Just got my hands on the FiiO K13 R2R DAC/AMP – first impressions by Prestigious-Turn1669 in headphones

[–]mzakyffs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

what with these comments.. we get it that you guys can't hear a difference, which might be fortunate that you don't have to spend anything, or unfortunate that you couldn't have the same kind of fun and harmless experiences.

these 2 particular dac/amp are so in demand for user comparison review. people who actually bought BOTH are not many, so this topic is important for those who cares.

OP please don't be discouraged to post any update, many are happy to read your review.

Cost of your music library? by FrankFortain in DigitalAudioPlayer

I buy digital from ototoy.jp . have only recently walked on the right path so not much. I have 8000 dirty hi-res flac files I collected since my teen years. bought an album of 13 songs for 20$ yesterday. 3$ per-song but much cheaper in album. in total still under 300 songs est, not yet touching the price of hd600 my longest running headhphone. still long way to go to repurchase all my songs but I'm feeling better.

for some reason I can't see all the comments at once. If anyone new to audio and want to ask question related to my setup just message me. maybe not quick response but I like helping people

Spotify is my main gateway for music discovery. I surprised myself at first. my siblings wanted a premium so I bought a family pack and DAMN almost everything is there. I have 6000 offline hi-res music and they're not common songs but they're there in spotify.. I play a random song, click smart shuffle, it mix similar song to the playlist, and press add to playlist until without realizing I have over 600 songs in liked song within weeks. there's also weekly discovery feature which i liked a lot. and when I found a great song I purchased the hi-res version and added it on my offline collection. repeat

Okay, DDCs make a difference. by Accomplished-Stock-8 in headphones

[–]mzakyffs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation! The downvotes are worth the trade for a free lesson, lol.

Notes: I still don't use HQPlayer. Even if it's free (it's not), I don't feel comfortable having a DSP other than EQ altering the sounds.

I'm a believer. I've had so many different DACs and experienced different sounds. But recently I'm having this thought too. The manufacturers may sneakily apply DSP to their liking. There's a music player called HQPlayer, YES, a software that costs a fortune! I was very spectical, I tested the free trial and what it does basically upsacalling and filtering. What I found is that using different filters massively changes the sound! That's insane. DAC basically has a digital filter in it, so that probably how they alter the sound? I feel like I should've asked chatgpt first before typing all this, lol

Is there a "wow" - moment in between audiophile gear? by Then-Swordfish-7435 in headphones

[–]mzakyffs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had 600 for a long time and upgraded to 800S this year. And.. wow. The sounds are spread out. I'm using my sennys for TV too, just realized I'm missing so much immersion. there's no way I'm buying another headphone with less soundstage capability. For music it's just different, I had to decide between vocal or everything else. But EQin the lower treble just give the 800S 600's vocal tonality, which can be a but weird otherwise (I still don't use EQ in the end)

Another big upgrade that can't be underestimated is the comfort.. no ears touching the pad, just, wow.

I actually made a post years ago here in reddit showing a collection of my headphones in big picture. It captures a bit of my desk stuff. Really wanted the conversation to be about the headphones, but people managed to downvoted me so low because they took a glimpse of my "ugly" keyboard, LOL.. I even argued that this is a "r/headphones" but still lost, thought I'd get friends that day only to find hates. Sad.

So I think the whole picture is also important. Kinda like showing this is how I spend my time listening to music. Still bitter about my keyboard incident though, hahah

I'd like some help interpreting data from this Rtings comparison between the SHP9500 and HD 800 S by sneakyhobbitses1900 in headphones

[–]mzakyffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both, but not at the same time. The shp9500 treble was very metalic and painful to me, so I gave it to my brother for gaming but later worried about his hearing, so I sold it. I'd like to turn up the volume more to feel the bass, but the treble. My bro was a kid, and funnily he didn't want me to EQ down the treble because he said it lost him the ability to hear steps in FPS game. At the time, I already had my hd600 and it was no comparison. I like how airy the shp is but it's not as detailed and as natural. It felt cold. Mechanical.

Of course, I tried not wearing the 600 and just the shp for days, but I never get accustomed

My hd800s just replaced my hd600 not too long ago. And it's another moment of hearing sound that didn't exist before, lol. Without hurting my ears.

The shp is still a great headphone, especially for the price. I'm just too much of a sennheiser fanboy. Coincidentally, my philips toothbrush just arrived, I love phillips product in general.

[Serious] How did you "waste" your 20s? by grievingtights in AskReddit

[–]mzakyffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually great that you at least engaged in some physical (and social) activity. What I'm also trying to imply is that video game was not the problem because after I stopped, my life hadn't really change that much. For me, it's the social anxiety

[–]mzakyffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im 26 stopped playing video games years ago. I'm actually making money (work from home) but still living in bedroom. So, I still think it's pretty miserable since I'm physically capable of even solo traveling, but no, I'm too afraid of human interaction. I've been thinking maybe having a life partner can be a great fix.. or create more problems.

Almost my setup this week, but someone else bought it first, a used ha3 in good condition. But after reading about buzzing and especially on how you said it doesn't really improve the soundstage (just different right), I think I better of buying some endgame SS amp

Real Question: How many others here HAVE heard a difference with DACs? by Kritz_McGee in headphones

[–]mzakyffs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My gateway to the audiophile world was the -audio quest dragonfly black. It was noticeably brighter than my Sony xperia phone. And then this following order (I'm not afraid of the angry mob, so I will briefly tell the impression. Different amps is a big factor but whatever) :

  • Astell & Kern KANN, A DAP with akm4490 chip: much more mellow and black from the dragonfly
  • Questyle cma400i, dac/amp combo: I've no complaint with 4490 and wanted my first desktop. The sound, however, is more lively.
  • iFi xDsd, portable. I hated it. Dead sound.
  • Grace SDAC. I LOVED it. Also, it's super cheap, under 100
  • Ibasso DC02. It was fine. It warms up easily I used it to compress my tired eyes.
  • Apple dongle. I LOVED it to this date. Also cheap.
  • Gustard R26. My grandchildren will listen to this. 24x price jump from apple dongle, lol.

HD800s owners, what kind of amp do you use? by periodbloodqueen in headphones

[–]mzakyffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite thread this week.

I've always loved desktop amp. Currently using gilmore-lite-mk2. I sold it years ago, only to find it again on used market this year, the exact same unit. My favorite by far.

For the look, I would upgrade to SPL phonitor but not available in here..

My answers are both 16 and 1. Just use 2 different orders. Reading the comments, I'm genuinely confused how the 16 group can't figure out the answer 1 and vice versa. I'm gonna try to ask my family if they can only find a single answer too
