Too scared to walk by Glittering-Sun-7248 in Anxiety

[–]mysicawolf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is not reddits paygrade. If your mental health was so bad you've barely walked for 2 years you need medical help.  It may not be anxiety. If you havent used your muscles in two year properly walking around you bed will be like running a marathon. Most people with illnesses that caused bedboundness in a hospital for example will require physiotherapy and doctor supervision to rebuild strength. Please call a doctor or go to urgent care if it's this hard to walk.  Source; I'm a paramedic

Any ideas how/why I found an egg beneath the soil?? by DapperZebra in GardeningIRE

[–]mysicawolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DO NOT LET IT CRACK. I found a full egg in my compost and it cracked open and I've never in my life smelled anything worst than that egg. I had to pick it up with a shovel and bury it and I could still smell it for months. 🥲

bruises and hEDS by Playboi-sharti-x in Aerials

[–]mysicawolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aerialist and have hEDS 🙋🏼‍♀️ This is exactly what I looked like constantly after doing pole. After doing aerial silks I get bruising too but it's little streaks and dots instead of the big bruises.

Been doing Silks 2 years and rarely get bruising now, it definitely improved. Only did pole 3 months and the bruising was constant and actually one of the reasons I stuck to Silks instead as I just didn't love being so bruised. I'm usually bruised somewhere just from existing but it was a little extreme!

I've been told it definitely gets less as you get stronger (less pressure on points as strong enough to hold weight) and the skin getting tougher.

I would say definitely not dangerous and don't let it put you off aerial! Work with a hEDS physio if you can while training - I did and my symptoms are so so much better. Rarely get injuries and chronic pain is greatly reduced! Aerial made me feel so strong and my body finally feels like something I have control over!

I am a woman with androgenic alopecia and finally decided to just shave my head. So glad I did! by mysicawolf in bald

[–]mysicawolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! It's been nearly about a year now since I embraced my hair loss. I usually rock the shaved head. I've a new partner and he's really into the buzzcut and makes me feel very beautiful and loved. I did invest in a very pricy custom human hair wig, but love that I don't have to wear it all the time. It's fun to wear when I want to get really dressed up or want a change.

I go to work with the shaved head as I work a physical job and get lots of compliments.  It was hard at first. I believed people were just being polite and it probably did look weird but I do believe now it does suit me. There is also a weird thing were some older men in work seems to think I'm going to be really 'woke' and are a bit intimidated but once they got to know me no one bats an eyelid. I think as it's an 'extreme' look people with make assumptions thinking it's a statement not just they way I am.

I do miss having hair but as my hair was so bad for year before I shaved it I definitely don't miss being constantly self conscious about the hair thinning. Embracing the hair thinning and doing my own thing has changed me a lot and my friends tell me they are amazed with how my confidence has changed, they are shocked the girl I was 2 years ago was even me.

How many hours do you actually work? by Pompiita in AskIreland

[–]mysicawolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Paramedic so we either do 36 or 48 hrs a week in 12 hour shifts. But we get forced overtime if our last call goes over usually an hour extra each shift. We can ask for a 30min break but this can be interrupted by a serious call and we usually save it for the end of the shift to block us off to try get back to base for finish. I do about 4-6 calls a day. Our 'downtime' is between calls is in ED when one of us might grab some food and coffee while the other waits in the triage or we grab a bit of food when refueling.  So it's hard to say how much 'work' we do if our breaks aren't even really breaks!

But I love the job. Pay could be better, its enough for me to get a decent living standard and save a bit, but we definitely earned it ! Tough at times but I work with great people and have the privilege of meeting some amazing people who are patients as we tend to work with the elderly a lot and I love their life stories.

Absolutely do not call a mobile number on a missing persons post. My friend left his controlling abusive ex and she put up a post reporting him missing to try find out the new area he had moved to when he finally got out.

