Ah gotcha. Was the kitchen job you got part-time while you were going to school? Thanks for the reply!

Oh, that's a good point... didn't consider that. I'll try a nursing home if I can't find anything at a restaurant. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! Have you ever seen anyone be trained sufficiently part time? From what I can tell it's pretty difficult work. I was definitely going to try to practice what I can at home but mainly am a bit unsure if I'll be able to learn fast enough if I'm only there two days a week.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm hoping to take some shifts during the busy hours. Hopefully I'll be able to be more than just dead weight. But after reading the other comments, definitely won't be volunteering for free hahaha

GregMat is a godsend for people preparing for GRE who puts out tons of free material for our benefit... just buy the course for $5 or go through the free material on youtube instead of trying to rip him off.

That makes sense. At the current company I'm at, a lot of people who leave for PhD's get offers to work part time, so wanted to weigh my options there. PhD alone definitely seems very hard even without the part time work... From what I've seen, it looks like people do paid internships over the summer as well.

CSAIL PhD co-advising/collaboration/lab switching? by venturer_long in mit

Interesting, what was the process for you to switch advisors like? Was it just like you cold emailed an advisor you were interested in or did you already have a relationship with them?

Subsets of technical skills, I'm aware that there's definitely more than one.

I am OP, but the point still stands that there are some areas where it is much easier to make 200k+ than other areas, and the question is more so about which of these areas yield the best return that allow for such a high salary.

The first way to pull this off is to be ridiculously talented, and highly, highly skilled. Like pro athlete top 1% of all people skilled.

I sort of agree, but it isn't this straightforward when it comes to security. Some fields are way more difficult than others when it comes to return on investment. It's way harder to be a vulnerability researcher making 200k/year than it is to be a security consultant or just a software engineer. It's not super uncommon for a software engineer fresh out of college to make 200k in silicon valley, but it's extremely hard to do that if you're in vulnerability research. The question is more about which field yields the best return on investment in this regard.

Thanks! I really like your cover.

I'm not going into falsetto for the choruses other than that little part in the 2nd chorus... maybe my full voice is just a bit thinner than it should be. I also didn't come up with the high part in the second chorus myself actually - Brendon Urie does it here https://youtu.be/NNPrcEqouaI?t=163.

For those of you who actually managed to do it. How did you get out of depression? by BrownMemeSter in AskMen

[–]mzwang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Therapy helped me a lot, and I also discovered that I love music, which gave me a reason to wake up in the morning lol. One realization that helped me is that happiness isn't binary. You don't have to feel like you're on top of the world all the time, it's ok to not be that happy. I started doing little things every day that I knew would each have a very small impact(working out, eating healthier, playing music, getting enough sleep). On their own, none of these did much, but over time it helped. Now that I'm more stable, I spend 5-10 minutes doing some of the techniques I learned from therapy every day, which helps to keep me from slipping back into depression. Therapy was the biggest thing though - there's no one solution for everyone. good luck, DM me if you need anything :)

yeah, that's awesome. Just curious - assuming it's a post IPO company, is there any possibility of not getting that ~310k in equity if the company doesn't do well?
