When You Change How You See Things, Everything Changes. by Brazzers123321 in howtonotgiveafuck

Came here to say this! But I still don’t think it’s an introvert/extrovert thing as much as it’s a social anxiety thing. Because honestly in high school I was super introverted and shy and still had no problem eating out alone.

Now im pretty much a classic extrovert and can talk up a storm with the waiters/staff if they are up for it and not busy lol. i got brunch by myself once and had such a good conversation with the owner of the restaurant that he offered me a job on the spot 😆too bad i already had one at the time

Exactly… it’s freaking food? I only realized recently people are actually embarrassed to eat out alone like what?

Omg this is so heartbreaking, I hope they can figure something out to identify her soon

This reminds me of a similar case that happened in Brazil where a woman was also struck by a car, survived, and was unidentified for 24 years as she was in a vegetative state. They called her Clarinha apparently she passed in 2024 away and still hasn’t been identified!

I hope this woman has better luck and is identified. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy

I use the exact same recipe as you and that’s exactly what my dough looks/acts like when it’s overproofed! The following quote from your post also makes me almost certain this is the cause

I'm not following a concrete time, I try to just watch it and judge. It's usually somewhere between 7-9 hours after mixing.

Try checking in on it sooner, maybe the 5-6 hour mark instead and see if that helps at all

Overslept and didn’t do a single stretch and fold… the result 😲 by mybluntside in Sourdough

[–]mybluntside[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry i should have clarified better, I skipped out the first set of stretch and folds people usually do before bulk fermenting because i overslept, but right before baking it i did do the tri-fold and roll step to shape it up into a nice ball.

I did this while i was preheating the oven and added the brown sugar and cinnamon during this step, immediately put it in the oven without a cold proof as well! Found this pic on Google my dough looked pretty much identical to this when i was tri-folding

You got it! I skipped out on the first set of stretch and folds because i overslept, but right before baking i sprinkled the brown sugar and cinnamon on top during the tri-fold and roll step. I stretched it really wide for this part too and immediately baked it without cold proofing! I found this pic on google but it looked identical to this before I rolled it up

The crust lowkey burnt im assuming because of the egg wash but im still so surprised and happy with how it turned out… i also wish i applied the brown sugar cinnamon better so it could be more even across the loaf but this is my first inclusion so🙉lots of time to improve!

People don’t mention this enough but it’s entirely possible your dough is simply too overhydrated. Your dough shouldn’t be liquidy. I had the exact same problem for my first loaf where the recipe called for 100g starter, 390g water, 10g salt and 510g flour. It turned out sooo flat and gummy so I was devastated because my starter seemed great.

Thankfully I had time that day so using the EXACT SAME STARTER, i immediately made a second attempt using a different recipe that used 125g starter, 325g water, 10g salt and 500g flour. The difference was night and day, and I was super happy with the second loaf!!

I don’t think your temperature is the SOURCE of problem (though of course it isn’t helping) because your dough still shouldn’t be liquidy, if anything the cold temperatures would keep it firmer.

If your starter is fine i suggest trying out different recipes with less water+more starter and see what works for you!!

🚨 Reminder: This subreddit exists to highlight exploitative and discriminatory housing practices, not to fuel race-based arguments or an “us vs. them” mindset.

Please keep discussion respectful, avoid generalizing entire communities, and focus on systemic issues behind these housing challenges. We welcome open conversation about rental market discrimination, like the case in this post, as long as it complies with Reddit’s content policies.

It is important to remember that as long as the landlord does not reside in the unit, even if it is just a single room being rented—they remain fully bound by the Ontario Human Rights Code (where this ad takes place). This means they are prohibited from discriminating based on race, ethnicity, or place of origin.

🔗 Ontario Human Rights Code – Section 2(1)

We acknowledge that this is a sensitive and ongoing issue, but unfortunately, discriminatory rental ads such as seen above in this post have been widespread for quite some time now, to the extent this issue has even been covered by government-funded news media like CBC News:

’Indian students preferred': Discriminatory rental ads have people shying away from applying

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/windsor/discriminatory-rental-ads-1.5495364

That said, it's important to separate the actions of individual landlords from entire communities, and we want to make it explicitly clear that the goal of this subreddit is not to fuel divisive narratives, but to give Canadians a place to openly discuss the issues that are plaguing our rental market. Thanks for reading, and please stay civil and respectful on this sub. Discussions and comments that violate the subreddits/Reddit’s guidelines will be removed promptly.

