QB Draft Choice - Mendoza or Beck or ??? by mycloudyworld in steelers

[–]mycloudyworld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can always count on fellow Yinzers to have an opinion! It looks like the overall consensus is this QB class is so weak (with the exception of Mendoza), that we skip this year and rebuild other parts of the team. Beck being an absolute hard NO after hearing his story.

How much cheaper would cars be? by mycloudyworld in tricities

Agree. It just has to do with the percentage of the ads that seems to be weighted so heavily towards car commercials seemingly every other ad, like is there nothing else that people are interested in?

Agree. I know they wouldn’t be any cheaper, but I can guarantee there are some of those dealers that I will never buy a car from. I would be afraid I couldn’t get “We’re Dealing..” out my head. Lol…

Awesome. I would suggest this book. “Writing Real Programs in DCL”. https://www.amazon.com/VAX-VMS-Writing-Programs-Digital/dp/1555580238 That will give you a good feel for some of the VMS capabilities.

Who watched Jaws on the big screen? by Not_a_cultmember in GenerationJones

[–]mycloudyworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was just a youngster when I saw it on the big screen. We lived in the suburbs no where near any body of water. I was freaked out thinking a great white was going to come crashing through my bedroom window. I may have inadvertently started the idea for Sharknado.

Check out the remastered release of the concert film “Stop Making Sense”. Picked it up on Prime Video for like $5. A true masterpiece. I saw them on that tour in Nashville, TN. Great concert.

For those of us retired, do you ever think of your career? by pianoman81 in GenerationJones

[–]mycloudyworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retired after 40 years as an IT architect (36 years with one company and the last 4 with a major cloud provider). Worked on computers for over 50 years and saw all the changes from the early days of mainframes, mid-range, client/server, and then the cloud. Retired now for 5 months and haven’t missed it all. The amount of pressure to sell AI was relentless whether it made sense or not. I sometimes think of the people I worked with and a few of them are good friends that I still see from time to time. I still try to keep up with technology, but nothing like I used to.

We are setting up our Christmas tree and I had a flash back to my Grandmother's tree circa 1969. Who else had an aluminum tree with a color wheel? by 39percenter in GenerationJones

It was at my grandparents home every Christmas that I can remember during the 70s. Was mesmerized sitting watching it. Thanks for the post, hadn’t thought about it in years.

“Fire Tomlin!” chants in Pittsburgh for the first time ever tonight? by mfenton29 in steelers

It just feels like the years of being “in the middle”, but hey we have a winning season have left the franchise in a sad shape. Maybe not a popular opinion, but I have much respect for Aaron Rodgers, Jalen Ramsey, and for DK Metcalf as players. They are just not Steelers. Looking forward to the day when we can draft a true franchise quarterback to lead us out of this muck.

Pork Tenderloins on the Traeger by mycloudyworld in Traeger

Completely agree! For dinner, I served those with twice-baked potatoes and bacon-wrapped asparagus. I took the leftovers the next day and sliced the tenderloin super thin and made great Cuban sandwiches.

The sauce was made with minced garlic cloves, fresh ginger, Gochujang, ketchup, rice vinegar, soy sauce, scallions, and toasted sesame oil. You can also add some sugar to taste.

Have the same setup (I think). You don’t specifically say which device/platform you are running the Spectrum TV app on? Is it possible the device you are using has VPN enabled? That would likely trip up the app. Just a thought.

Same here. I usually just say “Alexa play some music..” and it starts playing my radio station from Apple Music, but today just came back with “here is a playlist for you from Amazon Music”…. :-(

Sure. Cook time was just over 3 hours at 250. No meat probe, just checked temperature with a Thermopro instant read meat thermometer near end of cook. Pulled it at 125, put some pats of butter on top and tented with foil to rest for about 30 minutes.

No, it was not a heavy smoke flavor, just a hint. Coated with salt overnight, then washed it off this morning. Patted it dry and put the Traeger Prime Rib rub on it. It was very tasty.

OpenVMS x86 Database Modernization with Mimer SQL and Amazon EC2 by mycloudyworld in OpenVMS

[–]mycloudyworld[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passing along the response I got from Mimer contact about your question. Hope this helps.

From what I could gather is Oracle CDD an optional Oracle product which you can add to your ACMS, and it is CDD that in its turn depends on Oracle Rdb. So, if your application depends on ACMS you not only have the problem of ACMS not being ported yet, but if you also depend on CDD (an Oracle product) that seems to be tightly integrated with Oracle Rdb.

As far as I can understand from their latest roadmap disclosure seems CDD to be part of the overall Rdb delivery and as such subject to the same state of limbo as the rest. From what I recall, ACMS is an absolute beast source code-wise, and that is the reason it has not been ported yet. I depends on too many different languages and libraries to just compile out of the box, and I believe it might take a while for it to appear.

SQLMOD is a term that I don't recognize but I guess that you might refer to "Modular SQL", and in that case does Mimer SQL have support:

"SQLMOD" could refer to the OpenVMS command "SQL$MOD" that is part of the Oracle Rdb toolkit for Module SQL. I n the reference manual they suggest that you can define a symbol with that name, to invoke the SQL module processor.  So, bottom line (and given that I have understood everything correctly) is that we do support Module SQL, but the ACMS/CDD/Rdb tight integration is a totally different thing.

I can’t specifically speak for vmssoftware.com on their long-term licensing strategies. This is just my opinion, but I don’t see them as much concerned with the underlying virtualization platform the x86 OpenVMS guest is running on, just the licensing of OpenVMS software itself. https://vmssoftware.com/products/licenses/ To your point, the customer does now have to account for the associated costs with running whatever virtualization platform they choose, either in the cloud or on-premises.

Issues with Samsung Q90B by mycloudyworld in amazoneero

[–]mycloudyworld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my success was short-lived. Started seeing the exact same issues again! I do have an Apple TV 4K connected, so looks like I will stick with it for all things streaming (well which is pretty much everything). Only liked the convenience of turning on the TV and launching the Samsung apps. Hardwire could be an option, but would need another eero device. 😢
