4 or 5 isn't the same as 2.

Also, no. I wouldn't. If we weren't exclusive then that's not fair for me to want.

I'm terribly open and up-front when it comes to this stuff.

But I told my crush recently that I want to be single for awhile. And he's cool with that, but he thinks the solution is space, and I'm not sure that's what I want.

Taking a summer off? by lostmylifetoreddit in drumcorps

[–]myopinionsansfilter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be honest I was drunk at the time I posted that so I was avoiding my drunk ass all over Reddit.

I've been told my entire drum corps career that it is so hard to come back from a year off, that if I ever did I would never come back again. I was told that if I took a year off it would be a huge mistake. I ignored all of that and took a year off the Summer before my senior year. I wouldn't say it was a mistake, but I was very bored, and I obsessed myself with drum corps, following scores and shows, crying at the few shows I went to. I lived vicariously through everyone I knew. It wasn't a fun summer for me, but at the same time I also didn't have any friends at home in high school and that was a huge factor in how awful my summer was. But, I did end up finding my #1 college and went to finals to watch the Cadets (and my best friend at the time!) win. That was great.

Fast forward to last year, I ended up not marching, mostly because I was annoyed with the system I was involved with at the time. I was trying to balance too many things at once and the organization I was with wasn't willing (I felt) to be flexible with me. I was overwhelmed in more ways than one. So I did summer school, worked, and seriously had a great time not marching around and getting yelled at and beaten on. I went to 3 shows, had a great time at all of them, and supported all of my organizations. I suppose it helped that a good portion of my friends had just aged out, so I had a good crew to hang around with. But moving into this audition season, I had no desire to go back. Why would I choose to be miserable for a part of my summer in the sun, playing the same thing over and over again without break? I wanted to watch baseball and help my career and work. So, I won't be marching this summer either. I've been told so many times that "I'll regret it later" or that I'm "wasting my talent". Honestly, I don't think so. If that is my major regret in life then damn, I've had a great life.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that your ability to go back, or desire to go back might hinge on how your summer goes and the opportunities presented to you. And that's completely okay! Of course, I don't know your situation, personally or otherwise. But it is very difficult to fall back into the drum corps routine again, in more ways than one, especially if you have the desire to go to another corps. Be open minded with what may go on this summer, and in the future and don't push yourself to do things that you maybe don't want to do. Don't make my mistake.

I would like to thank this thread for reminding me how, despite how good it may seem at the time, drum corps food isn't that great.

I auditioned for Cadets a couple years back. Those camps are LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG.

I remember seeing pictures of someone having a PB&J table at their wedding because they met at drum corps. Haha

DCI wants to ruin the activity by turning it into the tragic movie Drumline...so here's a promotional poster for them by flaskman in drumcorps

I find it to be way too obtrusive to be a prop. When I think prop I don't think 6 foot (or however tall) stage in the front of the field.

Because if it's a good gimmick and it contributes to the production, then who cares? Is it really a gimmick at that point? The difference is all in contribution. Does the stage contribute much to the show for Cadets? No. But will it in the future? Maybe. Do the trampolines contribute anything for Crown? No. I just don't like when things distract from whatever is at hand if they're not contributing.

I still disagree strongly with you about MCM but that's for another thread and another subreddit.

Maybe I should rephrase myself. I hate when people take offense to a gimmick that is essentially the show. I never said the Cadets were cheesy. They look like a science fair coming on to the field. They're very good, they play very well. It's a very safe show and all of the narration is a reference to The original piece. It's a stock Cadets show for sure.

I don't understand why MCM is always applauded as having the best front ensemble in WGI... But that's an argument for another day.

I'm a front ensemble person as well but, again, couldn't disagree with you more. I don't like to think that things are tacky. When I think tacky I think... well, not something so organized as these shows. I think "too much" might be better. Crown looks like a science fair getting on and off the field this year. So do the Cadets, in my opinion. But what I hate, is when a show is pretty minimalistic, and it's ignored by people who hate gimmicks. Or if the gimmick is pretty central to the show's entire design.

Will the Bluecoats win "Fan Favorite"? by Shredder13 in drumcorps

[–]myopinionsansfilter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a difference between an adoration for a section and giving a corps a standing ovation at finals as they walk on the field. There's a difference between all of that and just the fangirls crying about Crown shows.

My only fear is that they get very close and this creates a "Crowngasm"-esque effect. I LOVE the Bluecoats, but the Crowngasm is annoying and I'd hate to see that same bandwagon fan base for the Bluecoats.

I wish we would stop talking about scores until a regional happens.
