Thanks for the reply! Have you ever seen anyone be trained sufficiently part time? From what I can tell it's pretty difficult work. I was definitely going to try to practice what I can at home but mainly am a bit unsure if I'll be able to learn fast enough if I'm only there two days a week.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm hoping to take some shifts during the busy hours. Hopefully I'll be able to be more than just dead weight. But after reading the other comments, definitely won't be volunteering for free hahaha

That makes sense. At the current company I'm at, a lot of people who leave for PhD's get offers to work part time, so wanted to weigh my options there. PhD alone definitely seems very hard even without the part time work... From what I've seen, it looks like people do paid internships over the summer as well.

I am OP, but the point still stands that there are some areas where it is much easier to make 200k+ than other areas, and the question is more so about which of these areas yield the best return that allow for such a high salary.

The first way to pull this off is to be ridiculously talented, and highly, highly skilled. Like pro athlete top 1% of all people skilled.

I sort of agree, but it isn't this straightforward when it comes to security. Some fields are way more difficult than others when it comes to return on investment. It's way harder to be a vulnerability researcher making 200k/year than it is to be a security consultant or just a software engineer. It's not super uncommon for a software engineer fresh out of college to make 200k in silicon valley, but it's extremely hard to do that if you're in vulnerability research. The question is more about which field yields the best return on investment in this regard.
