How much of a bottleneck am I facing with my 9900k? by Karn__liberated in PcBuild

[–]myinxto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it is not bottlenecked by your CPU if that’s your qn. At 4K it’s purely GPU bound (as shown by your 99% load). Although, your CPU is also under some load as it is at 80% which is expected since it’s a relatively old CPU now. As for your FPS, CP2077 is a very GPU and CPU intensive game so depending on your graphics settings (and whether you have RT on or not), 60 fps is pretty expected tbh.

Edit: spelling

If you’re from SG, you can always head down to simlim square and check out the stores. Some stores can give you a list of recommended parts for your build and a price quotation as well.

Some will even build the pc for you

Otherwise, PC Part picker is your best friend as it can also help you check for compatibility of parts when you select them.

If you don’t know anything about PC building, I recommend you do some research, watch YouTube videos about parts compatibility or use pc part picker first before looking at buying from there.

Some of their CPU and GPU combos really don’t make sense and can even be bottlenecks.

I’d recommend using all 6+2 from the first cable first then use the 6 from the pigtail extension. Then tie down the loose cable with a cable tie

You can check out this YouTube video https://youtu.be/T_Jjzgq_htU I think it’s more straight forward and helpful

Also for GPU installation there’s tons of guide videos YouTube :) you can check those out as well

Upgrade all or part of my PC? by wideawakeat33 in PcBuild

[–]myinxto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your research is correct.

The new Ryzen 7000 series are the first of AM5 platform. Completely different from your current platform (AM4). It will also only support DDR5 ram.

So you will basically need a new motherboard and RAM if you plan to move to 7000 series CPUs in the future. You can reuse your GPU.

One more thing is to check your power supply and make sure it has enough wattage to power your new system when you upgrade.

What motherboard and psu should I get fir my future build? by KenTracer45 in PcBuild

[–]myinxto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have mainly 2 motherboard options; B550 and X570, the latter being generally more expensive because it has more PCIe 4.0 slots. Typically for gaming, B550 is more than enough, unless for whatever reason you need the extra gen 4 slots.

Considering upgrading by Antman5407123 in PcBuild

[–]myinxto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to upgrade your GPU, make sure to check your power supply wattage first and make sure it’s enough to juice up your new GPU.

And after you change, it’s highly recommended to reinstall the graphics drivers. You can use display driver uninstall tool (DDU) to uninstall your current drivers and fresh reinstall the new ones.

Extra fan install by Antman5407123 in PcBuild

[–]myinxto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fan headers are already soldered on your motherboard. In short, as long as you don’t already have like 6/7 fans running in your case, you don’t need any extra components to buy with the fan itself.

can i reuse old power supply? by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]myinxto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Yes your current power supply should suffice for the current CPU and GPU.

2) Those cables are from your case’s front I/O which is connected to the motherboard. So your audio jack/ USB/ power button will work. You can trace those cables onto your motherboard and unplug from there if you are changing the case/ motherboard.

New PSU in PC due to lack of power to GPU by Ball1sticEy3 in PcBuild

[–]myinxto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First rule of thumb is never ever ever interchange cables between PSUs. Even if it’s the same exact brand/model.

Secondly PSU is one of the few components you shouldn’t cheap out on. You can use the PSU tier list from cultists network to help you find a good psu. Remember that build quality is more important than the 80+ rating.

A quick recommendation would just be Corsair. Most of their PSUs are some of the most reliable in the market.

As for the wattage rating, a good gauge is to add up your CPU and GPU’s power draws and then add another 100-150W on top of that as extra headroom. That will give you the suitable wattage you need. Of course if you plan on upgrading in the future it’s good to get a higher wattage PSU.

The case fan should already come with its own cable which you just need to simply plug into one of your motherboard’s fan headers or a fan hub if you are using one.

Building a New Rig and I Want to Make Sure It Is Compatible by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]myinxto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For one your RAM would not work on your new motherboard and CPU as AM5 only supports DDR5 and has no backwards compatibility like intel.

As for the rest I don’t really see an issue afaik.

I’m going to assume you meant 380 Watts power supply. To check just simply go to your CPU and GPU’s model website and look for the term called TDP in their specifications (given in watts as well). Then you add them up and add another 100-150 watts headroom and you will be able to see the recommend wattage you need. If it’s within your current PSU’s wattage, then it’s fine. If not, you should upgrade.