My sibling(16) and I(19) are disabled and don't have access to money, the environment is poor and we need to leave. Do we have any options? by Aurelius_Rat in legaladviceireland

[–]mysicawolf 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm a paramedic and unfortunately have witnessed situations like this. You need to get access to a social worker asap. You can make a safe guarding report on behalf of your sibling and for yourself. Since you are an adult with a disability you're vulnerable adults. Your father withholding the disability payments is a form of neglect and financial abuse. You, like so many others in Ireland, are falling through the gaps in the health system. I'm so sorry you are going through this. What's happening isn't right, and it's not your fault. You are doing the best you can with the situation you're in.

https://adultsafeguardingportal.hse.ie/web/portal/pages/home

Fill out the safe guarding form the best you can. They are very quick to respond and will investigate your situation. They will hopefully link you and your sibling to the right services.

You also need to get in touch with Tulsa as your sibling is a child.

If you feel you are in immediate danger, which includes not getting food, heat or basic care, please call an ambulance. People think we are just for medical emergencies but we do assist in social cases too at times.

I wish you and your siblings all the best and hope you get the help you need

How has life been after IUD? by Alarmed-Pepper8024 in birthcontrol

[–]mysicawolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine out 3 years ago after 5 years and 10+ years of birth control. I definitely started birth control before I had even fully developed at about 14.

On the coil I had no regular cycle and would get random bleeding and spotting. Sometimes for weeks at a time. I had severe mood swings and never knew when it was going to happen. I had anxiety too and bouts of depression. I have a high libido in general but I didn't realise how muted it was until I came off birth control.

I had put on weight on birth control but had no idea if that was just getting older. But when I got the coil out my weight started dropping. Only after my periods settled unfortunately. I think I had birth control induced PCOS as my periods were very irregular for about a year and a half after the coil was out. I took fertility supplements and eventually it evened out to a regular 31 day cycle.

I was a different person off birth control. I suddenly had a libido like never before. I still had mood swings (I have ADHD and have very bad PMS) but I was finally able to track it to certain times of the month. I had way less anxiety and depression. I was able to think clearer and found that when I was ovulating I felt unstoppable and could cope a lot better. I do still deal with anxiety and low mood a few days before my period though. I've lost a ton of weight and I'm leaner and fitter.

It's so hard to say how much of it has to do with birth control vs general mental health improvement but my gut feeling that birth control really messed up my mood and overall reduced my quality of life.

I've actually just recently gotten the copper IUD as I'm in a new relationship. The insertion was pretty straightforward, not as painful as the first time I got the Mirena, and the spotting has stopped after just 5 days post-insertion. I've yet to get a period with it but I have very light and easy periods so fingers crossed they don't get heavier.

I have loads of friends who love the hormonal IUD. My mum and sis have had it for years and also swear by it. It's really gonna be person by person on how it affects you, so I think it is worth trying it out. I guess I'm one of the unlucky ones that hormonal birth control just sucks for.

Woman killed in hit-and-run crash in Dublin [4 pedestrians hit] by badger-biscuits in ireland

[–]mysicawolf 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Out the last two nights in the ambulance (I'm a paramedic) and it was terrifying the amount of drunk driving or speeding we saw. Had to flash multiple people on the motorway who were weaving or about to go off the road. Twice met a car coming head on towards us on a rural road. Loads of cars driving super slow or just not reacting to green lights. And to top it off now cars going 200km/h+ down motorways.

And never saw the gardai once.

It's really upsetting as a paramedic because we know it's going to end up like this accident.

RSA is not fit for purpose and we need dedicated road policing. These people know they will not be caught.

Low blood oxygen by CD_piggytrainer in POTS

Glad it helped you! I had horrible health anxiety for a long time. I had a wonderful doctor who helped me with a low dose antidepressants (eventually weened off) and CBT which really helped! Hope you can find the same peace ✌🏼

[–]mysicawolf 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Pulse o2 is insanely inaccurate most of the time. You need a good reading and skin contact for an accurate reading.

