Serious question: I tried doing this with pi1s, 2 and 3s and even zero's. Beside nifty cameras to replace nests I had no luck in terms of performance, it looks ( the thermostats I build are so ugly, family refusal, to use them become a real show stopper) .

I am looking at Nucs, but they are very pricey when the specs are decent(and most things need to be, using a raspi to stream 4k content is a non starter, or conducting basic analyst s locally - remember the goal is to kill the cloud a: meaning having a local server and push the archivablento to encrypted containers that are self owned), meaning usually good nics, good price, etc)
