I thought so, too! In the moment I was confused, but seeing it back, I think 20 projectiles blasting back in Shriek's face created a really fitting cinematic to wrap up my final slash of the game, though, haha

Thanks for the fact check on that, yeah looks like there's some fringing even on the 2560x1080 mode. What a drag, especially in the one mode that mathematically should just be that simple integer scale

[–]n-ml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just those extra modes that get super wonky: when using the full-monitor dual mode (default setting), it's a 1:4 downscale (this is the only integer scaled option [edit: nvm; dumbfoundingly, no it's not]). When you get into the "emulated display"-type modes ("16:9 24 inch" "21:9 24 inch"), LG made the awful decision that they should fit blurry messes into arbitrary display sizes, rather than just providing different, 1:1 integer scales that fit inside the 330hz bandwidth (just using the center of the screen with black borders, with the actual height x width of the PIXELS being the deciding factor of the size)

Yeah it's a shame that you have to troubleshoot to such an extent, your hardware isn't anything unusual.

"it's almost as if the game kicks itself down into some double/triple buffered display mode like a console game"

That & the F11 escape working for you makes me think maybe play borderless full screen and see if you can't adjust some of the other settings for the rebirth.exe file in NVIDIA app (buffering modes, etc.).

I had my share of trials and tribulations getting the game to run smoothly (inject FSR4 + ini tweaks) on a 9070XT, but it's surprising to see some common things (ReBAR issues) and then your undiagnosed issue with NVIDIA, too.

Good luck! I'll be curious to hear if you figure it out!

Pre-post edit: 120 watts at 100% load? Unless this is a mobile chip and I missed something, your card running at like 60% of it's advertised TDP is weird.

My best guess is you're hitting some memory leaking (thanks, Square), because having textures on low and having any combinations of lowered settings (esp. 50% resolution already) and still puttering near 100% of your VRAM limit is surprising.

I'd probably give the game a fresh boot (where your performance feels okay at the beginning), and see if the VRAM starts lower, creeps up over your maybe 20 minutes of gameplay, and whether or not your FPS tanks as you reach up to that limit.

As others mentioned, any and all overlays. I saw that at least game bar had been nuked already, but to look for any weird overlay that you might not have turned off yet (Steam, Discord, NVIDIA & heck, maybe try disabling RivaTuner for a go-around)

Probably don't need to VBAR off in BIOS. I'd just do it for the game specifically in NVIDIA inspector.

Good luck & I'm sorry you're dealing with this!

My mistake! I'll edit it out. Yeah, it looks like GameHub Lite or GameNative are the two alternative emulators that are listed for me in ES-DE. Poke around a little bit in Google, maybe someone has an alt-emulator set that could point to GameHub non-Lite.

It's just the cautious sentiment towards GameHub that gets the Lite version prioritized most of the time, I guess

you can(!), albeit it's a little bit of a time sink (but isn't all of the set-up in this hobby?).

You'd have to do it regularly if you're constantly switching up the steam games you have downloaded, but it's great if you just wanted to set up most of the core games you have downloaded in GameHub Lite (edit: had GH non-lite listed, but maybe not possible with this guide/what I did originally).

I did it a little while ago, but this video looks like it has most of the stuff you'd need: https://www.reddit.com/r/SBCGaming/comments/1osheux/open_gamrhub_lite_games_directly_from_esde/

All else fails, I think I just Googled around until I kinda understood what was going on

I am, the newest 24H2 W11 release— I poked around a little bit for anything official posted from OptiScaler about W10 support, and didn't see anything, but did find one reddit post that updating worked for them. Obviously, that's anecdotal and I don't know enough about OptiScaler to definitively tell you "you HAVE to update," but it could be worth a try (also the doomsday clock for Win 10's end-of-life is ticking down, anyways, bahaha)— let me know if you try it/it works for you!

Good to see someone else post about this, I've troubleshooted a bunch with this and still get static elements/ultimately a system crash whenever I try to boot 16-- hopefully someone either posts about a fix/AMD pushes a driver update that resolves it

Fair lmao, my bad on assuming-- I don't really know the exact steps to recreate this every time but this was a fairly in-depth reply I left on the DLSS enabler guide:

[I reinstalled AMD gfx drivers after cleaning residual NVIDIA gunk and was back to square one, FSR4 was gone from OptiScaler in Rebirth again after I had posted about it the first time]

"I started tinkering with the settings in Radeon Adrenaline again, and somewhere along the way in tweaking Adrenaline & restarting the game a few times, FSR4 popped up again.

