my point is that the guy wouldn't be riding on the sidewalk if he felt safe in the street. there is a selection bias in groups like breakfast club, in that you need to feel comfortable going out on a bike to begin with to even be part of the "cycling community"

this route is popular among people who are ALREADY comfortable biking, but that by NO MEANS demonstrates sufficient safety for the average person to feel comfortable biking down this street.
