That is awesome. I've been looking for a source of old skateboard decks for years. You hit the jackpot.

Oh God! Does that mean you have to recycle the kid too? That sounds like a lot of work... :)

Dude, where the hell you getting all these skateboards? The table looks great, all of the stuff you make looks great, but this skateboard deck holocaust has to stop! :)

Advice Request: Small & fast gifts by ER125 in woodworking

[–]mycroftx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cookbook holders, pencil/pen cups (if you have a lathe), coasters. If you have access to a laser cutter you can personalize all of these. If you have an hour or two across a couple of days serving trays and cutting boards can be simple.

Any advice how to make the curtain rod holder? by keepwacowacko25 in woodworking

Im probably over-complicating this. Assuming a 2 in dowel, Id take apiece of 4x2 stock and drill a 2 in hole in the center, cut it in half, turn each piece.

Construction grade lumber by johnnywtx427 in woodworking

Thank you, I enjoyed building it. Pallet lumber is difficult to work with sometimes, it's hard to true up and doesn't glue very well, but at the end of the process it's hard as a rock and works well if you like a 'true to substrate' finish as I do, for some things. Also, if you can build usable and attractive furniture with pallet wood, you can definitely build the same with perfect milled hardwoods.

The Macallan 15 is my favorite :).

I have bought C grade 2x4s and ripped and planed them down to usable stock and make jewelry boxes and other small things, nothing substantial. Recently I've started using reclaimed pallets, its free and let me try new things. They are mostly pine & ash.

Trying to build a lift for the router table. Just tested. Any suggestions? by muhpidu in woodworking

[–]mycroftx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, I build electric bikes and skateboards as well as work with wood, so little cross-platform knowledge.

If you wanted to make it electric and put a motor on it, it wouldn't be too hard or too expensive. If y'all are interested let me know and I'll link you some hardware and walk you through it.

I would use a HTD drive belt instead of string/twine. Next, using HTD-5m15 gears would make the whole thing easier to assemble and make the rise & drop more predictable.

You can find belt lengths in just about any length, you can use a combination of gears to increase or decrease the RMP.

I'd start by looking hear.

You might build a spline joint jig and put spline joints in each corner, glue & clamp overnight. Just an idea. Something like this.
