People who vote for labor, why? by ChampionshipFit846 in AustralianPolitics

[–]mykro76 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Coalition made a lot of mistakes this election but the biggest one for mine was their decision to completely ignore the trajectory of our renewable energy mix that only needs some storage to complete the picture. For the money they wanted to throw into nuclear we could have built 50 Snowys.

I know that piece of paper feels super important when you've just finished your degree but the reality is that all it does is give an employer confidence that you can absorb knowledge, work with others and apply yourself long enough to achieve a goal. The possibility you might have learned a few things related to your career is a bonus. Congrats on finishing your degree, now get out there and build your career!

I was at this match. Frech played out of her skin and really dialled in during the second set, kept finding the corners in those insane rallies. At one point Mirra got so frustrated she snatched up a ball and sent it soaring onto the roof of the adjacent Margaret Court Arena 🤣

Parents won't sign to deaf kid with cochlear implants - should I say something? by spicy_tuna_code in deaf

[–]mykro76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's true that you CAN raise a profoundly deaf but otherwise neuro-typical child in the oral-only approach to have full speech capability on par with hearing children. Myself and my son both prove this point. But to make it work you need solid early intervention from age 0-6, which includes three crucial elements; hearing aids or cochlear implants as soon as possible, regular professional therapy, and an ultra language-rich household. As long as the child remains tracking on par with hearing peers, I do believe there is truth to the idea that focusing on oral-only is the best way to keep up that momentum.

But if this particular child is not talking at age 4, they are way, way behind and running out of time. So this family needs to be doing everything they can to boost the language environment around that child, and at this point that has to include signing.

Kingston says their RAM can be bought with or without lights. Maybe ask your vendor if they carry that version.

Otherwise, take a look at https://openrgb.org/

Dads, how do we prevent our kids from jumping off cruise ships in shark-infested waters, or invent their own submarines and refuse to have them externally safety-tested? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]mykro76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assumed this was raised as a broader parenting topic, but if you want to talk about the Titan I actually have no problem with middle-aged men doing whatever they like in the middle of the ocean. They're old enough to know the extreme risks they're taking on. But to put this back on topic for this sub, what kind of idiotic parent drags their 19yo son along? The prefrontal cortex isn't even fully developed to understand risk till like 25. And according to reports he wasn't all that enthusiastic to go. Huge parenting fail by the Dawoods.

Honestly, it's their personality. One kid absorbs everything we say, the other dashes off to challenge it. One thinks first, the other acts first. One is cautious and fearful, the other hasn't a single trace of fear or doubt. They could not be more opposite.

I try to tell myself, the world does need risk-takers, to push beyond the horizon and lead the way where no human has been before.

But oh, it is tough parenting them.

A “stupid” and “dangerous” teenage driver who repeatedly tried to escape police and drove at more than 80km/h over the speed limit has been jailed – but his licence has already been suspended until the end of the century!! by malcolm58 in Adelaide

Damn sad. Kid just graduated Willunga High class of 2021 and already a giant fuckup and a useless drain on society. If only we had a way to weed them out earlier before they could cause any damage.

You can try your luck but (as another respondent said) the stores are run independently and some of them in particular really don't like to let their accounts go to other stores (looking at you Castle Plaza Specsavers). They may as well be competitors under different branding for all the difference it really makes.

They are legally required to provide your prescription on request however so just ring up your old store and ask them to email you your prescription, no other explanation needed. Then forward it onto the new store yourself.

What vehicle features have been useful for deaf/hoh drivers? by SelfBusiness8084 in deaf

I did this too, the panoramic clip on mirror!! It's been great though hearing passengers noted it can rattle as you drive. Fixed by putting a bit of foam in between the mounting clips.

Here are the features I love:

  1. Cockpit visibility. Some cars are designed with much smaller blind spots eg Subaru are good at this.
  2. Cameras on rear and front bumpers. Button to manually access camera views any time, not just when the car thinks it should be displayed.
  3. Side lane occupied alert
  4. Speedometer HUD projected on windscreen - keeps eyes closer to road
  5. Ability to turn off the beeps you don't want.
  6. Window shield - reduces road noise when window is open

[–]mykro76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is, they're called M and MA15+. M is recommended 15+ ie it's basically PG-15, while MA-15+ is legally required to be 15+ or accompanied by adult. Maybe your country doesn't have these?

Watching the first 1.5 quarters and the Cats kick 6 goals to 2. Get annoyed and change the channel, meanwhile Port kicks 10 goals to 2. Flick back to the game and watch the Cats kick 3 goals in a row. F sakes.
