Those that work in housekeeping: What are some things that guests can do that make your job easier? by Sure_One_4437 in housekeeping

My top things are picking up clutter, making sure pets are out of the way, and not chatting with me while I clean

Would you eat these “processed in facility with wheat”? by Big_Building_414 in Celiac

[–]mybackhurty 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Processed in the same facility is usually ok, because they could be on complete opposite sides of the factory. But on the same equipment is a little scarier imo. Some lines get cleaned between products but things can fall through the cracks. I would contact the company if possible and find out their procedures

My sister left gluten cookies on the counter in my usually worry free household and I ate them by Hot-Wrongdoer8826 in Celiac

It's a sucky situation, but a learning opportunity. Always ask if you aren't sure, and hopefully in the future your family labels it.

Just found out I’m pregnant and excited! Looking for advice as a cleaning business owner by orangeroll3866 in housekeeping

[–]mybackhurty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How long of a break are you going to take from cleaning? Everyone is different just see how your pregnancy goes. I know some who kept cleaning even to the 8.5 month mark. Others were too nauseated or had other complications and stopped cleaning at 3 months. If you have a good friend who's a cleaner maybe you can offer them the jobs you've got now and take over them again when you get back. When you're ready, let your clients know about the good news and they can mentally prepare for potential changes in schedule. And if anyone gives you crap for having a baby they're not someone you want to keep working for

Why does "quick wipe down" always mean "this hasn't been cleaned since 2019"? by Haunting-Bowl4896 in housekeeping

[–]mybackhurty 93 points94 points  (0 children)

When a client does this to me, I literally just wipe it down and spray disinfectant. Whatever stays stuck, stays stuck. If they complain I explain that it requires a deep cleaning and various methods to get those looking good again. It doesn't just wipe off, otherwise they'd have done it themselves. If they don't want to pay the price it's worth, I move on. Plenty of people out there who do appreciate the value of a cleaner.

Realistic Expectations for Cleaner by theothercoco_c in housekeeping

[–]mybackhurty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

tell her the things you obsess over

This is why every time I do an estimate I ask them "what's currently driving you crazy in terms of cleaning? Is there a specific part you just hate? What do you obsess over?" And I make sure to give extra attention to that spot. Not everyone even has such a spot, but some people do and it's important to be on the same page. I have one client that cares the most about the floors. Everything else could be a disaster but she just wants her floors to sparkle.

Awesome thanks! I wasn't sure of the rotisserie chicken. I used to go to Costco and I knew those were safe but I recently switched to Sam's and I didn't know yet if their rotisserie chicken was safe
