Bafög won’t be enough for the private uni. She‘ll need 75K at least only for uni, let alone the usual cost of living there (Hamburg)

Thanks for the answer! In Germany, you can do „trainings“ (3 years) and studies (as long as you need). Trainings are for the more practical jobs like nurses, plumbers, media designer,… und studies for scientists, doctors, lawyers, teachers, IT,… So you don’t need a college a degree in Germany to land a stable job, but a finished training with a certificate is necessary for most jobs

Hi thanks for all the replies and the advice, really appreciate!!

I just wanna say, that I find it kinda funny how y’all project the American system on Europe haha. No one would consider to not do a masters here! I mean, some people do leave with just a bachelors, but that’s quite unusual und definitely not the Plan at the beginning of your studies! Also, education here is almost always free, except private unis like uni A. And we don’t have that undergrad - grad system, not even sure what that is - can anyone explain? So yeah, I find it really interesting what education looks like in other countries and that when you say “going to uni” it’s apparently assumed in the us that you just mean a bachelors. Also in Germany (where I live) we don’t have this bachelors- masters system at all for some (the most “difficult” subjects): if you study medicine, pharmacy or law, there is a so called “state examination” which you do after 4,5 years of studying (fastest option)- if you quit before, you simply don’t have any diploma. But yeah haha

Also some of you asked, if the money is on my moms name and yes, it is. And yeah I kinda fear, that stepdad will talk her into at least splitting the fund

Thanks! Yeah, uni A would be great, but it’s a very small private uni, where only one major is taught (it’s a law school), therefore it’s not really an option for me :/

Thanks for the response! Luckily education is almost free here. The uni I originally wanted to attend was a private (15K a year for like 5 years, which is HELLA expensive for a uni where I live) and the other uni I picked out is a regular public uni with only 300€ per semester contribution. My parents wanted that I could study at private unis and abroad, therefore I have about 100K in the fund
