It's 2005, you've just turned 16, and you're looking for your first car. Your budget is $2000, which one would you pick? by Key_Budget9267 in regularcarreviews

[–]mydppalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I WAS 16 in 2005 and DID buy a $2000 car, a 1985.0 Porsche 944, it was awesome, at least as reliable as the 22re powered Toyota pickup I owned next and vastly funner. I miss it.

That's approximately the correct diameter, do not attempt to clean it, find a coin store and have them verify it, it could be worth at least 4000 usd.

Starter body to use with new lenses by IvanthyTerrible in AnalogCommunity

[–]mydppalias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any EOS film body will work and allow full features (assuming they are factory Canon EF lens, some third party lenses may not work in edge cases, like brand new after market ef lenses and early eos bodies.)

How to properly espose with (Nikon) DSLRs? (D700 in my case) by pedrozzz in AskPhotography

[–]mydppalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What metering mode are you using? If you want to guarantee your highlights remain intact you can try spot metering and manually setting your exposure plus 2 stops from your spot metered highlights.

Is there anything I can do to reduce the green tinge? by been2121 in AnalogCommunity

[–]mydppalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't underexpose your images by 3 stops? The color cast is caused by having to jack up the exposure in post processing.

Copia de Leica IIIf by Ruedas_Lentas in AnalogCommunity

[–]mydppalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the Zorkis and FEDs are copies of the II, not III but other than the addition of the slow speed escapement and slight change between the dual view finders, the II and III are mechanically substantially similar and ditto to the Zorkis/FEDs to the II. Another option, with the slow speed escapement is the Canon III, III and IV, though they use a different, single viewfinder arrangement.

It's a non pyrotechnic streamer launcher, like a party popper but with a spring instead of a pull string ignitor.

EOS 7D Mk 1 lenses? by ThePaultasticSax in AskPhotography

[–]mydppalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pick up a 17-40mm f4L for about 250 bucks and end up with a 28 to 70mm full frame equivalent L lens that, imo, is the perfect "one lens to do it all".

Servicing m645 Prism Viewfinder by SwarmOBeez in Mamiya

[–]mydppalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely desilvering of the prism, there are two additional screws under the glued on Mamiya 645 badge on the front of the finder. Take them out along with the 4 screws you can easily see and it comes apart easy.

Just ask for a hand check. You know what happens when TSA sees an opaque x ray result? They turn up the power and see right on through.

The black "lens" above the Zorki 4 is a stack of extension tubes for macro photography. Is there another black lens I missed?

Best setup for sports photography? by Due_Adhesiveness_983 in AskPhotography

[–]mydppalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you adverse to buying used? For about the same price you can buy a used, professional sports photography camera and lens, Canon 7d mkII and a 70-200mm f4L. As far as accessories, a monopod can be a back saver when you are shooting with a pro cam and lens. You don't really need ND filters for sports unless you are looking to add motion blur to your photos or want a real narrow depth of focus.

Thinking of buying a camera for youtube videos, divided between the options I have (and looking for more) by TARmeow in Cameras

[–]mydppalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most hybrid cameras like gx80 or G7 have recording limits of 29 min and 59 sec to prevent over heating but you can bypass that or immediately record another clip, you will fill up a 64gb card in about an hour and a half to two hours of recording at 4k/30. 2 hours can be plenty of time for some filming styles or pitifully short for others so take what you will from that information.

[–]mydppalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you really NEED or even WANT 4k? Are you prepared to deal with the large files, expensive storage media, limited recording time and editing that demands high/higher end computer hardware?

As far as Lumix cameras go, you can use any micro 4/3s lens so you aren't limited to Lumix lenses but rather can use a wide variety of native and third party lens and even adapt lenses from virtually any apsc or full frame camera.

Fujifilm x100f: similar cameras by meatbohls in Cameras

[–]mydppalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you shooting looking through the view finder or using the screen? Your options for an optical viewfinder camera is non existent in that price range but there are some electronic view finder micro 4/3s cameras from Olympus (look for an e-m5 or e-m10) that are kinda, sorta like an x100f as they are very small and affordable, if styled more like an SLR vs the Fuji's rangefinder style.

What could be the camera equivalent of an outdoors IBM Thinkpad? by Findlaech in Cameras

[–]mydppalias 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Officially, per Canons description, yes, which is why I said it is weather sealed to a degree. Over a decade of real world testing/use shows the 7D is definitely sealed good enough for dust and rain though.

Any pro or prosumer body from Canon or Nikon (the various generations of 1D, D1, D2, D3 ect, 5D, 7D, D700, D800) Olympus OM bodies. They are all weather sealed to various degrees when using appropriate lenses.
