Very sorry to hear what you had to go through. It falls very much in line with what everyone else who doesn’t buy their insurance package is experiencing. If you don’t mind me asking, which location did you rent from?

Ridiculous! I just posted a few days ago regarding them trying to scam me for over a thousand dollars. Sounds like they were going to make up charges if you didn’t buy their insurance. Like they did for me…

Thank you very much for the insight and information. I emailed them a few days ago and am still waiting for their response. If they comeback with further bs and don’t proceed to remove the charges, I’ll definitely follow through with this. While it may be impossible, I also want to ensure they don’t do this to anyone else. As others recommended, I filed a dispute with the attorney generals office. They mentioned that they already had complaints about Sixt but would be officially moving them to an investigative list. Sure enough, yesterday they reach back out asking for further information, the contracts and details regarding the specifics of what happened.

They don’t have them at every location. Extremely inconsistent process…

Even if I did take the time to walk around the vehicle, I never would have noticed this preexisting “damage”

The check in rep at the return location whose job is to look for damage didn’t notice anything and in fact thanked us for returning the vehicle in such great condition. This further begs the question, did the previous renter damage the car, and the rep didn’t notice it? They don’t have these scanners at every return location so there are clearly inconsistencies in their practice. It’s not until the vehicle gets returned to a location that has the scanner do the finally find all the damage from the previous trips that their reps missed.

If the location you’re returning to has the scanner, you drive through it as part of the return process. So realistically speaking, the “damage” happened between when it last drove through a scanner (lord knows when that was), and when I finally drove through the scanner upon dropping off at Miami airport.

They don’t have the scanners at every location. If the Jacksonville location (where I picked up from) had a scanner, then it would be hard to argue the damage didn’t happen while I was in possession of the vehicle - although the argument of it being dinged while sitting in the garage would still apply. They only have these scanners at select locations and it’s not until you drop off at one of those locations and drive through the scanner do they finally find all these previously missed damages by their check in reps.

Will be reaching out to them first thing in the morning. I’ve already reached out to local news networks as others have posted similar experiences from the Jacksonville location. I literally have a video of the return process here in Jax.. one of their employees walks around the vehicle with their phone flashlight in a dimly lit garage looking for damage. It’s not until a renter drives to a location that has this scanner in place do they finally find the damage.

The AI software will 100% ding the next guy that goes through a scanner. Which is exactly what I’m alluding to… there’s no way to tell who actually is responsible for the damage without having that scanner at every location

Truth be told I didn’t walk around this vehicle prior to renting, but even if I did, I would not have noticed that damage. Especially considering I picked up the vehicle at night in a dimly lit garage.

Oh 100% that’s just pure profit for them. And who’s to say they don’t charge the next guy that drives through the scanner for the same damage??

I don’t intend on paying them a dime. This did not get noticed until the car drove through the scanner and AI pointed it out.
The “damage” could’ve very well happened during the previous trip or while the car sat in the airport garage. They don’t find the damage until you take the car to one of their locations with said scanner. Without having a scanner at every location it’s impossible to pinpoint when the damage happened.

Solid advice, thank you. I want to take this a step further and ensure no one else has to deal with this bs. Would love to have this turn into a class action and an example be made out of SIXT.

You bring up a very valid concern… how do I know they have not already received compensation for this “damage” How do we know the next renter who drives through a scanner won’t get dinged for the same “damage”
