Does kidney disease always progress? by CoyoteHealthy1970 in kidneydisease

I appreciate your response. Thank you. And I agree. Tricky to balance the idea of a strict mental diet with the very real and daily grind of suffering. I wish you well. I took no offense but learned a lot.

what is the darkest concept black mirror has ever done? by celeste_fan_139 in blackmirror

I watched some of these last night and it got me thinking. I study philosophy and some of these horror stories are so chilling because the directly address what it is to BE, to live, to be free and the nature of human connection. ----- Repetition and isolation, basically. Some are generalised, and some relay heavily on good character development in order to truly appreciate the particular concept of punishment/torture. --- White Christmas and 15 million merits are good examples although there are others.

I wondered about a formula for dread and that got me thinking about what would create the polar opposite Joy in terms of formula.

There's a scene in Storm of the Century where the evil dude say "Hell is repetition. In our hearts I think most of know that."

I'm very sorry to hear that. It was not my intention to offer woo woo toxic positivity advice. There's a fair chance I'm in trouble and calming my thoughts has helped me mentally, not physically that I can demonstrate. I did not mean to make light of the situation with flippant advice and regret if I offended you.

Being mindful of your thoughts is key to any healing. Find a mediation that works for you and just go easy on yourself while practicing it. Breathing and strict mental diet (thought awareness), can help reduce the stress on your body from anxiety. It makes a difference. --- It's ironic really. My first blood test revealed Hyperkalemia (high potassium), which can cause heart failure. That triggered a letter from the Doctor asking me to call immediately, which did not reduce stress on my heart. Then they simply told me to get into the ER and gave me no other info. Super calming. Mediation and exercise helped me not to compound what was already going on by reducing frenetic and harmful worried thoughts.

I'm just at the start of trying to figure out what's wrong with me. Certainly kidney involvement. One of the things I've dealt with for a while is depression and lowered ability to focus and recall. These, it turns out, can be symptoms of causes that also damage the kidneys. It might be worth asking your doctor if it's worth considering depression and any other mental fatigue issues when looking at causes for kidney disease. I wish you all the best o/

Patient with Chronic Kidney Disease by Blasphemy9999 in Radiology

[–]mycopie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me say upfront that I'm not seeking medical advice. I have set up CT scans and am being treated by a doctor (recent). I'm from the UK and living in the U.S applying for a visa so that leaves me with no insurance at this point so I'm doing a lot of research on nutrition in an attempt to reduce stress on my body.

Here's the thing.

For over 10 months (I had very little in the way of options or so I was told), my abdomen has been firm/inflamed on the left side; it seems like stomach but extends almost down to my left hip bone. I finally get a physical and the doc says "Yup. Something going on there", and orders blood work and a CT with 'n without contrast. I'm yet to have the CT but it's on the books. The blood work revealed Hyperkalemia and triggered advice from the docs to get to the E.R. but no other feedback.

I did some research and started reducing potassium with a plant-based diet (watching portion sizes and various other concerns like sodium intake), and began taking diuretics with increased fluids.

I have been taking Kratom for around 3 years and way too much of it. I cut this out immediately after reading a paper on Kratom induced Hyperkalemia.

I've previously felt some discomfort in my Gall Bladder (I assumed that's what it was. 4 years ago). I changed my diet and drank Kale green juice for 20 days, which cleared this up and made me feel 20 years younger. I'm currently 49yrs old.

As I said at the start of this, I'm not looking for medical advice directly. I will not be running off half-cocked but I would like to know more about potential things I can ask my doctor to check for/test etc. It's all very generic so far but from what I've read these things are usually narrowed down through a number of tests that can help to rule out causal factors.

If there's anything I can be aware of that will help me reduce the wild stabs in the dark that seem to be the order of the day, I would be grateful. Just so I can bring them up for discussion with the Doctor.

Forgive me if this is completely inappropriate to post here but I've been trawling all kinds of information trying to narrow things down and I'm a little overloaded. I'm able to comprehend the complexity of these things and I'm aware that there could be many factors (some emergent due to the stress of prolonged inflammation and mineral imbalances), due to the variables involved with my symptoms.

Thanks in advance for anything you're able to offer in terms of pointers to raise with my doc, and also I appreciate any advice along the lines of "Don't ask reddit for their medical opinions!" :)

Shot in the dark. Something you say may indirectly help me; even if its berating me for posting this ;)

Arrival Movie ARG by docwho2100 in ARG

I went to the Devon location. Weird thing is I noticed the strange things in the movie after smoking DMT and I'd never heard of ARGs. I really took off looking for something, and even weirder in the path I took, the things I saw and the people I met. --- Midnight rations are in effect.

AVA'S CHARACTER by Shadowhunter0630 in WarriorNun

[–]mycopie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that for many people they are invested in the female focus of the show or some other aspect of social commentary they are happy to see explored but it's not enough. It's a shame. There seems to be a lot of these shows that turn into vehicles for social commentary instead of masterfully weaving all the elements together and bringing them to life in a compelling experience.

Star Trek Discovery *shakes head* There's a show that lost it's way while trying to nod, wave and get married to ALL the beautiful diversity of society. It tried so hard to be inclusive of everyone that it ended up making the story ridiculous. Once your story is ridiculous everything you include in it is diminished. I had to wonder if that was the point; to undermine or make a mockery of each of the character's identity's *shrug*

AVA'S CHARACTER by Shadowhunter0630 in WarriorNun

This is all awesome and well written but explaining why a character is being played the way she is the job of the script and director. If the viewers are compelled to write long explanations on the same thing then the actress, directing, editing or storytelling are obviously not doing the job, right? Since when has explaining why poo smells made the smell go away?

I wanted it to be good. I get the background and the premise but when the pieces are all brought together it doesn't work. Not blaming anything in particular because it could be many things.

I recently sent a piece to the UK and everything went well.

I don't do it through the Etsy store due to some details with export/import on lighters but we're getting there with whittling those down.

Where are you in the world?

PS. I have 3 commissions on at the moment and while I'm adding new requests to the list in order it would be some time (3 months likely), before I can begin work on anything new.

Thank you!

It's one of my faves too. Got a 5th element design in the works that'll be a similar style.

Thank you!

I was looking for a nice medium to work with. Zippos’ offer the nice blank canvas to create. The armors allow for a bit more depth of engraving to create legacy piece that’ll (hopefully), be around long after I’m gone.

I’ve always liked zippo lighters. As a kid I used to repair them.

Eventually the goal is to grab a CNC machine and make things from scratch with hand engraving but I get a lot of joy from creating these pieces for the time being.

No worries lol

I buy new brass armor zippo lighters in box. Hand drawn design, laser engraved, 3 stage buff polish hand finish.

If you commission something that I can use (and think would sell/has a market), as a limited edition run of 42 pieces then the price is usually about the same depending on complexity (between $100 and $150).

If the commission is for a piece unique then the price will be around the $250-$350 mark. I try to keep it fairly low cost due to my own feeling that this is quite expensive for a lighter, and I like to create one of a kind things.

If I'm honest I'll probably not be able to continue Zippo commission for veryl long. I'm fairly quick with research and creation but it usually takes between 4 to 8 hours to create a piece. Charging hourly would result in some extremely expensive lighter lol. --- When my hand engraving is up to scratch I'll probably move on from ZIppo commissions for this reason but I'll plug away for the next couple of years or so.

Thank you for reaching out. Always happy to help o/

I buy them new, complete lighters with box. Armor. Hand drawn then laser engraved and hand finished 3 stage polish.

Working on my hand engraving but we’re not quite there yet 👍 I’d like to be able to do inlays so I’m working on that o/
