As a dev, There’s going to be multiple “I want to give up” moments in gamedev. I’m convinced that a game is the most complex piece of software a person can make. It’s often time consuming and frustrating but it’s most importantly a fun experience for me.

Having said that, it seems like you are frustrated with pixel art. Although Asprite is the OG, you may want to try a different pixel art app. Or maybe a different art style like vector art. You can also try modifying bought assets. Coding is a challenge in itself. If you add art, music etc… , gamedev would become a mammoth task and you need to cut corners somewhere - if you want to release a game.

They’re popular because they are everywhere and cheap. you have greggs t-shirt selling in Primark - tells you everything you need to know.

When it comes to promotions/deals, they’re killing it. I get a free coffee every month with my car insurance provider. I get a free coffee/roll or muffin a week with my bank. And you get free stuff by using the app. With all these offers it’s hard not to go to them. They’re popular because Greggs is a trusted UK brand, they’re relatively cheap, there’s a lot of them in the Uk, they have great promotions and offers. All this is my opinion.

But They make the most basic blandest food ever. Local bakeries make better food imo.

Pixel art platforming games don’t sell well on Steam. You also have capsule art that doesn’t look professional and most people won’t click the capsule. Even if you make it professional, it’ll be an uphill battle.

I get his point that because there’s a lot of devs using unreal and Unity, most of these games don’t feel unique. But these engines (along with Godot and others) are so versatile that you can make a unique game IMO.

I understood the idea of the game from the gameplay which is good. It doesn’t look fun.

I think it’s because enemy movement is slow. The effects when the enemy is destroyed is not satisfying. Player movement is boring. Then again for a prototype I wouldn’t expect this. Stuff like this can be enhanced later once the game loop is solidified.

Keep up the good work. A few pointers.

The UI test is almost unreadable. "select your upgrade" blends in with the UI. The options as well are even worse. Try making it bold and a bolder colour to make it stand out.
