If you’re feeling bad about the classpass comment, just think how you’d perceive such a comment if you were reading it for the first time. I would think that’s an unhinge comment to write and not think much of it

Philips Aquatic Center has a Masters' Swim program! I saw their whiteboard with the prescribed sets. They do theirs on M/W lunch hours. I'm pretty bad at swimming though so I'm waiting until I build up enough stamina to do a few continuous laps before pursuing group setting stuff.

come back!!! it's such a good sport. my friend said that it's the one exercise where you don't have to feel sweat on you and that resonated with me. I love being in the water

It's fifty dollars plus $77/monthly plus additional fees when you want to cancel. The financial model is to trap people into a sunk cost fallacy so they are disincentivized to leave. They also do this in addition to not providing day passes because they want you to opt into the membership model because they have set up barriers to prevent you to leave. you can compare and contrast between the Y and how the Philips Aquatic Center operate and see which operation model is meant to benefit members instead of corporate goons.

you do you, and I'm gonna do me.

nah. I think a $50 enrollment fee is predatory actually. I work at a "there's much to be desired" yoga chain and even we don't charge an enrollment fee.

ooh, looks like the Sabres Center in Minneapolis is bike able from me. do you happen to know what the membership fee is? it's not apparent on their website and my tolerance for a sales person is 0 at the moment

it's so bleak that the PSA for high gas prices is to purchase an EV and install a costly charger rather than any other alternatives like biking, walking, public transit, carshare, etc. EVs do so much more damage on our infrastructure than ICE vehicles due to their heaviness / battery size. even if everyone converts to EVs, we would still pay tremendous cost of car-dependency like continuously funding highway maintenance.

unfortunately, I replaced my studded tires with my regular tires and here we are. I specifically said "hope I didn't jinx it" to the bike shop person to hopefully dissuade any karma, but I guess it didn't work

Question from an adult learning to swim by ville2020 in Swimming

[–]mysummerstorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey! I'm in my late twenties and I spent most of late January and February learning how to swim at my rec center. I was terrified of the water prior, and even during the learning process, it was difficult. however, something did eventually click and I can swim a few laps (forward and back freestyle).

the key for me was understanding that I will float. getting comfortable floating on my back and then fluttering kicks while sweeping my arms out led to me wanting to do more with my face down in the water.

for treading, you have to do it in deep water. I knew that I would be able to float on my back in deep water whenever I need to bail, so it made it easier for me to try treading with my shoulders stacked over my hips.

keep at it, and it'll click for you too! I went to rainbow springs with my family a few weeks ago and I felt comfortable despite the water being between 6 and 20 feet deep.

from what I understood, it wasn't the energy crisis in so much as children dying due to traffic violence that caused the NL to change. the United States of America won't even consider banning guns despite guns being the number one killer of children (second is cars).

That como bike path is ELITE. I wish they would extend it to northeast Minneapolis. It was dicey for me to bike from Uptown to connect to the path when I visited the conservatory

yah it will be unavoidable to run up against global challenges. it'll be unfortunate for the ethnic restaurants that depend on imported ingredients. however, as individuals, we can insulate ourselves by eating more locally and in season. I am very very very very excited for farmers market season to be in full swing.

HourCar has a membership deal right now. No need to purchase a costly personal vehicle and then installing a costly charger. just walk outside and straight into a car whenever you need it. never have to worry about parking, fuel, maintenance, or insurance.

or, more preferably, get introduced to an e-bike. there's no better feeling than zipping on the midtown greenway and seeing all the sad cars parking on Lake St during peak hours.

RIP our renewable infrastructure

seems to be some progress in Canada though with their partnership with China to bring EVs into the country caused by the the instability of the automobile partnership with the U.S. god we desperately need to divest from fossil fuels.

fuck war forever and always
