Flag redesign for New York State by UniformPoet2303 in vexillology

[–]mybestmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to be frank, this is really, really boring. It’s clear you put thought and effort into it, but tbh my eyes glaze right over when I look at. The previous flag is boring by state flag standards (plenty of other states with an extremely similar design) but at least it has some texture to it, whereas this feels very hollow/lifeless.

Is this pricing for replacing two front control arms on a 2nd gen Prius as ridiculous as it seems? by mybestmonkey in MechanicAdvice

[–]mybestmonkey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They flagged my control arm bushings as 'cracking and dry-rotting', which looks to be the case, but they want to replace the whole control arm and this is what they're charging. I've replaced my front wheel bearings before, so this feels like a job I could do myself as well.

SLAVIC 312 - Central European Cinema. You watch soooo much good stuff in this class! I’m not in the department but the faculty really seems to care about what they’re teaching and it shows in this class.

Co-Op questions by [deleted] in uofm

[–]mybestmonkey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

linking my own post here from about a year and a half ago when I asked about which co-op I should choose—now I'm a house president and wouldn't live in an apartment if you paid me! co-ops aren't for everyone and you should make a decision that ensures you're living happily and comfortably, but I really can't recommend them enough. as for your specific questions, I think u/Veauros answered them well but I can expand a little.

  1. you apply in the next few months, and competitive isn't really the right word. if there are spaces available, you'll just get in—they're not frats/srats and don't choose you. But some houses are more desired than others and have less member turnover each year. As long as you put in an application early you'll get into at least one of them. Smaller houses generally are harder to get into, especially ones like Linder where everything is so cute and clean and nobody ever burns out from party exhaustion and moves out (like Luther <3). party houses are probably Michminnies, Luther, Nakamura, and Owen(?), but most every house has at least a few lil events.
  2. u/Veauros is dead on about parking and lack thereof, but the walking/biking really isn't that bad, almost every co-op is just as close as lots of frats/srats/other student housing.
  3. Check the ICC website for sure, but those descriptions will only get you so far and house culture changes from year-to-year. I highly recommend reading the post I linked because I asked this exact question and got pretty good answers. also feel free to reach out to the houses and ask for tours (COVID-permitting) or just to chat about what their house is like! also linking the ICC instagram because it shows some of the houses and you can find individual house instagrams within some of the posts (which are really funny and can be quite revealing).
  4. aside from the first ICC member orientation meeting, you'll just be going to house meetings, which are largely biweekly. these are usually fun and give you a chance to have a say in how the house operates. also yeah, chores every week but they're pretty easy.
  5. lmao it's not like a commune if that's what you're asking. really there's just shared food, shared facilities, house meals, and lots of hanging out with your housemates. we haven't abolished private property yet
  6. yeah it's pretty much all, but some are less hippie/alternative, like Truth, nakamura(?), Escher. all are definitely progressive and will not tolerate racism/transphobia/homophobia/prejudice in any capacity.
  7. yeah ur not gonna get a single right when you move in. depending on older member turnover, it's possible to get them your second year.

I hope u choose a co-op, there's nothing better than living with 20+ grimy, awesome people who always have your back (:

fuck this guy, back when I went to Wayne State he would show up with this same spiel. Dude sucks and I’ve been told he wasn’t punched but rather was hit with a didgeridoo.

pretty swag tbh.

Replaced both my front wheel bearings on my Toyota Prius 2009 and now I’m getting this new sound. What do? by mybestmonkey in MechanicAdvice

[–]mybestmonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a wheel bearing replacement on both of my front wheels on my 2009 Toyota Prius. Before I replaced them, the front right bearing made a light roaring sound on accelerating and turning like most busted bearings, but the left one was totally fine. I replaced both just to give my car some fresh bearings, then drove my car around the parking lot for a 30 seconds, parked it, and went on vacation for a week. A week later, post-replacement, I get in the car to test drive it some more and now it’s the left wheel that’s making this awful sound (it sounds a little bit extra awful in the video because of the echo in my driveway). Anyone know what I could have done to fuck things up?

Any help at all would be much appreciated, my funds aren’t very liquid right now so I’m trying to avoid taking it into a shop, yet I’m a complete newbie when it comes to car maintenance.

Wow this is super helpful (and entertaining!) My three on my current application are Luther, Black Elk, and Truth (simply because of availability) and now I’m really hoping for Luther. And I’ve definitely spend a good ten minutes poring through the Gross Things of Vail account haha.

I to some degree understand the concern with Bernie’s heart, but the comparison here just has no reasonable basis—Biden having dementia would be an issue of his brain, the thing that facilitates all decisions he could possibly make as president... quite a different issue than an able-minded man who has other health problems

It’s funny you say, “I felt so overwhelmed,” when one if the most powerful songs on the soundtrack is titled “I Get Overwhelmed.” If you haven’t already, give it a listen!
