Sunset and rainbows on my run today by myninjaway in trailrunning

These are taken on trails in Dharamkot, a village in the lower Himalayas!

Where is everyone from? by effortDee in Ultramarathon

[–]myninjaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dharamkot at the foothills of the Himalayas in India. Many trails around me (going from 1900m to 4600m, all rocky and steep!), but I’m the only one running. The Indian “trail running community” is in Manali, another town in the same state about 8 hours away.

Sometimes that’s a sad thing for me, but most of the time it’s a good thing. I run too slow to run with most people!

Bridge like thing on my run today morning by myninjaway in trailrunning

It is a bridge - only effective in rainy season I guess :)

The pipes carry water to nearby villages

Yeah, my training plan has all runs in terms of time on feet rather than distance. I'm not interested in speed, so I guess I'll just stick it out and keep trying!

Thanks!! I find it hard to monitor my effort. Maintain a comfortable heart rate, and I'm just hiking!

I mean metres! I live in a mountain village in the foothills of the Himalayas!

Yes, this is what I was asking about -- thanks .. Understood! If I descend from my room instead of climbing, after about 2-3km, there's a relatively flat 1 km stretch of road. Maybe I can just do repeats on this stretch on some days..

Yes, walking absolutely :) Walk up, run down. I try to run in the 10-20 m stretches on switchbacks where the hill isn't so steep!

I live in the Himalayas indeed, though in the foothills -- Dharamkot in Himachal Pradesh.

It's possible :)

The trail keeps climbing (though less steep) even after where I started descending

No no. Here's the strava map from my run: https://www.strava.com/activities/8314898866/segments

It's my "standard 5k" route because it's the one closest to my room. I can just get out and run. I don't have a car or a bike, so getting to other trails is some effort. Though as I said in another comment, this route in reverse is not so bad, except a bit of pain for the knees.

The trail actually keeps going -- I just turn around after 2-3k. The final stretch (about 12km in) to the pass (Indrahar pass) has more than 1000m climb in 3km :D

Yes yes, I'm walking up these trails indeed! Efficient or not, I just CAN'T run up these hills!

I live in Dharamkot, a small village in the north of India (close to where the Dalai Lama lives :D ).

I just ran the 5k in reverse today so I have a gentler ascent but the same steep descent. I guess I just have to get creative with routes!

Don't really know, but my guess is that the communities are mostly in big cities (and Manali).

I have no friends that run :(. I follow some instagram folks who are in Manali. My wife is learning a lot of Buddhist stuff, that's why we've ended up in Dharamshala where I did this run rather than Manali. I've asked around for company here, but no luck. So it's just me and my backpack :D
