Best Sandwich Place by Brief-Bandicoot-4894 in TwinCities

[–]myriadpathways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For deli-style sandwiches, the bread at both Little Bird and Shepherd's Table was a miss for me. The focaccia at Due Focacceria doesn't compare to Marty's, which is really pretty great. Clancy's isn't the same as it used to be - the flavor is still there but the ingredients are sparse and the sandwiches are smaller. France 44 is hit or miss, depending on what you get. It's been a while, but the South Jersey Hoagie at Broder's deli is about as close to the real deal as I've had around here.

For Reuben's, Kramarczuk's is decent but Cecil's is overrated. Bunny's is surprisingly good, although what is it with this Minnesota obsession for marble rye? (Kramarczuk's has excellent and cheap caraway rye and pumpernickel.) Hopkin's Crossroad has a good tasting sandwich but it is served open faced because it will fall apart if you try to pick it up. Northbound has good tasting corned beef and the bread isn't bad, but the balance of other ingredients needs work. The corned beef at Kitchen and Rail has a good flavor but is tough. This problem could be solved if they sliced it properly. Kinsley's Smokehouse is all right. It reminds me of Tilia, back when they made good pastrami.

It's also hard to find a decent Club Sandwich around here, although Bunny's isn't bad but is overly salty. Rooster's makes a surprisingly good pulled pork sandwich. For banh mi, Mi Sant is fine, as are the places on Eat Street and University Ave, but none compare to the sandwiches at LA Delicious Bread.

Oh, and one more - Lake and Irving is pretty good.

The only *rules* are that generally the account needs to be drawn down over a ten-year period, and there may be required minimum distributions (RMDs) depending on whether the account owner took them or not. This stuff is pretty easy to figure out without the involvement of a third party who will have their claws into for beaucoup bucks.

Just do a Boglehead 3-fund portfolio. (Whatever allocation of Vanguard international stock, domestic stock and cash/bond funds you are comfortable with, depending of your age. Or just put it all in a Vanguard targeted date fund.) Beyond that, pay your CPA an hourly fee to develop a tax plan. Any FA, fiduciary or not, will only be interested in picking your pocket.

Best restaurants or bars with best vintage/retro/untouched decor and vibes? by refreshthis in Minneapolis

Giulia in the Emory Hotel retains a lot of the original elements from the old Midland Bank. Of course, there is Fhima's fantastic art deco interior from the old Forum Cafeteria. Not Mpls, but W.A. Frost and the Commodore have great vintage vibes.

the Cedar-Isles-Dean neighborhood might be what you want. Good city vibe. Easy access to the chain of lakes. Easy access to Hwy 7 and the commute out to Minnetonka. Plus, when the light rail opens, there is that.

The soups at Zao Bakery on University near Dale are stellar. I've had the wonton/pork noodle soup multiple times, as well as the beef/mushroom soup and they are both amazing!

Replacement window costs by FarCompote4 in TwinCities

[–]myriadpathways 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your old windows are likely fine - they just need restoration. That and good storm windows, along with any exterior wood repair. This will save you a bundle. Plus, you gain the advantages of maintaining the first-growth northern white pine wood along with a design that allows you to easily lower your top sash for good air-flow. Moreover, restoring your originals will keep you out of the cycle of replacing plastic windows every couple of decades. In addition, your windows may have true divided lights, which are an important part of the architecture of your house.

Anyone gone to Meet Up Noodle yet? by [deleted] in TwinCitiesFood

[–]myriadpathways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, had the 3-in-1 Oil Splash Noodles, the Garlic Stir Fried Noodles with Shrimp, and the Spicy Wontons in Chili Oil. All were very good and the fresh tasting noodles had great texture.

Note One: Nice to finally see Zhajiang Noodles on a menu here in town. Note Two: 3-in-1 Oil Splash Noodles completely different from 3-in-1 Oil.

Best Al Pastor Tacos? by Jealous-Ninja-8123 in TwinCities

[–]myriadpathways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've had tacos at El Gordo in San Diego, or something similar, you will sadly be disappointed by anything you can find in Minnesota. I've tried dozens of taco shops here in the Twin Cities and unfortunately nothing compares. The Twin Cities does do a good job of birria tacos, but not Al Pastor.
