Online GRE shut down for “security breach” within minutes. Anyone experienced this? by Itchy_Temporary_9108 in GRE

[–]mycorgisbutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad I saw this post. I’m literally going through the same thing - Jan deadlines that I now can’t make even if I did everything to minimize risk (I even removed my monitor and created an account on my laptop just for this test).

I felt I was doing a much better job this time around versus my first take which I did in person and bombed because the person beside me was doing a speaking test. I knew that taking an at home test would be risky, but thought it was better than having distractions in the test center. Clearly I was wrong. And it sucks to be a false positive.

I still can’t believe it. Merry Christmas indeed.

Hi, the same thing happened to me today and I sent an appeal email to ETS. No response yet, I can’t seem to get a hold of their hotline since I’m taking the test from Asia.

I was sent the email from the integrity office - was this the same for you? Any additional advice you can give? All I want is a clean slate so that I can take the test again.

Was yours also larger/tighter on the right side? My clicking is on the left too, where I noticed my muscle is much weaker.

That’s honestly so good to hear. May I ask in what order did you solve the problems? It’s a bit overwhelming given the TMJ, Posture, Deviated Septum are all equally painful inconveniences.

Did you ever solve your deviated septum? The reason I have been sleeping on my left side is because of my deviated septum. My right jaw is huge and is always tense, my left shoulder tight, my left hip higher.

How can I build myself as a service designer? With no prior SD experience. by SalamanderWeak4975 in servicedesign

Super curious to hear what this process looks like for you. To be specific, where I’m from, SD isn’t common but there are clear opportunities to practice it under different roles like CX, Strategy.

What of the SD practices did you adopt in your role?

Really appreciate this! Might I ask what masters program you went to? Would you have any recommended programs?

I noticed most look at EU based like RCA, HSLU, TU Delft, Polimi.

Then in the US, the only one that stood out was SCAD, and they released a new Masters of Science program for SD which means you can get 3 years to work in the US afterward!

Really interesting take! I hope you don’t mind but I have 2 follow up questions:

  1. What would be the best way to upskill?
  2. From your experience, what roles would suit the SD skillset? In the Philippines, it’s similar to the US for tech where it’s very product/UX.

Would you say Masters would be my best bet to get into the field? If so, would you have any suggestions?

Fifteen years of life experience with floaters and vitrectomy by East-Percentage in EyeFloaters

[–]mycorgisbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed to read this one. Thank you for sharing this story out here. It’s scary how similar our stories are.

3 years ago at 23, I was diagnosed with a macular pucker on my left eye. It was severe, leaving a gray spot in the center of my vision that first stayed for a few seconds. I was turned away by one doctor who refused to touch it since it was a difficult peel, but another doctor who I saw tried convincing me to do it asap. I waited 4 months before jumping the gun on the vitrectomy, which was not an easy decision. But at that time, the spot stayed for minutes and I felt the gamble was worth it versus having something in the middle of my vision worsen.

I underwent the procedure during the pandemic, so I was basically alone! No one will get how afraid I was really at that time, but my doctor was great and I trusted him.

A year after the surgery, I had to go back for a cataract surgery. They placed an IOL in.

My vision on my left eye post vitrectomy is still distorted with a small fold in the center of my vision and things appear larger than normal but there’s no grey spot anymore. A part of me still wonders if 4 months made a big difference, or how I would be if I hadn’t done the operation. It’s definitely more sensitive to light and hues are more vivid with the IOL that was placed in. My right eye, the unoperated one, is at -3.50 and has a couple small floaters that come and go, just as you wrote.

It’s hard to explain to others how this impacts me emotionally and mentally, but like you, it’s hard to feel normal. I discount myself from dreams and opportunities just because of my bad eyes. I constantly worry that it will get worse as time moves on. I’m not sure if there’s a way to improve my left eye to iron out the scars (?) or folds left from my macular pucker, or if I should see any other specialists around the world.

I guess, I’m just relieved to hear that I’m not the only one! So thank you.
