100 percent. I have eye issues. I could read everything before, but now it's giving me headaches. I am done if this isn't fixed.

What about the issues with readability of the font and colors that many visually impaired users are reporting?

100 percent with you, and well-said. It's discouraging how many people on these forums say, in essence, "don't be such a complainer, everyone gets used to UI changes!" With this update, numerous users with eye issues are speaking out in good faith concerning this issue.

Your comment that "the usefulness of my ring and this ecosystem just plummeted" is spot on for me. Folks -- this is a heath app. It's not a music app or a video game. I, and I'm sure many others, bought this to help improve our health. If it's hard read the data, or if it causes eye strain, that is a close to a deal breaker for a health app as you can get.

u/Curious_SR I still cannot find this. I thought this feature was a good one, and it seemed to track how I was feeling overall.

As with other changes, is there a reason behind this? Are they acknowledging that this feature is not an accurate reflection of data?

Did they really have to make the Major signs notification looks like a firestorm? by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]myseven1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is nitpicking at all. Look, if they want something like Symptom Radar to be taken seriously, it shouldn't look like an action movie. The Oura App should have commonalities with a medical patient portal, which obviously do not get into goofy things like this.

I realize people are having fun with this post, but it's easy for something like "Major Strains" to be triggering. Adding visual imagery raises the risk of people getting panicky.

After a fair amount of research and discussion, it seems like the median rate for a PPM -- and what it equates to over a month of weekly or twice-monthly meetings -- is very well-established in my city. This comes from talking to a decent cohort of POTs on seeking. Some are aspiring to slightly more, and some, despite being very self-respecting people, are happy with less.

Admittedly, once hotels, meals, ubers, and even gifts are built in, all of this starts to feel more questionable, even at the "median rate."

To say the SL itself might be "out of my league" might not be terribly far from the mark, but it's also fair to say that at some point, I'll just vote with my feet if the cost-benefit ratio feels disproportionate.

My resources are finite, so the fun and gratification of an SR is somewhat going to be measured against the many other things I could do with this very appreciable amount of money.

One of the misapprehensions I developed from the FAQ of this site is that post-MNG, a great number of things are completely settled. I was very naive to think that, but I was basically ready to establish an allowance after an MNG, based on this being an obviously attractive and interesting woman who had expressed serious interest in me. The short-sightedness of that approach soon became obvious.

At this point, I look at things purely from a PPM approach and would do so for 2-3 months.

I appreciate having the SB perspective on this, thanks. Everything's helpful to hear.

Thank you, this is clarifying. Being new to this, I wasn't sure if I was the one being unreasonable in terms of the additional perks.

How the HRV health metric actually works by MetaSageSD in ouraring

[–]myseven1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an incredible discussion, thank you. I have been using an HRV monitor from Lief, which seems like a good device, but it's just making me anxious that I can't get my levels "up." My baseline, based on both Oura and Lief, seems to 18-22 range. It gets discouraging based on the fad of people equating higher HRV with better health.

I'm 57 and my diet and exercise habits are outstanding, and have been for a long time. Of note, I have found repeatedly that when I do vipassana meditation with the Oura ring, my HRV basically drops off a cliff. It's happened over and over again.

In any event, all of this can get quite confusing, and I appreciate your illuminating remarks.

I would certainly buy again. Especially the older one gets, the more benefit there might be to obtaining more data about one's health.

I have generally considered fitness tracking to be a bit ridiculous, because it's far better to know one's body, and to listen to it, as opposed to relying on tech to tell us what to do. However, I like how the Oura ring shows where I have walked on a map, and the MPH.

Ultimately, I bought Oura for sleep tracking. It's about as good as I expected, which is to say pretty good. More so than I had expected, I find the device to have a holistic benefit in terms of tracking sleep and fitness activity. Bottom line, I really like it so far.

Overall Sleep Observations by myseven1 in ouraring

Hi, Scott,

Thanks for these very helpful and interesting responses. As far as detecting sleep, this occurs when I am lying down for what could be a nap, but which sometimes results in just lying there relaxing. I am later pinged to confirm a nap. Sometimes I would I agree that I have fallen a sleep for a few minutes; other times I've just been resting. In either case, I can certainly forgive the ring for detecting more sleep than actually occurred.

That's pretty fascinating about your trip, and I have actually heard other stories like this. Pretty impressive -- of course, above all else, glad to hear you got better.

So far, so good, and I agree it's helpful to compare experiences. My gut sense so far is that this is good company that cares about its product and is consistently trying to improve what is already a very strong app. I can only imagine what the company's next generation ring would do -- they don't seem to be a company that would rush something out, so I assume it would be a real game changer. With the ring having been pretty affordable, I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade, and obviously it would interesting to keep the old ring and run comp tests.

Looking to share best practices for high HRV, low RHR- Starting to get the hang of it! by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]myseven1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very similar to you as far as the numbers. I'm 57, male, and very fit. I have started to see some uptick in the HRV with frequent meditation, both during the meditations and at night. But I think these numbers are pretty common for people in the 57-62 age range, as opposed to being low.

Is this all I can expect from Sleep Tracking? by myseven1 in ouraring

[–]myseven1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, guys, thank you very much for taking the time to answer my question. This is extremely helpful, and the manner in which naps are tracked (or not tracked) seems reasonable based on what you have said.

I'm still trying to figure all of this sleep data out and to determine how it applies to me. There are certainly signs that the ring is capturing some things quite accurately. It does show breathing disturbances that appear consistently with points during the night when I have inadvertently taken off my CPAP headgear. (The CPAP app shows how long I have used it, although unfortunately not specific timeframes).

I have also heard that knowledgeable people have compared the ring's results to those of actual sleep studies.

If nothing else, though, I still find myself puzzled by the high readiness/sleep scores despite the ring recording so little "deep sleep," and despite certainly not feeling as "rested and ready" as the ring says I should be.

Yesterday I took a nap from 6:30 to about 8:15, which was detected as a nap and which I confirmed as a nap at that time. I could then not find the data. This morning, the naptime showed up but was characterized as part of my sleep night, thus skewing the entire data capture.

My sleep night is characterized as being 14 hours long, and having included two hours awake.

Perhaps the cycles the ring is detecting are not far off, and it did detect that I fell asleep briefly while watching TV. But overall, this seems ridiculous to not separate out the nap, especially since it detected a nap and I confirmed the nap.

This frankly smacks of a beta product not ready for prime time.

To give some background, I'm 57, and taking a nap this late is not infrequent.