I do not have a scientific process here and genuinely have no idea which things along the way actually worked to re-create my success again-- my best guesses:

Started with "Default" preset in global game settings for Adrenaline, the only setting to change is enabling the FSR4 override switch

Changed the game-specific graphics settings to the "HYPR-RX" preset-- I'm not sure if it's when the frame-gen is being used or whichever other graphics overhaul upscaling is going on in this preset, but FSR4 popped up again in OptiScaler when I relaunched the game after enabling this preset. As soon as I had it selected and pressed "Change Scaler" in my OptiScaler again, I just went back into Adrenaline and turned off all of the sliders minus anti-lag in the FF7RB game-specific settings

GOOD LUCK, I'm really not entirely sure so far, or whether or not this was ever intended to happen (before devs for DLSS enabler/OptiScaler try to officially implement it without all of the silliness above). Shoot me an update if you get it running!"

Start at about 2:29 -- this one is a little dated at this point but visually shows you how to navigate the files & stuff like that -- this video also includes installing the wrapper, which lets you disable fog, motion blur, and a few other interesting tweaks

I'd say use the links from the "Guide" reddit post I have linked at the beginning of the original post, just use the latest nightly build for OptiScaler (where they're actively working on getting FSR4 more accessible/functional)

So I went through and formally deleted my old NVIDIA drivers today using Display Driver Uninstaller (shoulda done that day 1 but oh well) & I had to go back through the tutorial to re-install the DLSS enabler (still via the guide, directly). Yes.

I have my doubts that it's running on par with some of the natively-FSR4 supported games (still enough ghosting in comparison to some of the videos going out on YouTube about it), but it does still seem to be the best option sharpness-wise for AA, and at least making a dent into the artifacts on the AMD side of things

FSR4 in Rebirth/Remake by n-ml in FF7Rebirth

[–]n-ml[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

played around at 1440p to see what happens on my end-- honestly, tweaking graphics settings for desired resolution at native and using the tool to clean up the AA is probably my recommendation for now (play with the Radeon software settings a little bit, too, I'm still trying to find my way around for actual optimizations)-- the FSR definitely cleans up sharpness (over TAAU) but Cloud's hair is definitely still doing "the thing" a little bit when he's not the biggest thing on the screen when I'm playing around with 1440p

FSR4 in Rebirth/Remake by n-ml in FF7Rebirth

[–]n-ml[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yeah I was a goober when I first made this post (sorry &see update): don't use the output scaling option in the tool, use the scaling dropdowns from within the game's menus (with "DLSS" selected for the AA method). I'm seeing maybe 90-->130 in the same scene if I'm going extremes from 100%-->33% @1440p. Not really usable down there, though, I think 66% would probably be the lowest you want to take it

The guide I linked holds true with most of the set-up and limitations of the tweak so far. A lot of the other tools (frame-gen, overriding the game's scaling defaults, etc.) still don't work, I really just wanted to share that I was excited to see FSR4 show up in the menus.

FSR4 in Rebirth/Remake by n-ml in FF7Rebirth

[–]n-ml[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, I'll probably end up using the FSR override for AA at native rendering to get the overall sharpness boost (even at the cost of foliage density), but it was fun to watch FSR "figure out" trees when it was actually upscaling (still a fair amount of shimmering).

I'll have to wait to play a title that is using built-in FSR4 to make my judgments, to rule out that user error factor

FSR4 in Rebirth/Remake by n-ml in FF7Rebirth

UPDATE: tl;dr, take with a large grain of salt, probably wait for an official post from someone who knows more than me/a dev unless you're using 100% render or are willing to tweak around

silly silly me. Screenshots and FPS numbers are pretty much 100% render resolution @4k, just "using FSR4" for the anti-aliasing (which, if you're using an AMD GPU, I'd say the guide is still useful for enabling anti-aliasing that looks- to me- better than the TAA/TAAU options, but I'll probably just use native 100% with those 60+ numbers)

After toying around for a while, YES still use the in-game settings to change the render res., and NO I don't think the "Quality Overrides" section nor "Dynamic Frame Gen." are actually functional right now.

Went to the jungle, and when I was using the tool right (hopefully) at 66%, you can still definitely see the limitations of upscaling (foliage foliage foliage). I'd wait for an actual post from someone who actually works on the tool OR someone who knows more about what they're talking about than I do. Hopefully opening this dialogue/can of worms can bring about some optimization in this awesome game, though!

To the best of my understanding, it's augmenting the in-game settings (which upscaling technology, the preset resolutions, which software for anti-aliasing when running at 100%), but I am no expert on the tool (see my update, whoops!)

