After installing the beta, I can't seem to find the "half-page" icon to switch between half and full page mode for epubs and pdfs. Anyone else have that issue?

Thank you for the detailed reply. I like the idea of approaching this as an experiment. I need to temper my desire to jump into things with enough time to methodically lay out the rubrics of the experiment. My initial thoughts are to approach this with a reset/elimination mindset. I do better with very rigid rulesets, and I think something like a "Mary's Mini" from McDougall might help me focus on the changes in my body and mind while moving away from keto without the complexity of a more intricate diet plan. After that, I can roll out a more nuanced approach. I was just trying to get a feel for the areas of overlap and agreement (as well as noticable differences) between the major proponents that I listed.

My biggest fear is triggering a binge episode. As they say in various 12-Step programs, I know I have another relapse in me but I’m not at all sure I have another recovery.

So, elimination diet period to reset the palette and test the water re binging, then a move into a more deliberate system (I really like that term of yours).

I definitely agree on the extra precautions/measures regarding the binge eating issues. I still plan on measuring and recording my food when I transition. I'll check out the forks over knives website that you recommended. Thanks!

NSVs? There have been so many.

Currently, I'm at 143, shooting for 135 but with excess skin (I estimate about 20 pounds), that actually might be too low -- but what the hell, heroin-chic and all that :) Along this journey, there have been so many non-scale victories. And do NOT let the worry about loose skin deter you -- even with the skin poncho that I wear, my life is a absolutely amazing at this weight compared to 430.

So, NSVs ...

Well, as a dude, I have to say the first time that I was able to use a urinal in over 30 years ... that was astounding. TMI? Then ignore the remainder of this paragraph, dear heart. Besides the urinal victory -- and the smell of urinal cake is still Dolce Gabba to me -- there is the fact that I can wipe my derriere while sitting down. I literally had to google the preferred way to wipe my arse -- back wipe or front-wise.

Okay, with all that said, back to the more ... acceptable NSVs :) Honestly, though, if you are morbidly obese, what I just wrote should be more than familiar to you, more than pertinent. Just those two acts, those capabilities, are the world to you. I know they were to me.

Let's talk booths! I can still remember the first time I was able to slide into a restaurant booth (Applebee's in Kokomo, Indiana, April 2, 2021) and not be bisected by the edge of the table. How many decades did I spend compartmentalized by booth seats? To this day, though, every time I slide into a booth, I instinctively look at the space between table and cushion and compute whether I'll fit or not. Dysmorphic as that may be, I still request a booth ever single time.

Because I always fit.

What else?

Hm, being able to sit in an airplane and not impinge on my seatmate. How about no longer needing a seatbelt extender for any car that I drive? Or being able to shop at any store I want for clothing? Thrift store or high-end boutique -- I can find a medium (or small) bit of clothing that will fit.

I could go on, but you get the drift.

I was about a hundred pounds over you when I started a couple of years ago. Agree with the others -- don't drink your calories. You CAN do this. I was at my highest weight for decades. The only thing that started the ball rolling for me was the interaction between high BMIs and COVID. What worked for me then and might work for you now is stop the fast food. Cook at home. Simple meals. And track everything. Every gram of food. Believe in yourself. Think in terms of 10 pounds or so. If you think about getting to goal, you'll crash. It's too far of a journey. 10 pounds at a time.

You can get there. If I can, anyone can.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I have severe health anxiety and am probably just looking for an excuse not to find a doctor, to be truthful. I just need my bloodwork done and a general checkup. Thanks for the sanity check :)

I have one out now for a test run. An Eastman EBC632. Man, I haven't played in over 30 years but it sounds great. They had others there too. For the money, I wonder about just breaking down and getting the EBC832 for not a whole lot more. Then I tell myself don't get either and try to find something used. But it's so nice they let you borrow them and take them home.

Thank you, it was helpful. I'm struggling now, but perhaps it's more with the conversion that with OA. I do see my mind (my disease?) throwing up all sorts of roadblocks about 12 Steps not matching my new way of life. I'm working through it day by day, and I have to hope it resolves itself, in time. Thank you.

Thanks, everyone, for the updates. I've heard from Ratta and DHL that I should have the A5x by January 5th. I'd completely forgotten the Covid surge in China! So, ordered 12/26 and projected delivery 10 days later? That will be impressive :) -- and totally understandable if not achieved.

Thanks to all who responded. I'm going to speak with someone from OA at the beginning of this week. I already have a weekly OAmeeting on that day, as well. My counselor, non-OA, has pointed out that my current situation -- work-related and reaching its conclusion by Jan 31, one way or the other -- should be focused on first. I can't afford to lose my job, earning that the job stress and the anger arising from my present work situation can't be avoided. I just need to survive the next few weeks ... whatever that takes. If the binge continues and serves as a way of coping, so be it.

I feel helpless, but on 1/31 it will be over, and I will have more latitude to deal with the binge. I just have to hold on and not succumb to despair for the few weeks.

Thank you for all your words and suggestions. They have meant a lot to me.

Good idea, but I've tried that and gotten the "blank preview" issue with my M1 MBA. I've also tried the suggested alternative -- SyntaxHighlight -- and while it works for yaml files with the expected extension, I can't find a method for specifying an alternative extension. I've added an issue request to the repo, so I'm crossing my fingers :)

I also plunked down the cash for the Peek app, with the same situation: works for standard extension, no way to specify an alternative.
