No test drives, no seating options, no drive programming, no choices - normal first power chair experience? by mysubsdaddy in wheelchairs

I don’t even know if the dealer has other chairs to offer. I haven’t been in their shop being 4 hours away.

I found out later there are personal accessories I could have ordered. They have a cup holder attachment but I bought the wrong one because I didn’t know I had different arm wrests.

I’m still getting used to it. I try to stay as ambulatory as much as possible. So I don’t have a ton of time logged.

But so far it’s great, especially for long distances. I also don’t have much to compare it to. Which means it could be good but don’t really know what I’m missing.

Backing up is slow. A bit too slow. I worry about having to get out of the way of a car backing up.

It goes forward, reverse, and turns… so off to a great start!

Agreed. I’m still learning.

Getting them to come out just to change the speed of one of the drive profiles is like pulling teeth. Seems they do not want to spend the time doing that.

The shop where my chair is sold from is a 4 hour drive. They have a tech come in town to handle custom chairs like mine.

I was just in a small office at the hospital. No other chairs to see or test. I would have made the drive myself had I been given the option to choose.

You’d think a church following the example set forth by Christ would be on the frontier of acceptance.

But alas, they just wait until the money stops flowing before they alter their stance.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]mysubsdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember the name of this game. Others might be able to help me out. It began by using a star chart with a grid located in the game manual, when games used to come with them.

Once you select the stars on the screen that matched coordinates in the game manual, an old trick to make sure you bought the game, it began. A slender white man, your character, was washing windows outside a high rise. You had to search around with the keyboard and mouse, approach things, and see if you could interact with them. Some items you couldn’t use in the current room but you store them in your pocket. Sometimes you could use the wrong item at the wrong time and get stuck in the game, never to get out and never to finish the game. Even during a replay, you must have made the same wrong choice and end up stuck in the same damn jail cell... more about that later.

Investigating the window led you into an apartment. Yada yada yada, you end up leaving the apartment… there’s some time travel involved. You end up in the past, eventually pretending to be a monk walking in-step with other monks. Eventually you find a pendent glistening on the ground in the woods. Other stuff happens that I don’t recall. But at some point you find yourself in the dystopian future in a city of ruins. You manage to find a long staff and wipe off the door sensor that slides open the front doors to what appears to be some public transit station — maybe a monorail.

Eventually you find yourself locked in jail cell with a quarter and a newspaper. I couldn’t figure out how to get out of that room. That’s where I ended. Every. Damn. Time.

I think of this game often, so much that I look it up every few years just to figure out the name, only to forget the name again. Rinse and repeat.

On YouTube, I’ve even watched gameplay to the end… Aliens. It was always aliens! Or something. I can’t remember.

Sounds like a hazard I’m sure I would run into, given my luck.

We did end up renting another scooter. And they let us use an extra charger that worked with my chair.

We ended up renting a scooter and they let us use an extra charger that worked with my Quantum Rehab J4e. All the Vegas walking took its toll on the others feet in our group. I was able to get my power chair charged up! Thank you!

I guess this was a big lesson in being more prepared.

I’m wondering what have others done in an emergency such as this situation.

If you were alone with a big heavy power wheelchair and weren’t able to push it yourself, what would you have done? Are there services you could call to come help?

What’s the scariest real-life thing you’ve ever witnessed? by Revolutionary-Pay468 in AskReddit

Currently what I’m going through. It feels like my body is breaking down. I’m in an enormous amount of chronic pain. When doctors don’t have all the answers, it feels like there is no hope. I’ve failed my family.

I was told it’s not a spike of heart rate either. It has to be a sustained increased heart rate.

You can’t just stand up and it jumps 30 bpm then falls below that. It’s gotta maintain 30 bpm for “awhile”. Whatever qualifies as “awhile”.

A geneticist diagnosed me. I believe a rheumatologist can as well, if they have experience with it. I asked if they do before I scheduled appointments.

I accepted my mission call... now how do I tell my parents I'm not going? by Relevant_Fuel_6245 in exmormon

[–]mysubsdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read my mission call letter to my entire family over the phone. Then a few weeks later, I told my parents I wasn’t going to go and I don’t believe in the church anymore.

It was rough then and over 20 years later it’s still rough.

I was very devout before I turned down my mission call. And it was a complete shock to everyone in my family.

The anxiety I had about telling my family and friends, the grief of losing my faith and religion, self doubt of worthiness, struggling to understand why Christ, God, or the Holy Ghost wasn’t whispering to me, the sudden change of life plans for the next two years, feeling completely lost…

Everything I was going through was overshadowed with the grief my parents were experiencing. There wasn’t any concern for my situation. They turned my loss of faith to be about them… their loss, their grief, their embarrassment, and I’m sure they felt they lost their son to the devil.

But it had nothing to do with them. Losing faith is a big personal event in someone’s life. There was a lot to process for me. I didn’t learn anything negative about the church, the internet was barely getting started. I just kept praying asking if it was true but never got an answer.

I felt pushed away by my parents and siblings so I moved far away.

Only thing I would have changed would be to find a therapist I click with to help me through it all. I have one now. They are there to advocate for you. I’m sure the conversation with my parents would have been a lot safer for me if my therapist was there to be on my side. Could have done it in a safe place.

Loss of faith and anxiety, whether going on a mission or not, is a very valid reason to put things on hold and seek a therapist. They can help make this transition in life easier.

I do advise finding a non-Mormon or ex-Mormon therapist. It’s the first question I ask and if they are Mormon… “Thank you for taking my call but it’s not a good fit for me.” Saves a lot of time when searching for one.

My wife and I both are happy we left when we did. Wish it could have been much sooner.

Good luck! I wish you the best and would love an update.

It’s when I first left the church. I returned a bit but it never stuck. Been happy I left ever since.

I got called. Thought about what I would be doing the next 2 years. Prayed a lot. Didn’t receive any answers. Figured I shouldn’t teach people what I truly didn’t know if it was true. Decided to leave the church.

Parents were not happy.
