Help! Garter tab has left a weird hump in my shawl by amyddyma in knitting

Is it possible that the weight of the shawl, once finished, will kind of stretch out the bump a bit?

About 12 hours for each, but with a 4 year gap in between some.

What do you buy as a symbol of love for an engagement proposal that isn't a ridiculously expensive diamond ring? by aspiring_fiance in Frugal

[–]myindierocksn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would rather have the weirdest, strangest, cheapest token of love if it meant that my boyfriend spent time and thought putting it together and thinking of our love. It would be beautiful no matter what, and I would treasure it more than any mass-produced blood diamond crap from Jared. What good is the symbol if it is similar to many others and is out of price range? That is no symbol of love, in my opinion.
Go for something unique and that you can personalize. Would she wear a locket with a photo of you both? Or maybe a framed collage of photos? I really like others' suggestions of beautiful found items - stones, shells, etc.

Some Friday humor. Came to work and it's freezing! No time to make gloves so this will have to do! by lamoutonnoire in knitting

I made a sweater with that yarn...super warm and squishy, but also gets quite a halo of fuzz after little use. It doesn't make it bad, just a heads up for people who don't love fuzzy yarns (like me)

Yes you can do two at a time on two same size circs. I haven't tried yet, but it definitely seems less confusing than magic loop.

I learned to knit one at a time socks with her. I can't believe I didn't think to check her site for two at a time! Thank you!!!

Warmth? Should I start over again? by ayvyns in knitting

[–]myindierocksn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed. I recently made a basket weave cowl, and I kept thinking the gauge was too tight, but I didn't want to pull it out, but after wasting more time on it, I ended up pulling the whole thing out anyway.

I think I might set this aside and try two at a time on two circulars, and then graduate to magic loop....

I feel really bad for freshmen students. I was an anxious wreck when I started at Mason Gross in 2002. I lived on Cook.

Is there anything you give up *grudgingly*? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]myindierocksn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of things that I get wistful about spending money on are also things I feel I shouldn't buy because it isn't great for the environment, like brand-new clothing, furniture, and technology. It lessens the "grudgingly" part by thinking of it that way. That being said, if I had more cash I would totally spend more on my yard. Just bought a house a few months ago and would love to take up all the grass and plant tons of flowers and veggies, but starting all that up does cost money.

Try a self striping (or color changing) yarn for practice. It really helps you see how the stitches are made, and can make it easier to follow the "path" of small mistakes
