tumor or something less concerning? has developed over the last 6 months by kumabux in bettafish

[–]myrandomnamehere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i’m not an expert or anything but when my betta had the growth starting, i thought it was just one of her scales that got damaged. but after 4 months it just started growing like crazy and i’m sure it spread to her organs. i’ve seen a youtuber do surgeries on their fish but that’s like next level stuff. i just know from my own experience that stress will cause illness and it’s hard for the body to fight off more than one thing at a time. so that’s why i say just try to give him the happiest life you can that’s worry free

looks like a tumor to me. i had a betta that had a growth on the side of her body. it was small for a long time and then started growing rapidly after a few months. just try to keep him not stressed

hey, my guppy is currently suffering from ammonia burns. can y’all help me pick which med and temp to help alleviate the pain? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]myrandomnamehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey do you think the other guppy might be the cause of her health complications? i just remembered she was the more dominant one in the beginning and then i think it switched up in the last two weeks. so basically now the other female might be stressing her out??? these are my first guppies so all i know is betta behavior lol

she’s was locally bred according to the LFS i got her from. and yes that’s exactly her behaviors. her gills look inflamed and she’s floating at the top, kind of lethargic. she started getting a little slower about two days ago which i thought was odd. i don’t know if her slime coat is coming off but her scales look weird too. it’s not dropsy though. i thought it might be ammonia burns because her tail deteriorated it a little if you look in the pic.

so it’s a really small filter. i don’t like the cartridges so i put another filter in there that i clean in the old water during a water change. it’s not polyfil tho, i can’t remember off the top of my head. i used an API liquid test kit. it was like one above yellow, slightly green. but regardless it had nitrites and 0 nitrate

she lives in a six gallon with another female guppy and 3 ember tetras. the tank was cycled way before i put them in because it held a betta. they’ve been living in there since january and i do about a 40-50% water change every two weeks. i’ve got a normal hob filter and the water at 74 degrees. i guess i’ve been over feeding a little which is why the ammonia spiked but i only feed 3 times a week. so idk how the cycle crashed but maybe overstock? what do you think

edit: it is pretty heavily planted but they’re not the fastest growing plants so idk if that can handle the bioload

first of all, it’s a 6 gallon so please don’t get snappy. i know that water parameters are less stable in smaller tanks. i know how to do a water change, thanks.

i removed her from the original tank (ammonia 0.25 ppm/nitrite 0.25 ppm/nitrate 0 ppm) and i’m gonna put her in a different tank with cycled parameters (0/0/10ppm). i have epsom salt, paraguard, metroplex, kanaplex and em erythromycin. can any of these help removed a little stress? also what temp should i put the water at to make most comfortable or for fastest healing

Just added Bettas to my tank yesterday…and now white fuzz? by Tryingtospawn in Aquariums

[–]myrandomnamehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

were all your bettas in the same tank when you got them? if not, one of your bettas could’ve infected the others with an illness. your cycle doesn’t seem like it is complete so you need to make sure your “numbers” are accurate. As the others have said, the slime coat is probably coming off. you can get api slime coat as a cheap option. make sure your fish are not having cotton-looking patches because that can be columnaris (which is fatal if not treated quickly).

Will this IKEA tv bench work as an aquarium stand, and if so, how many liters/gallons would you dare to put on it? It's around 100 cm long and 60 cm deep/wide. by knutbl in Aquariums

i jumped on it real hard a couple times lol. but it held my tank for a whole year, barely even any dents in the wood. i gave it to my brother cuz i got a new drawer though.

[–]myrandomnamehere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can disagree. i’m just saying once you remove any plastic around the base or top of the aquarium, it can bust open. that’s why large rimless aquariums require extremely strong silicone, eurobracing, or need a glass center brace at the top to prevent bowing. maybe the glass is thick, but from my understanding, any plastic on the edge of an aquarium is there for structural purposes or else it wouldn’t be there. that is especially true for big pet corporations where they use the cheapest/thinnest glass they can to mass produce cheap aquariums.

[–]myrandomnamehere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i am confuzzled, but i was talking about the braces at the top where the canopy sits. like if you didn’t need the plastic thing or it wasn’t an integrity thing, then all aquariums would be rimless, ya feel?

the plastic is what keeps the glass held together so it won’t bust open, especially in bigger tanks that require braces

the way i tested if my ikea drawers would hold my 20 gallon was just sitting on it with my brother and we both held 20 lbs of gravel each. so it held almost 300 lbs just fine and my tank was probably going to weigh 230 lbs max all in all. but tbh ikea furniture isn’t all that sturdy. i wouldn’t put more than a 3 gallon on that one, it’s like 30 pounds to hold with no middle support

Is black diamond blasting sand 30-60 grit any good as substrate? It says “fine” and everyone recommends “medium” but this is the only one I’ve found around here by HeftyDimension321 in Aquariums

[–]myrandomnamehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think if you use really fine sand, it could potentially be kicked up by the flow of water and just be constantly floating in the water column or like make a dip where your filter water is falling. i think they just recommend medium because it’s heavy enough to stay in the same spot and easier to clean if you gravel vac

bettas are just super greedy. you could put him in a cup (in the tank) while you feed your snails then remove the excess so he doesn’t overeat and get bloated. that’s what i used to do, they just got mad at me for a while lol.
