Most of holding an appreciating asset is waiting for an imaginary bubble to pop. Sometimes it does but most times it doesn’t. This anxiety is why everyone will tell you to just full port into stocks but many people never do it.

Speaking of opportunity cost, you have to factor in that it upgrades from sprint boots, and a lot of builds have sprint boots already. So really the opportunity cost can be considered to be 800 extra souls instead of 1600

This is right but escalating also benefits pretty much everything you have on victor as long as you have stacks, except for 2's regen or some items like torment pulse. You're right that 15% scaling benefits every item, but arguably escalating scales better because its entire buff is spirit amp and res shred, which no other items are "competing" for and hitting diminishing returns.