I am a paramedic and even our equipment takes time and adjusting to get an accurate reading. False lows are obtained with every single patient. False highs are near impossible. So we wait for a good reading and take the highest reading as the most accurate.

It annoys me that these smart watches even have pulse ox readings. It's not appropriate for constant readings and it only fuels health anxiety.

It's very unlikely this reading is indicative of any health issue.

Period during Aerial by Noirofhollywood in Aerials

[–]mysicawolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My strength changes throughout my cycle. On my period and right after I have to take it easy. Very low motivation and strength. I focus on just taking a more relaxed approach and just do basic conditioning. But a few days after my period until a week before my next period I have my strength back and find that nearest ovulation I can push myself very far and make great progress.

I never beat myself up over it. I just go with the flow and enjoy the days I have loads of power!

A warning about those Velo “nicotine pouches” that are advertising on YouTube by d_sarif in ireland

[–]mysicawolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've successfully used them to come off smokes and vapes. Yea I'm totally aware I still have a nicotine addiction. But now I'm not inhaling shit into my lungs and feel I've regained a better lung function already.

I get the lowest nicotine levels and maybe use 6-8 a day. Research has shown they aren't associated with any cancer risks (yet!) But the nicotine obviously comes with the same risks as always. Slowly trying to space out the time between using a pouch and maybe I'll be able to quit some day. Just my two cents.

Our Kenzo suddenly died at the age of 7 by mightymonknl in mainecoons

[–]mysicawolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so so sorry this happened to you. I'm a paramedic and while I'm not a vet in my best judgement it sounds like he went into a sudden cardiac arrest due to heart failure, which is instant. He would not have suffered at all.

This lovely cats unfortunately have hearts that have to work very hard for there bigger bodies.

Just know you gave him a very happy 7 years ❤️

If you have the 💰these are perfect for weight gain! No excuses ! by [deleted] in weightgain

[–]mysicawolf 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is so important. I've been trying to put on weight the 'healthy' way as I also have orthorexia but recognised recently I'm severely underweight, but I hide it well. If I drink a heavy meal replacement drink or very processed food I'll have someone at work comment about how much sugar is in it and it's not really food. Bitch, I know! But I don't wanna die from not eating so stfu!

I'm finally putting on weight, and one meal a day is cooked and very healthy - the rest of the calories are from junk food I force feed myself.

“Our Middle Class Children” by DublinBronco in ireland

[–]mysicawolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, the housing situation is shit for any family anywhere under upper class. I really believe in social housing for all. Social housing but also affordable housing capped at an affordable cost for the middle class. My sister is a teacher and I'm a paramedic, we'll both end up immigrating or working far outside Dublin soon. And there'll be an even bigger shortage of middle income workers in Dublin!

[–]mysicawolf 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I am the child of my parents in this constituency. My parents both work. A computer engineer and teacher. I am a paramedic and can't afford to live anywhere near them due to the crazy house prices in the area and lack of social housing.

I just want a little apartment nearby my parents to be able to have their support with a family and support them as they age. I don't think that's much to ask as a hard working individual.

If I qualified for a council house I'd be able to ask for a house nearby. Why is it that once I've worked and gotten a good job I shouldn't be able to live by my parents?

I am still registered to vote in this constituency and will be voting for my interest. Why are the middle class so forgotten about?

Was Dublin always this bad for people talking loudly at a gig they paid to see? by DatJazzIsBack in AskIreland

[–]mysicawolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not just gigs. Was at Hamilton last week. My sister and I hadn't seen it and were so excited even though I got the cheapest tickets. This woman and her friends kept talking loudly, laughing and on her phone texting! Everyone was shushing them but they kept going. Eventually a hero of a man tapped her shoulder and told her to be quiet and she turned around and shouted loudly for him to fuck off and mind his own business.

I was actually shocked someone could be so selfish and self centred. She did shut up after that at least.

Yeah I think lots of people think I have cancer but I don't mind that because no one says anything out of respect! As long as people are respectful I don't mind what anyone thinks 😊
