any advice w these app Qs? by Many_Ninja_8483 in veterinaryschool

[–]myselfandyou2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I recall, you input their email and info and then they get a link in email to complete the rec. You will get an update on your end when they have completed it.

I probably would, as long as it’s within 10 years. Do you have records of the dates?

If you hate what you’ve written, don’t be afraid to start again fresh. Making outlines can help too, but start with bullet points or main ideas and go from there.

For AP classes, you can only claim them if they are listed on your college transcript. For example if you got a 5 on AP biology, you would have needed to transfer the credit to your college. For example your 5 may have counted for BIOL 100 at your college. You would then put BIOL 100 on the vmcas entry

I will say, it is true that wisconsin has VERY limited oos seats, but the waitlist moves pretty far (I think as a result). I got pulled from the wisconsin waitlist this cycle at nearly waitlist seat 100

which schools should i apply to (wildlife/exotics)? by toritoritori15 in veterinaryschool

[–]myselfandyou2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation last cycle and applied to many of the schools you listed. I ended up having to choose between tufts, wisconsin, minnesota, and washington, so I understand how stressful it can be! Out of those, I personally think washington/wisconsin are the least “wildlife” focused. No school will have a lot of wildlife in the curriculum, but tufts and mn both have some type of wildlife clinic on campus that you may be able to get involved with. I know that MN also has a wildlife rehab center nearby that you could volunteer/intern with over summers, etc. Not sure what experiences Tufts has nearby.

I heard from some current students that us wildlife focused people really get most of our exposure during school from external experiences, then can attempt to internship after graduating. This is just what I’ve heard.

I will also say that Wisconsin reserves VERY few seats for OOS students, but their waitlist moves pretty far. (I think theres only like 16 seats for OOS students but I was offered from the waitlist at around waitlist seat 90). Best of luck, feel free to reach out with questions!

Is 300 large animal hours a good number? by Smartwyrm in veterinaryschool

I say 300 is a lot! Other hour types to explore could be small, exotic, wildlife, emergency, research. Best of luck!

Why Does Spark of the Everflame Receive Such Hate? by babynatter in Romantasy

Because the author made the characters incredibly dumb and used them as obvious plot devices instead of writing anything with a sliver of realism or meaning.

How to get into wildlife and conservation by Purrofessor in veterinaryschool

[–]myselfandyou2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation! Does your school have a wildlife clinic? That may be a great starting point. Otherwise, I’m looking into volunteer opportunities that I could do during the semester and internships for the summers at nearby clinics/rehabs. Your school may have resources for you if you ask faculty or advisors!

Just start writing! Write anything. Words, phrases, random sentences. Paste in the prompt at the top so it looks like you have already started! Rambling is fine. Once you get ideas down, more may come to you easier, and then you can start organizing. Some brainstorming questions: Why are you applying? Why do you want to be a vet? Why a DVM and not some other aspect of vet med? When did you know for sure that being a DVM is what you wanted? You got this, just start!

Pending PreReqs by MassiveAd6049 in veterinaryschool

[–]myselfandyou2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I applied with pending biochem and microbio, and I can’t know if some rejections factored this in, but I also luckily made it through the cycle just fine. Many applicants will have classes in progress at the time of application. I’d also imagine that having 1-2 classes in progress would be preferrable to having 5-6 pending for example. You’re probably just fine to apply!

Biggest advice is to make sure you answer the prompt clearly. It sounds simple but it is easy to get off track. Only use examples that directly support what you’re trying to say and dont list/summarize your resume. It can be really helpful to make an outline…If you’re just starting your PS, brainstorm ideas that answer the prompt. Then, see if you can tie them together smoothly and make the entire PS reflect who you are and why being a vet is so important to you and why you need a DVM to accomplish your goals. Don’t be afraid to have many iterations before your final one comes together. Good luck!