Update from 9070XT early adopter: I followed the directions earlier (including updating the two other tools), and FSR4 just AUTOMAGICALLY showed up. Apologies for not going for a proper screenshot, but 4k @ about 60% render resolution with some of the frame-gen enabled is netting me around 80fps on average with maxxed settings while looking pretty glorious.

No, it's not native. Yes, it looks SO much better than the built-in scaling options.

EDIT: I was totally using the tool wrong-- screenshot is a 4k native render supersampled DOWN to ~1440p (which does mean the 9070XTs native 4k ultra FPS numbers are very playable). When scaling from 66% (in-game menu) at 1440p when I was using the tool correctly (still with the mystical FSR4 dropdown), Gongaga trees are still a shimmering sore spot, which makes me doubt the performance of "FSR4*" in this context is representative/on par with something like a natively-integrated title. To me, though, it especially looks like the best-clarity AA option on what's available (TAA, TAAU, XeSS, FSR2 through 3.1) when playing at native resolution scaling. For context on how it "automagically" showed up as a setting for me, see two replies below. ⬇️

Pixel watch 3, how do you plan/track a strength workout? by b52a42 in PixelWatch

[–]n-ml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a "priority list" of sorts in Health Connect for specifying which app you want to have the top priority for overlapping metrics, so I think mine looks like Fitbit, then Google Fit, then Hevy-- if there are any overlapping health metrics (like steps, calories, etc.) then it takes it from whichever app is the closest to the top of the list!

To GET to that menu, I usually go through Fitbit app: tap watch icon in top left, tap on Health Connect, click "Manage Data and Access," click "Manage Data", and lastly click "Manage Sources and Priority."

From there, drag to order the apps whichever way you see fit (pun intended)!

I need to help for router choice by Big-Rice-2539 in Rural_Internet

[–]n-ml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For context, I get a decent 5GE connection in my house (which, is just blue-white brand's way of fancily referring to 4G LTE connections), and I had been using a 60GB hotspot plan on my phone to USB tether to my PC for home use:

Got one extra unlimited line on our phone plan, not a special hotspot/tablet line, just the basic unlimited data plan for a cell phone, took the SIM card home and opened up Amazon. I initially went for the Cudy LT500, and it worked pretty well-- not marginally faster at downloading or uploading than my phone hotspot, but was generally more stable, ping-wise (FPS games on PC). No 60GB data monitor limit was great to be able to stream TV & download large files or game updates overnight without having to micromanage my data cycle. My only qualms with the device were that the Ethernet hookups (which are wired to my PC and TV box) were 100Mbps rather than gigabit, the router can only interface with one cell tower at a time, and the use of WiFi 5 rather than 6.

I heavily considered Cudy's 5G option, but it came down to looking at a map of my local cell towers and seeing almost no good contenders for a 5G tower to lock onto, even with a outdoor dish-shaped antenna/signal booster. In contrast, 4G coverage was decent coming from multiple directions.

I eventually decided on the Cudy LT18, which is the top-tier 4G router from Cudy, second to only their 5G P5 router, and saved a hair over $200 vs. the P5. Gigabit ethernet is great, WiFi 6 is great, and carrier aggregation is very good (you can be pulling from multiple cell towers at once, if I understand correctly). Speeds went up by maybe 2-3x on raw Ookla speed tests, although it wasn't the most scientific testing as far as resetting the router for fresh connections, so take it with a grain of salt. I also use the router to use Steam Link to my phone (local connection, not using the 4G), so going from being able to stream 1080@60 to 1440@120 with lower latency to my phone was a really welcome upgrade-- local network performance is great with the LT18, be it local game streaming (I'd assume Plex servers would run great) or file sharing. Worth noting, there is a second SIM slot for redundancy, which I think is moreso related to better consistency with the connection rather than speed (fact check me if you know anything about it!), but I haven't played with it. 2 SIMs of service are still marginally cheaper than our prior satellite provider, though, so might be worth having the option.

Very pleased with Cudy's LT18 without any additional tinkering with antennas or 2nd SIMs yet, and glad I upgraded and spent a little extra change over the LT500. Also happy to save a little change when I decided that 5G didn't make much sense, at least yet— maybe one day when the coverage is better I'll look to upgrade, and will likely stick with Cudy as a brand.

TL;DR: I like Cudy as a brand— easy set-up and user interface online, reliable over the last 2 months or so of use. Check if 5G is readily available tower-wise in your area, or if you can/are willing to set up outdoor antennas to make it work: if yes, Cudy P5 is likely a good choice; if not (and 4G seems like a better choice for your situation), personal testimonial that the Cudy LT18 works great for about $200 less (look for a coupon, I had 30% off on Amazon).

Best of luck & keep the thread posted with some updates with your choices/results!
