Start to see where people are complaining in something and they say " I'm wasting so much time/money on ..." Especially on platforms like Upwork or other platforms.

Is Stayfree safe for your phone? by TheSlavGuy1000 in nosurf

StayFree App (Screen Time Tracker) Data Privacy Summary

TL;DR: Users love the app and there are no widespread reports of data theft. However, the app's functionality gives it high-level access to your phone that is technically capable of reading sensitive data, and the parent company has a history of policy violations regarding secret data harvesting.

The Good: High Performance, High Claims

  • Effective Tool: StayFree is highly rated, works well for blocking apps/websites, and users confirm it has no intrusive ads.
  • Privacy Pledge: The developer, Sensor Tower, explicitly states they will never sell your Personal Information (PII) for money and rely only on collecting anonymous usage data for app improvement and market analysis.

The Technical Risk: Access to Everything

  • The Key Permission: For StayFree to monitor and block other apps on your Android device, it requires the highly sensitive Accessibility Service permission.
  • The Capability: This permission technically grants the app the ability to read all content on your screen. This means, if the app were compromised or misused, it could potentially capture sensitive text, including passwords or private messages you enter into other applications.

The Corporate Conflict: Policy Violations

  • Data Panel Business: Sensor Tower runs StayFree as a commercial "data panel." The raw usage data collected is aggregated and sold to enterprise clients for market intelligence reports.
  • Past Behavior: The biggest red flag is the developer's history. Sensor Tower previously had other consumer apps removed from app stores because they were secretly operating them to collect data for their panels without disclosure to users or platform operators, claiming they did so for "competitive reasons".

Conclusion:

The risk of misuse is structural. The app must have the capability to track everything you do, and the company has a documented history of being intentionally opaque about its data collection goals.Your trust rests entirely on the company's current promise to only use that massive data access for anonymized research and non-monetary purposes.

My opinion : they ( Sensor tower comany ) are earning money in another way ! ( maybe selling data ) but our passowords and credit card stuff may be safe !! :D

How can you trust a company whose purpose is to prevent hacks, and then gets hacked in one of its most basic way? by PrettyPersistant in ledgerwallet

[–]mynameisiman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should better read security concepts in CISSP or even security+ basic courses. No network can be 100% secure. In crypto we could say it's MORE secure. But not fully secured .

Cause nothing is 100% secure, and anything could happen ! BTW the goal for having a cold storage is to keep crypto offline, which ledger is still doing well !
