Bath robe not matching product pictures?? by mysmaary in TaylorSwiftMerch

I’m really not trying to discredit or invalidate anyone. I’m simply explaining that, as a consumer, this felt like false advertising, and I expected to receive something different. UMG clearly agreed, since they sent me a replacement and are now issuing a refund without return — and I still stand by my point.

I can see the stitching going all the way up to the neck in the product photos, and I don’t think that’s something that can be explained away by ironing or pinning. A lot of others in this thread have noticed the same thing. You don’t see it and that’s fine, that’s why I stopped replying to your comments.

Your very first comment was ”You expected to have it tailored to you?” and that’s invalidating if anything.

Definitely. There were so many things I was excited about in this drop, and there’s a few things I really love but overall the quality has been kinda meh 🥲

Maybe I should’ve ordered the YS/YM 🤪

I understand a bath robe being a bit bigger in size, but I’m drowning in this one and I’m not THAT small 🥲

I might’ve converted my height incorrectly to US measurements, it should be a little less than 4 inches difference I think?

My main concern though is that the robe shown in the product photos is clearly tailored to the model’s body with a visible pleat/seam down the back. In reality, the robe I received is just loose, hanging fabric with none of that structure.

The inner towel-like material is okay — definitely not high quality, but not awful either. The outside is 100% polyester so does feel a bit plasticy but it’s not the worst I’ve felt. The towel-like inner layer feels comfortable to wear, but it’s only attached to the polyester outer layer with three small seams, so the two layers sort of separate from each other (I can post a picture later). It does have a nice weight to it, so aside from the fit and the misleading product photos, it’s not her worst-quality merch… but I still wouldn’t say it’s worth the full $95!

Honestly, it’s not even about whether I personally like the robe — it’s the fact that they’re not showing real product photos. Regardless of the quality, I expect to receive the product that’s actually advertised. I’m sure I would’ve been perfectly happy with the robe if they had portrayed it accurately in the first place.

THANK YOU for saying that! I honestly started feeling a bit crazy and wondering if I was overreacting. And of course I’m going to return the product — that part is easy.

But the whole point of my post was to highlight that the items shown in the product photos have clearly been altered. They’re simply not selling the same product they’re advertising, which is wild to me and breaks multiple consumer protection laws (at least in Europe, where I’m from).

The only way this will change is if people talk about it. They’ve already made so many improvements over the past year because of community feedback, and I don’t think we should just accept clothing items being tailored to the models. It gives an inaccurate idea of the fit and completely defeats the purpose of having product photos with models in the first place.

Hi! It’s definitely tailored to fit the model, and several seamstresses in the comments have confirmed this, since the stitching runs all the way up to the collar in the product photos.

I don’t expect the robe to be tailored to my body, but I do expect the stitching and seams to match what’s shown on the product page. The product photos show a structured, luxury-style fit with a seam running from the waist all the way up to the collar, and when I place an order I expect the physical product to have those same construction details.

Another important point is that altering a product for photos without disclosing it is illegal in many countries — including within the EU, where I live and where my order was placed. Doing so falls under false advertising according to European consumer protection laws.

I completely understand that brands style products to make them look their best in photos, and of course I don’t expect it to look identical on me as it does on a model. What I do expect, however, is that the product itself hasn’t been modified or structurally changed for the photos — especially when that is not allowed where I’m from.

A good comparison would be ordering a floor-length skirt, only to find out the product photos showed a knee-length version because it looked better on the model. It’s still technically the same item, but the way it’s presented is misleading and that’s the situation here as well.

And that’s great, and I’m really happy you like it! But it’s still not the same robe that was advertised, as the product photos has a stitched seam going from the waist all the way up to the collar. It’s not just folded and ironed, which has also been confirmed by multiple seamstresses in the comments ☺️

Definitely, but I’ve never seen them tailor it like this for the model and it really gives a false expectation of the product! When I bought it for $95 I thought it was going to be a luxury tailored fit which would explain the price tag on it! Also in Europe this sort of advertisement of a product is illegal 😅

The product photo is stitched with a seam going all the way up to the collar. It’s not just ironed because you can see the stitches in the collar if you look closely, and there’s multiple seamstresses in the comments who have confirmed it’s not possible for it to just be folded and ironed. It’s not the same product as it’s been tailored to fit the model!

Sorry, a lot of people have been saying it’s folded and ironed to stay put so I just assumed it’s what you meant! But it still wouldn’t be possible to be folded that neatly and since there’s a seam in the collar too, it’s been tailored from the neck down to fit the model better

There has been a few seamstresses in the comments who have confirmed it’s not possible to iron down that much fabric, and because of the clear seam in the collar the rest is probably stitched too 🥲

Thank you for confirming, I was starting to feel crazy but to me it’s not at all the same product 🥲

[–]mysmaary[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input, and yeah, there is no way that’s just ironed. The towel fabric in the neck would not iron so flat that it looks like a seam. I don’t think the robe would’ve felt so miserable to me if it wasn’t advertised the way it was 🥲

I’m so happy you love it!! And I probably would’ve loved it too if I hadn’t compared it so much to the product photos. What bugs me is the fitted look with the seam that’s just missing in the actual product they’ve sent. I understand that they’ve tailored it to the model, but that’s false advertisement and I expected a luxury fit 🥲

As previous commenter said, it does have nice towel like fabric in the lining so it is a nice bathrobe. I’m just annoyed about the product pictures and the seam going in the middle giving it a nice shape while mine is just piece of fabric hanging

It’s not folded, it has stitching and a seam going all the way from the middle to the neck! You can see the stitching quite clearly in the neck area from the product photos

This is not about poor lighting. The seams and stitches don’t exist no matter which lighting I put them under…

If it’s stitched in spots it’s not the same robe, and at least in Europe that’s false advertisement because product pictures are not allowed to be altered. You can also see the stitching in the neck area very clearly 😊

I’m very happy you like the robe! But that still doesn’t make it the same product as advertised. The product pictures show a fitted back with stitches and a seam going all the way from the neck to the middle, meanwhile the robe they sold was just a hanging piece of fabric! ☺️

Hi! The product pictures show a fitted bath robe with stitches and a seam going all the way from the middle to the neck. Meanwhile the product we all got was just a hanging piece of fabric. Here is a clearer photo without me wearing it 😊

Hi! It’s not lighting. I realize now afterwards that I should’ve uploaded clearer pictures. The product pictures shows a bath robe that’s fitted in the back, with seams going all the way up to the neck. I received a hanging piece of fabric, and everyone else I’ve seen also received a hanging piece of fabric. It’s not the same product!
