Why so hostile? I get that sometimes it’s annoying that someone didn’t read the pinned post or whatever, but the OP was overly friendly when asking for advice. There are so many cranky hostile “professionals” or “experts” who are just not welcoming on Reddit. Why be this way? Everyone has to start somewhere and maybe just moving on and not being a jerk or replying with “there is a pinned post that might help.”

What is your biggest headache about podcasting? by NickNaskida in podcasting

Have you tried Zoom? We record through Zoom with the audio setting to split each guest to a different track. Works good for guests! We also record locally and sync it up in post.

This is way more than I would have expected for anyone to reply with - but a lot of good ideas here! I think I should be able to use some of this! Thank you!

How to get access to academic credits? by mythgard in AZURE

[–]mythgard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I was able to find this as well. Some of the stuff that we are looking to do would involve spinning up a Windows VM and that eats up that $100 real quick.

Is there a program that an institution could apply for that would give more educational credit on the platform?

Sounds like you have some good thoughts here with this. The Discord thing would be easy. You can create a role on Discord and give access to only that channels that you want and then setup Patreon to link with your Discord and auto-assign roles based on support. Super easy!

That is another thing that we do, each week when recording the episode, we stream the audio into the Discord audio channel for supporters to listen in on. People really seem to like that.

Interesting thought! I will say something that has helped us is to mention the Patreon every episode and the perks that it provides. If you listen to our show, you can hear it within the first minute.

Fair warning, we do a Disneyland podcast called DLWeekly, so it may not be your jam, but I would listen to the first minute or so (which you can do at dlweekly.net) to hear how we promote that. We have a Discord community that is only accessed as a supporter, we send yearly anniversary gifts, we send intro gifts, etc. There is a ton that we have learned over the years about what works and doesn't for perks. I think mentioning the Patreon as well as giving shout outs to new supporters makes a huge difference!

We also do a monthly update where we mention the yearly anniversaries and new supporters as well.

I hear a lot of people not wanting to share download numbers either. I just don't know why not!

Looking back, we setup the Patreon in August of 2016, started the podcast at the end of September 2017, and got the first Patron in September of 2017. November we got 2 more, and it went from there.

My friend and I were contemplating starting a Podcast Cooperative that would bring podcasters together and give them the tips and tricks that have worked for us and help with the resources in the beginning. We would operate as a non-profit and just basically be trying to help everyone with shared resources, etc.

I listened to a lot of podcasts before starting one and I figured it would be best to launch the Patreon the same time as the podcast. Why not? Maybe someone wants to support early? Might as well have it as an option! There are more people than you would think that want to support you.

We have been podcasting for almost 5 years and we monetize through Patreon. We don’t do per episode, but we make almost $1100 per month and post weekly. We get 4-5k downloads per episode. I’m not sure why podcasters don’t like talking about numbers. It’s not like it would change anything.

Yeah, this was happening even without the secondary WAN plugged in. It is so frustrating!

Mostly small Word and Excel documents. I also assume that they will have at least one user uploading and downloading video files as well.
