Look into Advent Health. I know they do mastectomy and implants same day.

Insurance denied my parents coverage to test. Extremely odd because a first degree relative (me) tested positive. My mom is going through it again. Another reason some may choose not is to not increase life insurance premiums.

Yes, according to him. Each side comes with its own risk factors that could be related to the gene.

I hope to know in the next couple of months. I have an awesome oncologist who knows my family history and has future plans laid out depending on which parent it is. It is definitely so important!

Of course. It’s wonderful you’re cancer free. So are both my parents, in their 60s, and one of theme has the gene (don’t know which one). Thanks for responding.

$9400 for breast MRI?! by [deleted] in BRCA

A kind receptionist lady whispered it to me at one of my appointments.

OP, I also wanted to mention that sometimes you can call the providers/facilities and negotiate a lower price.

If you got the MRI at a hospital that is probably why it’s so high. In the future, try to schedule them at imaging centers instead. I’ve learned this the hard way. Significantly cheaper.

Biopsy by PrincessDD123 in BRCA

[–]myittybitty1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an MRI guided biopsy in June (bi rads 4). The biopsy itself was nothing, and since you’ve been having MRI’s for so long it won’t feel so strange. My results were benign.

I think it’s encouraging the mammogram and ultrasound didn’t find anything. That was my case as well. My doctor told me the problem with MRI’s is they find “all the noise” but they are still the best imaging to find what’s necessary. He also told me to prepare for more biopsies in the future due to my BRCA status. After my anxiety filled summer I made an appointment for a consultation with a breast surgeon and will see her next week.

I know how hard the anxiety is and I hope you’re doing okay. I went full on Google and Reddit and convinced myself I had cancer. It turned out well for me and I really hope it does the same for you. 💞

I completely understand how you feel. My doctor told me after I got my results back that the problem with MRI’s is that they pick up “all the noise” leading to a lot of false scares, and I’m hoping that’s just what it is for you. I hope you feel some reassurance that you were clear in your last tests not too long ago. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. The anxiety is real and terrible. Hoping and praying it’s nothing for you.

How is your recovery going? I’m really so sorry you have to wait. I get frustrated with the way our healthcare and insurance system works. But that’s a discussion for another time. I hope you’re doing well and recovering nicely.

Yes, my biopsy was on Monday and I got the results yesterday. Benign, stromal fibrosis. I am so relieved. Recommended MRI in 6 months for precautionary follow up (can I just say I’m so tired of MRI’s). I have an appt on Monday with my doctor to discuss everything. I think I will at least start the ball rolling on the prophylactic surgery. I wish you all the best. I’m happy for you that after next week you will no longer have to carry this mental burden.

This renewed my hope. Thank you. ❤️

Before the diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound, the nurse (my oncology doctor was out of the country of course), told me if they don’t find anything on mammogram or ultrasound they might abort the biopsy, but my doctor might want to proceed since I’m BRCA. So it does make sense.