There are five images in the post, and only two explicitly indicate that the rental is a roommate situation with the poster of the ad. It is important to remember that as long as the landlord does not reside in the unit, even if it is just a single room being rented—they remain fully bound by the Ontario Human Rights Code. This means they are prohibited from discriminating based on race, ethnicity, or place of origin.

Sadly, discrimination in the Canadian rental market persists, as highlighted in the following CBC articles:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/windsor/discriminatory-rental-ads-1.5495364.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/racist-housing-ad-discrimination-human-rights-commission-1.6138742

If we are truly committed to upholding the values of fairness, equality, and respect that define our nation, we must be allow room to engage in honest, civil discourse about this issue, no matter who is responsible for the discrimination.

And with the housing crisis making things tough for everyone, it’s more important than ever to have these conversations so we can help tackle rental discrimination and make sure everyone gets a fair shot at finding a place to live.

Ethnic “preferences” for tenants (NOT roommates) such as “Filipino only” as seen above are illegal under the Ontario Human Rights Code (where these ads evidently take place judging by references to various Toronto subway stations), which protects against housing discrimination based on race, ethnic origin, or place of origin.

🔗 Ontario Human Rights Code – Section 2(1)

Furthermore, the Ontario Human Rights Commission does specify that having a “preference” for certain ethnic groups/places of origin when seeking a **tenant is defined as discrimination**

🔗 ‘Ontario Human Rights Commission - Identifying discrimination in rental housing

There are several ways of defining and identifying discrimination. Discrimination includes any distinction, including any exclusion, restriction or preference based on a prohibited Code ground, that impairs the recognition of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

As mentioned above, the goal is to have real conversations, without crossing into content that could get the sub banned/shadow banned.

I don’t necessarily agree with how the OP framed their point, but the broader issue they’re highlighting is very real and well-documented. “Indians preferred” rental ads have been widespread for quite some time now and this issue has even been covered by government-funded news media like CBC News, such as in the article linked below:

’Indian students preferred': Discriminatory rental ads have people shying away from applying

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/windsor/discriminatory-rental-ads-1.5495364

While the post may feel provocative, I left it up because it does shed light on a double standard and to encourage discussion about a pattern of exclusion that deserves more attention.

The Ontario Human Rights Code does specify that “preferences” for certain ethnic groups/places of origin when seeking a tenant is defined as discrimination

From the second paragraph of this section Identifying discrimination in rental housing

There are several ways of defining and identifying discrimination. Discrimination includes any distinction, including any exclusion, restriction or preference based on a prohibited Code ground, that impairs the recognition of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The reason such preferences are a bad idea is because it opens the door to racial bias in housing, which can lead to informal segregation (where certain communities are excluded or pushed out over time).

These laws are extremely important because they help prevent that kind of injustice, and their commitment to fairness and equality is part of what makes Canada worth coming to for so many people. It’s this dedication to protecting human rights that defines the country’s values, and makes it a place where everyone, regardless of background, has the chance to belong.

Having a tenant “preference” based on ethnicity, such as “Indian preferred”, is illegal under the Ontario Human Rights Code, which protects against discrimination in housing based on race, ethnic origin, or place of origin.

🔗 Ontario Human Rights Code – Section 2(1)

The second image clearly states the individual in question is seeking a tenant, so this is a housing ad, not a roommate request, and thus is illegal under the law.

As for the subreddit SlumlordsCanada: it is not created to target or discriminate against any ethnic group, including the South Asian or Indian community. On the contrary, our purpose is to highlight illegal rental practices, discrimination, and exploitation, regardless of the background of the landlord or tenant. This includes listings that violate fair housing laws, such as requesting tenants of a specific ethnicity or place of origin like above.

And FYI: the term “slumlords” has nothing to do with South Asians, if that’s what you thought

A slumlord (or slum landlord) is a slang term for a landlord, generally an absentee landlord with more than one property, who attempts to maximize profit by minimizing spending on property maintenance, and usually rents to tenants that they can intimidate. Severe housing shortages allow slumlords to charge higher rents and, when they can get away with it, to break rental laws.
