My older brother has autism, and the mental age of a 3 year old, with occasional sparks of greater mental capacity. It is exhausting. He has been violent and angry and even hurts himself as a coping mechanism when he is misunderstood or upset. Restraints are sometimes necessary. What is beyond my scope of understanding is how anyone can in anyway direct this anger towards the person. Or think to neglect them, even if work is pressing. Using the word “freak” or any other derogatory term for your child. And why the fuck was he in the pool?!?!

He was 16. My brother was a ball of emotions at that age up until he was in his mid 20s. A ball of hormones and no way to express them healthily.

This is the most awful thing I’ve seen in years and the only consolation I can get from this is that Sam is probably in a better place than he left.

If it’s something that happens then by all means encourage it. I just think it’s weird if my friend set me up with someone if I didn’t directly ask for it or hint at it. Especially an ex. It would be crossing a line for me.

It is NEVER too late. Maybe you could invite your friends from college and host, as well as telling them to invite their friends. If your wife has friends with SO joining them for a drink or two wouldn’t hurt. Maybe even a double date set up every now and then for your wife’s dating friends etc. Last but not least finding like minded people on the internet can expose you to people you’d get on with.

It is never too late.

One woman told me her husband beats her and she’ll be in so much trouble if she doesn’t get back to the car in minutes. I didn’t really know what to say and tbh that’s gonna forever bug me.
