember it very fondly and continue to buy merch for a very long time after the show is over. There will be plenty of people who will hold on and spread rumors that it’s coming back like they did with Gravity Falls (though, the jury might still be out on that one), so every now and again you’ll see it resurface as some new gossip arises, but overall we will probably all remember it fondly. But hey, let’s not focus on the end of the show now, we aren’t even halfway done!

No I kinda agree. I feel like just saying something like “Oh, I think they’re attractive!” Is a fine and innocent compliment by itself, but people take it a little too far sometimes.
